Tons of Action
By: Gianfranco | May 31st, 2008Pretty crazy twenty-four hours on the transfer market and I want to try and recap a bit of it and speculate a bunch more.
*Borriello has officially made his move to Milan so Fester can cross the first striker off his shopping list. This move comes with both praise and negativity depending on the ability of Borriello to succeed at the San Siro. Looking at it from a different light, Genoa would not have been able to pay a high tag on Marco so Milan taking him back was a bargain. Even if they decide to ship him out the profit would be more than anything Genoa could have paid, I hope he stays and thrives because I am sucker for an Italian succeeding at Milan.
*Following Marco into the doors of the San Siro is WC winning wingback Gianluca Zambrotta.
The price was right and I am happy to welcome this guy to the squad. Just image for a second Zambro, Paolo, Nesta, and Oddo, it is music to my ears. With Kaldadze, Bonera, and Janks in the wings you have to believe that defensive issues are not as bad as we have made them out to be as long as everyone is healthy. Depth is key here and adding another player would not be frowned upon. There is a fair amount of talk that Fester has more defenders on his radar with the likes of Maggio, Zapata, Dossena and even Domizzi on his list. Though none of these players seem to be showing the hot and heavy interest for Milan that we all like to see all of them have been shopped around and all of them have a price. For me Maggio would be a great swoop, but anyone on that list is a huge plus in youth or versatility.
*A return to Milan is also in the works for netminder Abbiati. I am all for this move as Abbiati has proved time and time again that he is the real deal.
I like the guy both as a player and a person as his cockiness is refreshing to see in a GK. I mean for a guy to say that he would rather stay home than go to EURO 08 as the #3 keeper is a pretty gutsy, but he says he is better than Amelia, and it is time for him to prove it. The other positive of Abbiati is he has played in big matches in Serie A and CL and his upbringing in the Milan system make him a strong teammate for the rest of the squad. Now if they could just get Dida off the books they could shop around for a much younger goalie to have waiting in the wings for the future.
*Apparently Carletto had a meeting with Roman Abramovich to discuss tactics at Chelsea, and possibly the return of Sheva!? During the meeting Roman did little discuss but a lot of hitting on Carletto to come to Chelsea. When the meeting was over Roman cried up and down the block how much he loved Carletto and how good a fit to what he was looking for as the leader of Chelsea. To make matters even more intriguing he offered Carletto a large transfer purse along with a fair amount of compensation to Milan for his services. As of now Carletto has stated that he was flattered and Fester has further stated that Carlettto will go nowhere but can you image the windfall from a move like this!
Milan would be coach-less and with Jose all but wrapped up at Inter, it leaves only a few unemployed coaches on the shortlist. We discussed this a few posts ago but with Carletto ending up at the National team, but if he goes to Chelsea a few players may want to go with him. For the moment I don’t even want to think about but this transfer just seems to get more and more crazy everyday. Could Mourinho’s unveiling be held up because he wants Rossonero instead of Nerazzuro, and he is waiting on Carletto’s next move?
*Moratti may pull the trigger on Eto in the next few days taking him off Milan’s striker list but this also means that Moratti will get his ass out of the striker market leaving Milan without the worry of their bastard cousin stealing away another striker. Without Eto on the list Drogba and Adebayor become a lot more attractive with Drogba likely to be the most attainable target. A few weeks ago it looked like a move was imminent but with the Mourinho debacle unsolved, and Chelsea in a state of flux it looks like this cliff hanger is yet to come close to an end.

Rossi was mostly solid but with the likes of Pagliuca, Peruzzi and later Buffon in the mix, there was not a hope in the world of him getting into the Italy squad.

guys, abbiati had a shit load of mistakes last season with athletico.
off the top of my head, there was one massive mistake, earlier in the season vs. barcelona. athletico had the edge the whole first half but abbiati drops a simple cross at the feet of a barcelona player who taps it into an unguarded net. the whole game changes, and barca win the game.
abbiati has some quality, but its not milan quality. we need a greater gk than him.

not in favour of either ibra or adriano - ibra too many attitude issues - can you imnagine him fitting into the atmosphere at milan? there would be ego issues all over -and adriano, well - i dont see him too committed to getting back in shape and stopping his incessant partying.
i am not in favour of spending big on 1 striker, would rather we picked up a couple of good solid and relatively inexpensive talents - gomez, gomis, huntelaar, van persie….Posted from

Since leaving Milan and then Juve Abbiati has not been blessed with the best of defensives, Torino and Atletico, so if you look at the amount shots he has faced his numbers are fairly strong. GK’s make mistakes its part of the territory, heck even Petr Cech has made some in the past and he is number two in the world. The bottom line with Abbiati is he is an economical improvement, who is tested, played at Milan, and has proved that he is capable of great things. Can’t really see what else he needs to do to make himself attractive?

Sam i am with you on Ibra and Adri, I could plainly go without. But I would like to see a bigger name than those you have mentioned make their way to the San Siro, even if it is only Sheva.

only if sheva come free, i love him but in the end, we should not pay money for a traitor

My choice of strikers are as follows:
1) Benzema
2) Gomez
3) Drogba
4) Sheva
5) Eto’oBenzema is 20, Gomez is 22.. Both are currently on fire, and definetly have futures ahead of them..

Van Persie is injury-prone..
Huntelaar would be amazing..
Btw, Galliani said that Emerson and Brocchi aren’t leaving, but if they will, then he’s gonna get replacements.. I really hope they both leave and we get a good average-aged center midfielder..

moka - get why u have Benzema at the top of the list.
Def the “battering ram” we could have infront of Kaka and Ducky but for everything ive read, seen or heard im sure that he is committed to one more season at Lyon.
I say that we do what Milan used to do, wait for a competition to start and skim of the players who rose to the top.
Watched Robben today against the Welsh squad (okay, so they arent a good barmeter) but he was terrorizing the defence.
Ribery to, i expect to have a good comp, hopefully enough for our management to take note.
Lets keep our eyes peeled for a Ramos wannabe to pop up during the comp as well as one or two more def mids to poach over the summer.

Benzema is not leaving Lyon and if Lyon meets his ambitions of buying players and strengthing he will have all the more reason to stay. Benzema reminds me a lot of ADP and there was also talk of Alex leaving the Old Lady but with time he cememnted his legacy as one of Juves best and I would expect Benzema to do the same at Lyon.
Gomez would be a very good acquistion but almost 100% unlikely as his name has not been linked to Milan. However if he lights it up at Euro 08 he will quickly be on everyones radar. Van Persie is not worth the headache, and Robben is like a piece of glass. But Huntelaar now that could be some good stuff.

French reports are saying Milan are willing to spend 15 million for Bafetimbi Gomis of St. Etienne.
Benzema is really gonna be hard to lure him, not only he may stay at Lyon but other clubs will pay big bucks for him. as i was saying before, Gomez would be perfect followed by Eto’o or Drogba.
Mediaset reported that Maldini might retire because of financial issues with Milan. yaaaah suuuure, i say complete bullshit. its like saying Milan dont have money to pay for Milan(Maldini). and if so, Berlu and many from the board will pay out of their pockets, and even before them the fans would chip in.

i’d love to have benzema, and as the results show adri is more favored than the skinny swede!

I doubt we’ll get Benzema, but hey, he was on the list of 6 strikers, so you never know.. Still a possiblitiy..
I don’t think he will stay in Lyon; he’ll probably end up in Barca, Madrid or Man Utd..

Apparently Ancelotti asked for Eto’o.
Galliani: “He would like Eto’o, and we told him that we shall sign Eto’o if the amount of the operation will be compatible with our balances.”

@gian & sam : FYI, Adriano is already doing the ‘getting back in shape’ effort in Sao Paulo… he’s scored important goals for them this season during his loan period.

oh, and he was called back into the Brazil national squad lately.

Gomez is technically very deficient. It is an indication of the talent in German football nowadays that he even gets a game for the NT.
Gone are the days of German teams being monstrously solid in every position with the likes of Klinsmann and Voller upfront.

A it is funny you say that as even watching Germany in the last two friendlies, the idea of “engineered to win” is lost with blunders on the wings and on the defense. I will however say that they are a talented squad, but in a sense of raw talent, their true star is Ballack but alone he cant carry the squad. They truly need to replicate the performance in 06 if they want to have success. Gomez like his teammates is young, and intriguing and yes he does lack polish, but with greater competitions sometimes comes better skills and maybe Milan or another can help bring that out…

Simic for Behramni? plus money or loan youngesters, co-ownership…

GF, I think their midfield is strong but upfront they lack true quality. Klose is good but he ain’t no Klinsman, Podolski has pace but he’s out of form and frankly, Kiranyi and Gomez would not make it into any of the other top NTs in the competition.
I’ve seen Gomez a few times for Stuttgart in the CL and for Germany and he’s technical ability leaves a lot to be desired. If you want to have Gomez at Milan we might as well have kept Gilardino.

abbiati was dropped from our starting eleven because of a loss of form and the resurgence of dida.
aka, he is a lesser of a gk than dida, and he always has been.
its time for an upgrade of goalkeepers, not a downgrade, exactly what abbiati is.

K guys.. Financial situation:
IN:
Zambrotta; 8.5 mil
Borriello; 10 mil + De GennaroOUT:
Oliviera; 10 mil
Gila; 14 mil.. which means so far Milan have made 5.5 mil profit..

Sorry for being pessimistic guys but it’s not the first time that Galliani has verbal diarrhea-ized and claims that he wants ‘big names’ coming to Milan. So far we’ve got Boriello whom I really, really damn hope not going to be another Gilardino; we’ve got Zambrotta, a great wing back but on the other side of 30 (somehow, it’s been Milan’s policy to hire such experienced ‘youngsters’ these days…); we’ve got Flamini who’s good at being an understudy; and…??? And we’ve sold Gilardino - good riddance but.. - to Fiorentina, making a deadly strike force with Mutu. We’ve loaned out Gourcouff, whom I thought terribly lacked the chance to play regularly; and loaned out Paloschi.
