Friday Milan Musings
By: Gianfranco | November 28th, 2008Lot of interesting comments regarding yesterday’s UEFA Cup fixture. Some positives, some negatives, and a fair amount of banter as well. We were also graced with the presence of some Inter fans, smarting after their superb CL performance I believe, as well as some Pompey fans. I was not able to watch the match due to Thanksgiving Obligation, but I was able to review a few different highlights as well as read some recaps. In lieu of a proper review I want to make some observations from the comments as well as the match itself…
- Sure this was “only” a UEFA Cup match, but regardless of the type, location, opponent, or personnel every single match is important. This is a team of players that should be able to win regardless of who is called upon, therefore it is imperative that every 90 minutes is hard fought, well organized, and strongly played. Playing to win only Serie A games or only Champions League is the single most ignorant thing I have ever heard, and what makes matters worse is that I have heard it from coaches and media pundits alike. To steal a phrase from American Football fame, you play to win the game, and by doing so you foster a culture of winning that will only make you stronger comes the next match. How does Pato feel when Pippo bags a brace in the UEFA Cup, maybe some pressure to perform better!? Milan must to play to win game in and game out; there is no simpler statement on the planet.
- Missing chances on net is the black plague of AC Milan. For all the Pompey fans that found solace and comfort in yesterday’s performance, please realize that score of that much could have been 5-2 with Pippo Inzaghi blowing a chance at a four goal outbreak. Pompey played well; you scored two very solid goals and did your best to impose and control the game, however you neglected to realize your luck when Pippo missed not once, not twice, but thrice. Pat yourselves on the back, but this draw rests squarely on Milan’s inability to finish. While I am at, Torino and Lecce fans please do the same, because if Milan would start burying the ball then these discussions would be extinct.
- Speaking of finishing, let this be a bit of a warning to all our friends at the Palermo Blog, your team is playing well and very capable of beating Milan, however once has to believe that this team is a game or two away from an all out goal landslide. It reminds me of a film quote from Poolhall Junkies, a worthy view for any fan of film, discussing a lion and goes something like this,
“You watch those nature documentaries on the cable? You see the one about lions? You got this lion. He’s the king of the jungle, huge mane out to here. He’s laying under a tree, in the middle of Africa. He’s so big, it’s so hot. He doesn’t want to move. Now the little lions come, they start messing with him. Biting his tail, biting his ears. He doesn’t do anything. The lioness, she starts messing with him. Coming over, making trouble. Still nothing. Now the other animals, they notice this. They start to move in. The jackals; hyenas. They’re barking at him, laughing at him. They nip his toes, and eat the food that’s in his domain. They do this, then they get closer and closer, bolder and bolder. Till one day, that lion gets up and tears the shit out of everybody. Runs like the wind, eats everything in his path. Cause every once in a while, the lion has to show the jackals, who he is.”

The Torinos, Lecces, and Palermo’s of the World and any other team for that matter consider yourself warned, it is only a matter of time before the lion takes it’s rightful place at the top of Serie A.
MUSINGS…
-The sale of Kaka could potentially fund the purchase of a whole new defensive line. Mexes, Ramos, Santcroce, DeSilvestre…the list goes on. 150M for Kaka means some quick spashes of cash and any defender our hearts desire, any thoughts!? The notion that Dinho’s return to form makes Kaka expendable is preposterous to me considering Kaka has is younger and has proved more durable, but the discussion will never end. Sell Dinho while his stock is up, Kaka played well for Milan before his arrival, maybe they are hawking the wrong guy…
-Speaking of Mexes, it said that Roma will part ways with him for 25M. I have nothing against Phil, he has proved serviceable though susceptible to the occasional error of judgment, but than again what defender hasn’t. The problem with the price is that Roma is hurting for cash and if you put their face to the fire, Mexes may be had for less, I just hope Milan doesn’t over pay when their transfer partner is a bit more desperate than we may first think. Mexes however is far preferred over William Gallas, who has more screws loose lately than any defender on the planet. Sure he has talent, but I have never seen a player emotionally and mentally implode on more than one occasion than this guy. Gallas is damaged goods and I hope Fester realizes this before it is to late and we are harboring two Arsenal castaways instead of just one…
-On a side note, I will be leaving the country shortly and returning to regularly scheduled postings on 12/8/08. I need a vacation and a chance to bring my frenetic life to a crawl once again. I will have access to my Milan, but not to my computer. Scheduled pre canned posts will go up throughout my week away, but I trust you will all do what you do best. Engaging discussion and comments and the blog will run seamlessly, have a good week and FORZA MILAN!!!!!

Listen, folks. Your team is soft physically and mentally. Deal with that. Why do you think you are in the fucking uefa cup to start with? C’mon and get real about your chances to play epl teams regularly with this squad. It would be a disaster for yuo physically. Every game, almost every single one, against teams bigger, fitter, stronger, and faster. It will take a real toll and an epl campaign would be a long one for milan.
Also remember that once you lost CL status for a couple yrs running, it would really hurt the team financially. A cycle would begin and relegation would become a concern within 5 yrs.

My dad was saying that berlusconi’s son is like taking over milan or something. He says he likes the way he thinks, supposedly if what he says is true, because you can never tell with my dad whether he’s trying to fool me to make me believe something because he’s mad that I know more than him, anyways he says that his son wants young Italians and he wants to get rid of all the old crappy players. I hope that its true because how cool would it be to have great young homegrown talent instead of going to other clubs for their talent?
Also I don’t want to sell kaka just because of how much he’s done for us…even if he’s playing bad right now we need to keep faith in him and hope that he gets his but back into gear.

If senderos is a centre back I’m Paolo Maldini. what an absolute turd of a player – and now the joke is that Milan want to buy gallas to complete the set. It was embarrasing watching senderos destroy all the good work created elsewhere on the pitch. Bravo to Inzaghi for hitting the woodwork 3 times but believing right to the end.

Dave, if I may, this squad was a b team and a tie away from home in a UEFA group match is more than sufficient, however as a real fan of calcio, my gripe comes with the need to concede two before we can score one, it is not good. As for Milan playing in the EPL, be easy on what you say because if you are A. Inter fan, B. Roma Fan, C. Juventus fan, if you are a Pompey fan bless you because the CL is farther away than you think, whatver choice you make you have very little ground to stand on considering that all three of those team seem to cave when they make their way to UK, where very few Italian teams outside of Milan have had any success.
Also, in case your knowledge of calcio does not go past 2000, or yesterday, Milan did lose CL standing from 1996-1999 and what did they do following that dry spell, well two scudettos, two CL trophies and a World Club Cup. Becareful what you wish for, as I said earlier the lion is growing restless…

i like the lion analogy, Gianfranco. do you think Milan will get it going on Sunday without Kaka?

dave, humor me.
tell me about real madrids chances in the epl.
again, you are going off on a subject that makes no sense and has no legitimate point. i wonder how the brazilian or spanish national team would do in the epl?
im sure they would both get their asses kicked no? technical quality is their greatest assets, but when it comes to strength, the english will blow them away.
for fucks sake man, make a realistic argument atleast. theres too much bullshit nonsense in what you write. you are such an impeccable imbecile.

Dave why do you even bother posting here? We are not interested in your useless comments.

Seem interested. And that’s b/c its interesting to speculate such things. As for the Brazilian national team in the epl, I think they would contend in the cups, but not the league, for obvious reasons.
Milan needs to play Pato, Dinho and Kaka together every game and lose Sheva–EPL’s speed and power left him in shock–and old ass Seedorf. Play Pippo last 30 if needed.

I didn’t want to get into this because I wasn’t involved to begin with but no one and I mean NO ONE can talk like you have been about my, our, Milan. So please remember the rule that if you don’t have anything nice to say or constructivly say it please don’t say it because your just wasting our time.

Please Dave we dont need tips on the Cl from a guy who supports a team who needed to cheat to win the CL. Yup that son a bitch angelo moratti did pay a lot of cash to beat pool in 1965. Inter just cant win in the UCL , camn they?? Panathinoikos?? wtf??? hahahhha. that too at the San siro . sheesh.

Dave is right, Milan probably couldn’t compete physically in the EPL. But why would we need a team that can compete in the EPL when we play in the Serie A? Stating that the style of play in different leagues is different is like saying the sun rises at different times in China and in South Africa. I don’t mind Inter fans ragging Milan about slipups – thats fair. But how are you going to be talking trash when Milan has a pretty good recent history against EPL teams (we beat one to win the CL, if you recall), and you A)rarely even get to the CL semis and B)just lost to some Greek team at home who have collectively 1/10 of the salary of your own Inter?
That tells me you’re just being a hater. Which, if that makes you feel better about yourself, fine. But it still won’t change any scoreboards.Posted from

“Mexes, Ramos, Santcroce, DeSilvestre…the list goes on. 150M for Kaka means some quick spashes of cash and any defender our hearts desire, any thoughts!?”
I AM LIKING THIS IDEA RIGHT HERE!!!
Kaka is a wonderful player, but when it comes down to it, I wouldn’t mind buying a defensive line as stated above with the $$$ from selling him. Always whats better for the team. FORZA MILAN.!!!Posted from

the fact is: OUR DEFENSE is hurting us the most right now!

lolol at dave, dude you must be smoking something weird for breakfast, dinner & lunch. your team couldn’t even dispose of a greek club at the meazza and you wanna talk about milan’s CL credentials remember not even two years ago we thrashed man united at the san-siro by a 3-0 scoreline, whats inter done significantly in the CL since cheating thier way into winning it when all tv’s were still in white & black…haha thats been a while ago just to let ya know. the only class player you have on your team is captian zanetti almost all the rest are overrated cheats: i only appreciate maicon ibra and adriano.

If we sell kaka in order to get money(which we have like water) im not going to be milan fan nevermore again.Since 5 years old i liked the club and watched milan everytime when it was on tv.But i dont think our club is thinking of selling kaka cause they mostly never sell their stars(thats why i like them) and they dont think like uneducated fans that kaka is past.So please stop complaining about kaka cause he was our best player in past few years and will be too in following years. And please dave leave forum cause you are drugged i mean inter didnt win almost a single competition in past 20 years(i dont count administartive title(lol) and that title when milan didnt play from 0 pt) and you are talking about “bad” milan.Your players are retards without success in carers and i just wait like every year their champions league clash against some average europoean team(like valencia) for you to get knockouted from cl.Not to mention what would happen if you get man utd or barcelona.

the idiots who think of selling kaka’ are an embarrassment to the rest of the educated milan fans.
what a damn shame.

It’s a redundant argument by Dave. At the end of the day, skill wins over physique. It’s the addition of skill which has elevated the EPL to its current strength relative to other leagues, not the addition of strength. There was a time when EPL teams were easy beats in Euro competition but not so anymore. It’s not that they have gotten stronger, it’s that they have acquired better players.
All this talk of a “physical” English game and “defensive” but frail Italian game, is mostly stereotype nonsense. English clubs are doing well because they have solid, deep squads in terms of quality players. Milan should have blitzed Pompey in the first 20 mins but Pippo missed two absolute sitter which kept the English in the game.

So, will Ancelotti “live it bold” against Palermo and go with two strikers and Ronaldinho, or will it be only one striker with Seedordf moving up to take Kaka’s slot?

Whatever happens sunday, we need a good win, by like 3 goals. Once we stop this not being ale to finish bullshit we’ll go straight to the top. we create the chances and control play and are fantastic in 2/3 of the pitch, but when it comes down to it we can never put it in the back of the net. which we all know by now…

I don’t know. I think with Ambro back, he’s gonna go with Gattuso – Pirlo – Ambro, Dinho – Dorf, Pato.
0-0, if that’s formation.
Posted from
United States

-

Scratch that.. Gattuso will not play due to back problem.
Ancelotti said ‘Tomorrow’s doubt is tied only to Seedorf’s availability on the pitch, we shall see with which setup to play.’
So basically, it’s a toss up. Either Pirlo, Ambro, Dorf; Dinho; Pato, Pippo OR Pirlo, Ambro, Emerson/Flamini; Dorf, Dinho; Pato.

Well, after seeing Milan v Palermo, Milan really need to consider purchasing a really talended or strong defender.
Milan is a big club, in fact in my opinion Milan is in the top five clubs in the world. However,
More to the point, Milan keep conceding goals, goals that cost us dearly, like we saw in lecce and Torino.
Now, Galliani and Ancelotti need to sit down and consider buying a world class defender if were to succeed in the future. Also we have no wingers (excluding Ronladinho) we seriuosly need some purchasing in order to win the Serie A.
I just hope we do some purchasing in the January transfers, espicially a defender and a winger.Posted from
