Inzaghi turned down RBNY, RBNY better off
By: Gianfranco | July 24th, 2007Pippo Inzaghi claims to have turned down RBNY of the MLS, even though they would have “covered him in gold” which are the words that the Champions League legend chose. I have to say that I am a little bit upset this, the Red Bulls are my favorite MLS team, remember they were once the Metrostars (should have never changed) sporting the Rossoneri (should have never changed) and home to all time great Milanista legend and Azzuri coach, Roberto “THE DON” Donadoni. It would have been a win, win situation for both Red Bulls and Milan, the Bulls would have got a solid striker and Milan and empty roster spot that can be used for a young striker on the right side of thirty. In the long run the deal has worked out better for RBNY because Juan Pablo Angel is dirty and Pippo well is just offside, ALL THE TIME. The skill set of each striker is almost incomparable because Pippo does little else but score, while Angel can do a bit of everything.
The Old Puma, Emerson, seems to be bit a confused about which Milan team he wants to come get him. His old drinking buddy, that was low, Adriano has requested the Puma at the Nerazzuri camp but the Matrix has requested that he not be brought in because just last year Emerson said that Inter caused Juve’s demotion and that Zlatan and Vieira were traitors for going to Inter. Quite frankly I hope they all fight death and Zlatan comes to Milan but anything that keeps ol’man Emerson out of Milan is good news to me.

Sorry, man — Ibra’s in the middle of negotiating his extension right now, he’s never leaving. (Fingers crossed.)
And I just wrote a post for later about the Pippo thing, too, but I’m with you — as a RBNY fan, I quite like the idea of him in NY, as odd as it surely would have been.

I do firmly believe though that Angel is the better player.

by the way Ibra is a lose cannon if he is in any way disrespected during those negotations he is as good as gone.

Angel has been a phenom, totally agree. Pippo as a Red Bull would piss me off terribly, but I still like the idea.
And I agree about Ibra, but I really think he’s comfortable at Inter, and will stay for a while. Yes, I’m a sucker. (Post about that coming, too.)

Assuming Pippo’s not making things up, I’d love to know when the offer was made, since RBNY keep saying Arena wouldn’t talk about anyone else until they got a response from Angel. They couldn’t have been trying to find a way to sign both, could they?

ya just gotta love super pippo, he touches the ball about 4 times in a game but scores two goals, plus his celebrations are legendary…

I don’t think so, it may have been one of those we have two targets lets see which one works out. There was a lot of talk that they contacted Ronaldo and Seedorf as well, I can only imagine how all those discussions played out.

Inzaghi has contributed A LOT to Milan, and I can’t agree more with anyone who says he can’t do anything except score, but come on, he’s a striker and that’s all he needs to. He’s scored a lot and that’s all that matters really. He won’t be remember as an amazing player, that’s for sure, but he will be remembered for all the goals he’s scored for us, especially in Europe.
With Milan being linked to a world-class striker, I think Inzaghi will be the 4th choice striker (i.e. last choice), sadly. So, to let go of him would be a risk (if 2 strikers get injured), OR if we can land 2 new strikers, it would be amazing.
Ideal situation : as you mentioned, Ibrahimovic, and of course, Pato.

I’d like to see any big name Serie A players in MLS….so Inzaghi at RBNY would have been interesting…..but I agree that RBNY are technically better off without him.
