Thursday Milan Musings

By: Gianfranco | April 24th, 2008

Going away to a team deep in the relegation battle is never an easy prospect. I would consider this game very much a carbon copy of last week, except this time it is away from home which has proved to be a bit more friendly to the Rossoneri than we have come to expect. Regardless of where or when, this is again a must win for Milan as they continue to climb the ladder to the top four.

It is imperative that Milan and specifically Carletto feed off last weeks win and continue to play the xmas tree with Pippo as the star. With this fixture away from home I wouldn’t mind seeing Gila getting a fair shake, especially if Pato continues to battle the world’s most mysterious muscular injury. Ambro and Bonera are both back from suspension and I would not be all that upset to see them both back in the lineup. It is easy to forget that before the red card Bonera was playing at a very high level, and I am curious to see if he can rekindle that form. The rest of the lineup is pretty straightforward with very limited discussion on Maldini’s injury from next week. It is beginning to look more and more like he may return next year, and if in fact he does, shutting him down for this campaign to come back strong next year is not a bad idea.

MUSINGS…

-The Dinho debacle continues hot and heavy with the Milan camp here at the offside as well at San Siro seem to be torn. It is no secret that I am not in favor of the move, and it appears I have some big backing in the form of Little Berlusconi who also believes that the money can be better spent. The math is simple, 1 unneeded attacking midfielder = 1 GK, 1 FB, and 1 Striker (potentially), it’s a no-brainer, no?

-Cafu is looking to continue at Milan because he feels young and ready to roll. Cafu, your service has been appreciated and in fact it has been necessary at times. But alas all good things come to an end at your time at Milan is no different. Cafu there are days where I feel extremely good, but you don’t see me doing things that are really that feasible. It reminds of the guy who drinks 10 beers and says “Hey I am not all that drunk” and decides to drive home, not very bright. Last time I checked Fenerbache was also accepting applications for has-been Brazilians, heck they can have Emerson for free.

-I want to take a minute here to talk about Champions League, and as I Milan fan my desire final. For me it has to be Chelsea vs. Barca. For obvious reason L’Pool does not hold a special place in my heart and watching Riise unable to make a right footed clearance and score the pretties own goal I have ever seen was pure class. With that being said Chelsea has earned my respect over the years, despite their new manager being and idiotic moron. I also dislike ManU because quite frankly I am jealous of their depth, and they remind me of past Milan teams, and I would prefer the comparisons to stop here and Barca to advance. Could you imagine the fallout if former Milan man Frankie Rijkaard can win the CL trophy, or at least make the final, sans Ronaldinho. It takes balls to bench a former world player of the year, and it takes even more balls to succeed without him.

Couldn’t watch the Milan game. Had to content myself with the game in Florence and what a match it was for a Milan fan.

lol…the last 20 minutes was hope, frustration, dejection and elation, in that order.

    NON TI LACEREMO MAIIIIIII!!!!!

i couldnt watch the game today, just caught the goals and the summary of the game.

1-PIPPOOOOO MIOOOOO lives and will score forever. 9 goals in 12 games!!! Gila has only 7 in 25!!!!!!! 2 more goals away from #100 serie a goal….VS. INTER!

2-never stop believing *NON TI LACEREMO MAI* its still gonna be tough, only 3 games left and we have Inter. but we also have the Milan faith & heart which is stronger than anything. Viola has Cagliari, Parma & Torino

    3-oh, did i mention……SUUUPER PIPPOOOOOO MIIIIOOOOOOOO!!

HELLL YESS. THIS IS MY MILAN! ALE PIPPO MIO ALE ALE! 8 goals in 4 matches is disgusting!!

Like Fetyani, I couldn’t watch the match, but my heart is going crazy! I never stopped believing in our team, even through the hard times and crazy transfer rumors. 2 point gap. We lead on goal differential. We can do this. We WILL do this. Let’s take this faith, this energy, this determination…to go destroy Inter next week!

    Ti Amo Rossoneri per sempre!

Okay, so in Serie A, if two teams are duking it out for a European spot, and are tied in points, the first thing they go to is head-to-head encounters (which we own. Drew with the Viola the first time, and won the second match). Since we kind of completely own in goal differential…2 points. It’s gonna be tough. But we will do this.

*Realizes that everyone else here probably came to this conclusion a long while ago.* Haha ;)

Thank you Wikipedia for yet again being the best resource ever.

shout out for bonera. a faultless performance and an assist for inzaghi’s 2nd goal.

as you have read in the above comments regading pipo’s goal records, he is never written off and as sharp as ever

not even all season, just one would be sufficient to be in the CL. im now regretting every game we lost or tied, we could have been there easily!! its so frustrating because they’re nothing that can be done, but hope and believe, and thats what we’re doing.

fetyani, how could kalac be at fault for livorno’s goal?

it was hit from the penalty spot, theres not way he couldve come out to get it!

it was bonera’s fault, but the guy who scored just took advantage of the switch with nesta.

and plus, it was 1 shot 1 goal the whole game for those guys.

Hana, yea I actually ran into that Serie A wikipedia site a few days ago.. Very very neat.. They also have a wikipedia article for certain teams for this season, but no one’s done anything for Milan.. :(

For stats and stuff, I used to go to soccernet.com, but now I go to skysports.com ..

Heck yes, amazing! Like many others I missed the game, but I´m super happy that we won, and SuperPippo was our hero again! And crazy happy that Oddo made it back way earlier than expected.

Ok, so, the derby deciding the scudetto? No matter what any of the coaches or players say, this is going to mean the world to both teams!

Starting line-up against Inter should be as follows (imo):

Kalac; Maldini, Nesta, Kaladze, Bonera; Gattuso, Pirlo, Ambro; Seedorf, Kaka; Pippo

then bring on Oddo for Maldini (Kala goes to left, Bonera center), and Pato comes on around the 60th minute depending on the score..

Khaladze should play on the left instead, he’s been shaky all season, or our full backs should play more defensive, and less attacking.

Is Maldini going to be fit for the derby, any news on his injury?

with our recent results, pipo’s form and our new found momentum inter better get ready for a whooping this time and does anybody even wonder why pato never starts up front with inzaghi i think it would be wonderful considering the fact that they both are scoring regularly unlike gilardino who i believe should be loaned to the viola next season.
