Eto back in the Spotlight

By: Gianfranco | July 17th, 2007

Another day, another Barca player with a possible, supposed offer, today’s player of choice is none other than Samuel Eto. Eto is from Cameroon, likes long walks on the beach, looking for a trophy winning commitment and sharing the spotlight with Brazilians…oops that got out of hand.

The bid is around $56M with a subsequent $8M per year contract for four years. Eto is and has always been the first choice for Ancelotti, who at times seems to be the only rational stooge between himself, Berlusconi, and Galliani. Ancelotti claims that Eto will best fit the Rossoneri system, and is a better investment than ‘Dinho, and I have to agree with him. Eto is a three tool striker, ball at his feet, passer, and target, and will work nicely with any partner up front and Kaka behind. His style is very similar to that of TH14, Thierry Henry, so Eto may warm to a Milan move.

If this bid fails, Milan will have very little time to get a second move on the table. I am beginning to think they will wait for the Chelsea boys to return before completing any moves in case they do want to swing in for Sheva or Drogba. As reported yesterday, Mourinho has renewed faith in Sheva, and Kalu is chomping at the heels of the starters to fill the striker role, so the more and more I think about it the more expendable Drogba can become. One further note to bring up is that whatever striker is purchased, if he is from an African nation he will be away in January for national team duty. Chelsea is screwed either way with both Kalu and Drogba away; Barca has a bit more flexibility even with the dynamite move of Guily to Roma (suckers).

I just want to take a moment to gripe about Ricky Kaka, who has pledged himself to Milan and shooed away any advances from his national team. Both he and Ronaldinho requested to be left of the Copa America squad that went on to win the cup. I think this is a terrible thing for any player to do and should not be allowed without some form of fine or punishment to the organization. Landon Donovan did the same thing for the US, and then complained about the team’s performance, while Totti continues to string along the Azzuri, these are National team heroes and need to behave as such. I appreciated Kaka’s pledge to the club, but he should not forget his home in the process.

yeah this is just about as likely as jessica alba showing up at my door step to use my “phone”… just today we have been linked to over 6 strikers between tevez, pato, quag-mire, baptista, adriano and now eto’o… well if even 2 of the damn “news”papers cant agree with each other, they are all probably bullshit..

Damn, you must be really pissed at him to bring Landon into the conversation. I kid, but I truly appreciate that sort of rage.

(Thoughts on Pato? Honestly, do you think he’ll end up at Inter or Milan? I can’t tell fact from fiction with that one.)

This Pato thing is actually a complete mystery to me. A young Brazilian with worlds of upside and not yet signed by Berlusconi and company, heck I am even surprised he has not had him over to meet his daughters yet. Clearly someone at Milan has seen something about this kid that has cool their jets on him, what it is I have no idea becuase other than youtube videos (some that are very disturbing) he is relatively unknown to me. Inter have to many strikers to make a big move on him without first dumping someone else. The dark horse in all this is Chelsea who if they lose either Sheva or Drogba will def make a press for Pato, or they will sign Pato and then make the two elder strikers expendable leaving Pato with Kalu for a very dynamic and youthful pair.

Can you see Pato at Inter?

I AM PISSED OFF AT LANDON! I hate that he is the spokesman for the US national team he is a moron, and so tacky at times that it just throws me into fits of rage. His quote about Beckham “throwing some cash” to the lesser paid players is appalling when you make 900K yourself.

I spoke to my little cousin yesterday, and while on the subject of Galaxy coming to play against the RedBulls soon, he casually mentioned that he played against Landon in some high-school tournament in Florida like 10 years ago, to which I responded “holy fkn sh!t!”

Apparently my cuz, who’s a bit of a bruiser, said that Landycakes was “fast as hell”… he also mentioned that he “fouled the shit out of him” during the entire match, so I hope the thought of Landon “International Superstar” Donovan being hacked by my relative makes you feel better.

Gianfranco, I DESPISE Landon. Not only is he a moron, but he’s too much of a baby to go to Europe and get better (Whine, battling for a place is hard) and as a result is useless to the national team when push comes to shove. (So I’m sitting here, gleefully bathing in all this hate and fouling. Take that, you soft little shit. Ahem.)

Regarding Pato, I don’t know any more about him that you do, so it’s hard for me to think too concretely about him at Inter. Frankly, it’s much easier for me to see him at Milan, he seems much more like your type of player/project. I gather despite the first bad game he’s shown fairly well in Canada, so I’m sure he’ll be somewhere in Europe after his birthday, but your guess is as good as mine where it will be. The idea of Chelsea is an intriguing one; I’m not a fan of the team but would like to see what Mourinho did with him.

Martha, Cheers to Landon Donovan’s complete ineptitude.

I think Pato is a better fit at Chelsea in terms of his development, Milan develops players well but have less patience with them. Mourinho is more flexible and can really work a player in and out of games because of the LONG GRUELING EPL schedule, ie Soloman Kalu. He does fit the Milan mold over Inter becuase Inter has no intention of development what so ever…so I agree that Chelsea and Milan are the main spots for him.

About Kaka, at first I felt the same way, but I ended up being caught in 2 minds. I am both a huge Rossoneri and Brasil fan. The Brasil part of me felt a bit angry and disappointed that our best player of the moment (and IMO in general) was pulling out of the tournament. After some further reflection I realised it was for the best. Look at Ronaldinho at the World Cup last year… he looked exhausted. Even this season he was unable to give his best for Barca. Kaka has been constantly playing for Milan for the past 4 seasons, also he played in the Confederations cup in 2005, World cup 2006 and pretty much all of Brasil’s friendlies and qualifiers in that time. With the long exciting season ahead for Milan, we need Kaka in top form; not burnt out. I believe the LONG rest Milan have given him would benefit both parties in the future!

Almost forgot…Pato? From what I’ve seen this kid has a lot of potential. He’s quick, he has pretty good movement both on and off the ball and his attacking vision is quite impressive. What appeals most to me about “Pato to Milan” is that he is YOUNG!I appreciate (some of) the old men at Milan, but it would be great if the Rossoneri can add some young talent to the squad. We have to think about the future and I believe now is a good time to bring in a few youngsters to learn from the older ones before they retire. A good blend of youth and experience adds to success, provides entertainment and creates hope for the future. Gourcuff is the only true youngster of ours. I believe we need more though. Why not give the young frenchman a young brasilian friend in the team? The Milan squad can more than handle just 2 young lads!
