Put the Money Where Your Fingers Are!
By: Gianfranco | June 10th, 2009So that day has finally arrived, Kaka, Milan’s crown jewel has moved to Madrid. Still flip flopping on my emotions as to what I personally believe and feel, and as I get those on paper I will post. However, to lighten the mood a bit how about we all put our money where our mouths and fingers are as I ask you to go ahead and put yourself in Fester’s big old Italian leather loafers and tell me what you do with 50M. Remember that extra cash (10M) is probably going to be spent on Berlu’s hair dye, fake tan, hookers, and if any is left over blow…
My 50M dollar moves:
Adebayor(25-30M)- What happens when little Jimmy down the street comes down to your house with a wallet full of cash? Hopefully you take him to the cleaners and sell your collections to him when he is prime to spend right? So Arsenal, in fact any team doing business with Milan, will probably do the same. The first transfer is going to be costly, because the cash is burning a hole in our pocket so you have to pay a little extra here. Some of you don’t like Ade, and frankly that is fine, but for me he is the pivotal signing. For those of you who like to plug away at stats, please take a look at Arsenal’s record when Ade plays and when he doesn’t? If you want to count goals, fine, but get your ducks in a row first and see how much more valuable he is for that team big picture, and finally consider how valuable he can be for us. Imagine a towering striker pulling CB’s out of the box and leaving lanes for Pato to run into, or Dinho to pass into, enough said.
DeSilvestri (8-12M) – RB is our oldest position with Zambro and Oddo returning (I like Bonera as a CB as his runs forward are not the marauding type). We need help and fast, for those of you who like Mattioni, I ask Mattioni who? Or even better, remember Grimi? Exactly. We need Italian defenders, they are the best in the World because they provide results. What is it with Brazilian defenders anyway? When has Brazil been known for defenders!?!?!? I like DeSilvestri because he has upside, he likes to come forward ,and he is young. Picture a National team setup with a Milan RB and Inter LB, frightening yes, but the way things should be! No reason Italian club’s can’t breed and raise Italian players.
Barzagli (10-12M) – This is the one I struggled with for hours. I really really like Gamberini, but Fiorentina are no fools. If we are going to poach someone from Wolfsburg this is the guy. He played every minute this season, and Wolfsburg played solid defense in a league where defense is forgotten. He is Italian, he has National team experience, and he has played in Europe albeit UEFA, but I will take it. Having Nesta back is great but for how long, Silva will have growing pains, and Bonera is made of glass as of late, so isn’t it best to sure up the defense?
However I can be swayed if this move doesn’t work to pursue the next one…
Foggia (10-15M) – Yes he was ours, and yes we pissed him away for Oddo, but can you think of a guy, Italian, to complement Dinho behind a striker better than Foggia and for reasonably cheap. Lazio is a going the Argentine/South American route, and Foggia seemed to fall in and out favor last season, granted Rossi is gone, but why not bring Foggia back. If D’Agostino goes to Juventus to sit on the bench, shouldn’t Milan make a move for a guy like this?
Now I understand my choices can change based on formations and tactics, but that is my initial take, now let’s here yours!

Did you guys read the sh*t spewing from Berlusconi today? He blames Kaka for the result of the elections because the rossoneri supports wrote on their ballots “non si vende Kaka”

I have to disagree about Brazilians, Fet, because at one time they did do it best, but that balance and style of play has shifted. Critics, including myself, no longer view that Brazilian style as the Joga Bonito it once was, Joga Bonito is dead, and the Spanish, Portugese, even the Russians have evolved the game into something more. Therefore the purchase of a Brazilian is no longer a guarantee as has been scene with the Oliveira at Milan, Mattioni, Adriano, Nilmar at Lyon, Wagner Love at CSKA, even Robinho has failed to REALLY produce.
Hernanes is good at Sao Paolo, nothing more, the competition thereis far far far from European level, and I am not saying he can’t succeed, but success there is not what it once was, and certianly should not warrant extensive cash being spent on the player.

This will end me as a Milan fan…

U gotta admit there’s tons of brazilian superstars i Europe. Brazil has definately the most star fotballers in the world. However, i believe Brazil should kick Dunga, as he uses the wrong mentality, also, they should kick out all the lazy has-beens.

i do not think that gattuso would leave…i hope he does not leave..and besides that’s “sun” talking..

Rino will stay. And yeah Fet,I will prefer Benzema over Dzeko. But Dzeko is cheaper and Leo wants him.

Dunga has done quite well with Brazil. On their day, they f**k the opposition. Brazil 6:2 Crybaby’s team.

alex,
they HAD the best footballers in the world…that is no longer the case; Messi, CRON, Iniesta, Arshavin, Fabergas…you could make a case for Diego, but the new crop of talent is not neccasarily Brazilian. Plus “lazy has beens” seems to be the new trend that they need to worry about…

And Ro,I am surprised Berlu criticised Kaka. He should have known that Milanista’s wont be happy. I am surprised he won the election.

Gian,I have one word for you: Pato.

But I have to agree. Half of them dont make best use of their talents. They only want to party.

And if we sign Dzeko, then no more Brazilians(except if they have Italian passports). We fill our quota of 2 non EU players(Silva and Dzeko)

I have the same feeling, we are not signing anybody, significant at least … The way works is likely
10M for market and the remaining on Berlu’s hair dye, fake tan, hookers, etc … I also feel either Pirlo or Gatusso may leave to Chealsee (to unite with Carlo) … therefore both numbers above should get improved.
Time would tell …

Yes xu i agree,i have the same feeling too.

On Brazilians. No question their talent and skill is arguably the best, but their sense on system or tactic is poor or average at most, plus they often lack of self discipline and “lazy trend” is true too. Kaka is their best in recent years, but, to be honest, he is kind of abnormal Brazilian player …
Pato is also mentioned. I have a lot hope on him too, hoping he could get the level of Kaka in near future. But let it be clear: they are player of different level. Kaka is best 5, while Pato is well out of 20 … He is young, but that does not guarantee he’ll reach that level someday. I hope he will, and hope he will do that in Milan.

Juve swooped for two of these “abnormal” Brazilians. Milan just needs to be more selective. Frankly, a lot of it is down to their upbringing. The ones who grew up dirt poor in the favelas don’t have as much discipline when it comes to footy or money…..when the joy of playing is gone and the bank accounts full, it’s hard to find motivation.

Not this player. Talking ’bout Nilmar. I just can’t help but advocate for him. He’s a model, an exceptionnel talent, and sure wants to prove himself in the world class category.

I know Milan already has a lot of Brazilian players (but I don’t want to count Dida or Emerson, whose transfer would satify me for the following reason)… However how many strikers have this one’s grace, agility, speed, technic along with this decisiveness.
If Nilmar was to make the team, it would bring the tally of Brazilian starters to 4, which I agree is the limit in this squad which understands it ought to promote national talents. The reason I insist for Nilmar is that is exceptional, clearly outstanding. By being his fervent supporter, I’m probably overlooking other great players, but I do favor Nilmar to the likes of Adebayor, as good as he may be, or Eto’o (the latter to me lacks flair). Dzeko is my favourite of the prospects so far; but even him doesn’t please me as much as the still young Brazilian, who I think would be on too many from this country in milan. 4 is the limit, mainly because he is worth it.Posted from

People say Rossi is a Milan supporter, well so is Dzeko, i bet we’ll be getting him this summer, and as far as i’m concerned, it’ll be perfect.

Well, since Dzeko is almost a done deal, you can write 30 million off immediately, along with the signing of Adebayor. I’m not sure whether Dzeko will find Italian football to his liking, he will probably need a year or two to get into proper goal scoring condition, but as you said, a towering striker is a must now we’ve lost Kaka. His combination of technical ability and physical shape is excellent and he may well be as good as Ibrahimovic in a few years. He’s also a long-time Milan fan and that’s never a bad thing.
As for the other 20 million, I’d go for a solid central defender before anything else. Nesta and Thiago sound like a good pair but with Nesta’s back problems and Thiago being Brasilian, they’re highly unstable. I can’t think of any names I would back 100% that might actually join…but I can’t help but think big, so the names of Vidic and Lescott come to mind, both being likely to leave their clubs. Even if Silvio gets no BJ’s this year.
As for Nilmar, he’s a superbly talented player and would be a great signing, but I’m not sure how much space he would get in a Milan that seems determined to push Ronaldinho back into the spotlight.

If Dinho doesn’t produce, his time in the spotlight will be very short. He will have no more than a few months (from the start of the season) to prove himself; if that doesn’t happen it’s back to the bench and then bye bye. That said, I fully expect him to do well, although not at the level of the old Barca days…
