Thursday Milan Musings, Back to Business
By: Gianfranco | June 26th, 2008Much to no oneās surprise the Don got the ax today. Contractually speaking he was not fired, he failed to fulfill his contractual obligation to the FIGC, which was to take Italy to the semifinals. Seeing that I spend my whole day arguing and negotiating contracts, I canāt help to think I could have gotten the Don a better deal. Than again with the way that team was playing, and the way the media lambasted him from day one to today, there may have been little anything could have done.
The Don though left the same way he coached, and that was with class. He refused the FIGCās contract buyout and left his post quite politely and without the cash. I wish him the best of luck and as a Milan fan I know I have not seen the last of the Don and would certainly entertain the notion of having him roam the Rossoneri sidelines. Into the post returns Marcello Lippi, who I will refrain from commenting about until I get better idea of what direction he takes this team, out with the old, in with the new I hopeā¦

The Don left us with this, āI am sorry that PK has decided this situation, over these last two years my Italy did something positive, and one last game canāt erase that.ā
I will wrap up Euro on Sunday but now we need to get back to what really matters, and that is AC Milan.
-My first order of business is to make sense of the Adebayor deal. I am in favor of Adebayor moving to the San Siro, and here is why. In the xmas tree formation Adebayor would be on the tip top receiving service from the likes of Kaka, Seedorf, and Pirlo. He can also play along side the likes of Borriello, Pato, or Pippo depending on the circumstances. The key here with Adebayor is his versatility, size, and pace, three things that make a whole lot of sense in Serie A. The one thing that is frustrating me is the price, but with the media pestering Fester, you can see why he is willing to break the bank for a striker. I wish Wenger would accept ownership of Gourcuff and knock ten mil of the price tag, but who knows. The next few days should iron out this deal, with Adebayor leaning 80% towards Milan.
-The next thing I want to discuss is the potential of Bastian Schweinstieger, and so I donāt have to type that again, we will call him Schweiny. Something bothers about this guy, and I canāt figure out what it is, but when I get past this I do realize that he is a great player. The likely hood of him coming to Milan is probably slim to none, and the likelihood of him leaving Bayern for less than 20mil is even more unlikely. Also, as I have mentioned in the past with Klinnsman taking over that squad the only people I can forsee leaving are non-Germans. So Podolski, Shweiny, and Lahm are staying with their old coach.
-Arshavin is another highly unlikely transfer, and not because of price as someone graciously pointed but because of his desire to play in Spain, specifically at Barcelona. Barcelona would probably love to have him while they rebuild the club, and I canāt help but think how well he would fit at Milan alongside Kaka, but a may as well forget it before I get to much into it.
-I had a great discussion a few nights ago with Adam about GKās, and Milanās inability to add anyone further than Abbiatti. I donāt mind handing the reins over to Abbiatti or even Kalac as long as both are in form as Kalac was at the end of the season. Someone else brought up a very valid point that I didnāt even consider, and that was that with Milan in the UEFA Cup it was a great time to get a young GK a ton of play in Jr. Euro nights of UEFA play. But GKās can play for awhile and young GKās can be had, it is just a scary position to make a big investment in, see Nelson Dida.
-The last thing I want to discuss is the defense and the potential plans of the Rossoneri going forward this season. There has been very little done on the defensive front other than Zambrotta, but it seems Milan is willing to work and inject some youth into the defense with the likes of Darmian and some of the other youngsters who are potentially being registered in the coming weeks leading up to summer training. I will try to keep tabs on these as the offseason wears on.
A while back I asked if anyone wanted to pick a topic and write about it, and then I would post it. The offer is still out their and I would be happy to be get you all involved. I have a post ready regarding the Legacy of Arrigo Sacchi, but anything along the lines is great. For example, who is the best foreigner to wear Red and Black, who is Milanās best GK ever, and so on. Let me know if anyone wants to get involved.

Gianfranco, I’ve not seen that Tifosi film. But I looked up some info about it and to my surprised learned that they shot the film in my very own backyard! The film was shot in Emilia-Romagna, where I and most of my family hail from. Small world I suppose!

Another fun fact you guys might like: Carletto’s first job as a manager was actually for my hometown club, AC Reggiana. That Roma game in ‘93 that I was referring to was against Reggiana. I don’t think Ancelotti was the manager at that time, but still a pleasant coincedent!

Yeaa I agree with GF.. Competition is nice and I hope Udinese keep Di Natale and Quagliarella.. and Sampdoria keep Cassano.. If that’s the case then it should be very interesting next year..

i actually have reasons for stating Napoli. They already the two best youngsters in Italy santacroce and Hamsik. add to that lavezzi. the best scouting system IMO. And plus napoli produces the best no of young talents. the likes of cannavaro are from napoli. This generation has criscito. If the club is on the rise, i am 100% sure the neapolitans would prefer to play for napoli. maybe we would also see quagliarella make a move back to napoli. they have got things going for them for sure.

just imagine a santacroce-criscito defence. it could possible be the future of italy.

Okay, I like Clarence a lot. He’s very intelligent, huge creative force for the team when he’s on, and an overall cool guy. Except when he throws hissy-fits. Like he is right now.
Seedorf threatens Premier switch
“I’d always love to come and play in the Premier League, but things just don’t happen like that,ā Seedorf told BBC Radio.
“I’ve never touched the Premier League yet, but let’s say you never know. Opportunities come and go, when I was close to coming to England with Manchester United or Arsenal when I was at Sampdoria I went to Real Madrid.
“You cannot be everywhere, I’ve been playing in Spain and Italy. For now I’m in Italy and I’m always following with a very special eye the movements in the Premier League because at the moment it’s an example for everybody.”
Seedorf is at a crossroads for his career and already caused shockwaves when he pulled out of Hollandās Euro 2008 squad following disagreements with tactician Marco Van Basten.
It is certainly not a gamble to suggest the Dutchman could demand a transfer rather than play out of position to accommodate Ronaldinho.
Is anyone else mildly annoyed at his….shall we say, inflexibility? I remember he was complaining for exactly the same reason back in the *cough* short lived glory days of Ka-Pa-Ro, during the match against Napoli, since that forced him back as well. All of that complaining lead to what? A goal and a pretty great performance by Seedorf. He can obviously play well in this deeper role as well as a trequarista.
And Carlo agrees: āSeedorf is an intelligent man and a very useful player,ā noted Ancelotti. āHe can play as a Trequartista and a pure midfielder. There are no problems.ā
I understand being upset that you can’t played your preferred position, but really. We’re not asking him to become our keeper or anything, and he knows he’s probably going to be a starter.
Of course, for him to actually have something to complain about, we actually need to sign another forward. And who the hell knows what’s going to happen in that department.
Sigh.

Adebayor said; if you want me to play like Henry, pay me like Henry..
wow.. so he’s getting 30k, and he’s demanding 120k.. hmm.. what does that say about his personality, if we’re gonna talk about personalities?
in other news, dinho scores a brace and 2 assists in a charity match, that ended 7-7..

GF: Don’ t waste your carpal tunnel syndrome on Dhaw. Dhaw hasn’t figured out yet that it’s not just the Milan supporters that are committing the unholy sin of “not supporting HIS club”. This here scintillating IQ 1.) believes like THEY all do that evrybody should root for Roma… just cuz… and 2.) thinks that Milan and apparently Inter can’t criticize Roma because… er… we haven’t done much in the last two years? That can’t be right… Didn’t Milan win the CL about one calendar year ago? And didn’t Inter win the Scudetto two years running at least? …anyway thats what he said, you figure it out…
“Was just wandering around and happened to get to Milan Offside and boy oh boy those fellaās out there are waiting to see Roma falter and have their own theories.
They see the likes of Napoli and Udinese and Fiorentina overtaking us and blah blah blah.
Seriously , Fuktards need to give a look at themselves and what they have achieved in the last 2 years or so.”
āPeople who live in glass houses should not throw stonesāI am pretty sure that last quote doesn’t apply in any way shape or form to his argument… doesn’t he get that?

Wow, MAD, your a fiery guy huh? I can see where Inter has quite a rivalry with Roma, but this is more than I could have imagined. They really arent that good at making friends though.

Inter’s rivalry with Roma will disappear in 3-4 years.
I think Gianfranco’s right about Roma. They’ve been lucky with Aquilani/De Rossi, but they don’t have a sustainable model for real victory under the Sensis. It doesn’t seem like they have any chance of rising up, but certainly could go down.

jeez milan and inter only won the UCL and scudetto respectively. Pale in comparision to the coppa Italia that Roma has won.*sigh*

i was not impressed with Ade’s recent wrong doings. The guy prefers Barca anyway. I want the maestro r10 in milan. TMW had the video of the friendly. The magic is still there
. I just hope he concentrates on doing well in Milan . With the right focus he can win another Ballon d’or which i strongly beleive he has the potential forPosted from

Alessio, can I venture to geuss why the rivalry will disappear?
Is it because one of those teams will fade…
Be careful on reinforcing my opinion, you may anger the Roman mob…

GF: It makes me laugh to hear the supporters of a club that has really accomplished… not much, blow their own horn so much… and yes, the word blow was used on purpose.
The truth is that teams like Inter, Milan and Juventus have a very large advantage over teams like Roma and the other mid-tier teams.
The advantage is that we don’t NEED to have a big year, or make a big sale to make those improvements that are always necessary due to form, personal dislike or injury.
They do. It’s not a crime, and it’s not (and I sure there will be some disagreement here) because one group is soulless and money conscience and the other is “pure”. It’s how to keep your business interests afloat and succeed in an unfair world. Some people get that and don’t make it TOO personal. Some don’t and become the crazed whack-a-doos we know as…
All that being said, there are so many insults, so many irrational unsubstantiated slanders a body can take…
before…
Sarcasm rears its ugly, damning, cruel, but funny head.

MAD, your are correct, it does have to do clearly with the amount of funds available and how, and as you said there is nothing wrong that, Juve, Milan and Inter’s owners are filthy rich and look to spend the money on the club, because they realize how much profit can be made with a very succesful club. Unlike EPL clubs, the Serie A big boys operate with far less depth, and it has to do with the fact that they won a lot silverware over the years which pads the checkbook.

gianfranco i think you can scratch this quote now,
āI was born in Togo so I never cared about playing for money, my happiness was to play to enjoy myself. Thatās what Iāve been doing until now.
he said, āEither Arsenal give me what I want and I stay or they donāt and I leave.ā
and he also basically said as in goal.com headline, pay me like henry and ill play like henry.

Fetyani, I actually watched Adebayor’s press conference today in the Fox Soccer Report, and he is a very tough guy to read. He in fact even stated that he loves Arsenal and the youth of the club, but that he enjoys being courted by the “big” clubs. The more I read, and the more I listen and gleen, the harder it becomes to separate a players wishes, desires, and motiviations from agent desires and alterior motives. I even think about it with Dinho, he may really really really want to play for Milan, which for me is a huge plus, because that desire is fantastic, but the money issue may hold him back and portray him as greedy. But Adebayor in that spot and one would have to consider the same factors, how much of it is him, and how much of it his entourage? Paying him like Henry is a ridculous prospect, Henry is a World and Euro champion and in that regard Adebayor is nothing.

with Dinho we already have an agreement with him, the only problem is Barcelona. Milan are offering 15 million, and Barca wants 30 million. 25 mil could probably do it. same thing with Adebayor, but Arsenal want 40 million.
for some reason i believe that Dinho will bring the magic back with Kaka & Pato.
