Despair…

By: Gianfranco | July 2nd, 2009

This whole week I have struggled for something to say. As I watch transfer rumor after transfer rumor fly by, I can’t help but sit here dumbfounded and ask quite polity WTF is going on!? Sure if you like Real Madrid this may be the best transfer season in history; Kaka, CRON, Benzema, and the possibility for more like Ribery and Villa. If you like Milan however it is a far different feeling, with the Cissokho failure, the Dzeko failure and now the courtship of the likes of Fabiano, Toni, and even the horrible Peter Crouch maybe things really are taking a turn for the worst for the Rossoneri and Serie A.

I have always been of the belief that football, much like life, is cyclical in nature. Serie A, EPL, and La Liga all have had their day in the sun, strong transfer markets and quality teams really push that issue, but this shift of power is alarming especially considering where it may potentially leave our club and league. The EPL has been a powerhouse as of late luring talent and mongering CL final positioning, but even the EPL fans must now gawk at La Liga and wonder how on Earth can this be good for the game?

Galaticos Part I was fruitful for Real with titles and a CL trophy, but the aftermath had left them unable to progress in Europe and at times even struggle on the domestic front, though they did win some titles, the post Galaticos era was not one that many a Real fan would be proud of. Out of that era sides like Milan, Bayern, Juventus, ManU, and even Porto were given chances to shine as they pushed their domestic competitions and challenged for CL final places. Now as we embark on Galaticos Part II the feelings are similar, but the rest of the competition doesn’t seem all that poised to spring back. Even Sir Alex and his new CRON money war chest has yet to make the big splash we all anticipated, no Benzema, no Ribery, no Villa, and yes SAF is a shrewd guy and chooses his players wisely, but Real Madrid seems to be hitting pay dirt with no real answer from the footballing world.

It is no secret that AC Milan and even Serie A as a whole is in a bit of a rut. Serie A clubs do not operate with such massive amounts of debt, they don’t partake in massively lucrative TV contracts, and matter of factly they do not even generate much revenue from stadiums as they are not their own. So as a fan of Serie A and football as a whole, I have asked myself more often than not this week, can Serie A come out strong once again? At first glance the answer is no, but if history does in fact repeat they will find a way, be it new owners, new stadiums, or new operational procedures something will be done to inject revenue in a league that is falling behind quickly. Even as I keep a close eye on Juventus and Inter, big transfer market players, they are making domestic deals for cheap, focusing on youth, and buying what they can in an effort to stay competitive on the low budget, our Milan on the other hand seems to have missed the memo.

The return of players like Abate and DiGennaro is a good start, and the willingness to keep Pato seems like a good plan, but the rest of the plot is entirely lost. Courting a player like Peter Crouch or even a Fabiano is an embarrassment to me as a fan, and a hard hit to the ego of a club who used to buy who it wanted, when it wanted, and basically on their terms. That is no longer the case, and I am OK with that, but in a “rebuilding” system it is important to add youth and depth to produce and create a squad with cohesion and chemistry in a position to be able to compete and with the potential to succeed. How do players like Fabiano and Crouch fit that need? Frankly they don’t, and please don’t say I don’t like Fabiano because he is Brazilian, because that is not the case. I don’t like Fabiano because he is not all that good, some of you bashed the Confed Cup for lack of competition and in the same sentence praised Fabiano for succeeding it, I will not take part in this hypocrisy, and will not support his possible transfer his poor season says enough on that regard. Crouch I will not even discuss…

Yes, I have come to accept that Ronaldinho is our playmaker and I am even comfortable with Pato and Borriello up top, but the issues at LB and RB have not been addressed and even Nesta and Silva at CB cannot be the surest bet. The midfield still lacks any real game tested depth and that is position that Fester and company have not even mentioned. The gist of my ranting here is simple, I have accepted the fact that Real Madrid are blowing teams out of the water, I have also accepted that Milan is in a mode to rebuild much like we did in the late nineties, but I am not sold on how this process is being handled and currently lack the optimism to shine a positive light on things. These have been my most trying months as a Milan fan, and it doesn’t look like they are going to get any easier.

I wonder why Galliani want Huntelaar anyway. Last summer he said that Borriello is better than him. So why purchasing a player who probably won’t play that much if Marco is healthy. I can understand when Galliani only want him on loan. Makes sense anyway, have a striker for one season only to get Dzeko next summer.

I fear that Fabiano will be like Oliveira in Milan. I hope they don’t buy him for 20 mill. Besides that, I do agree with Galliani. Madrid messed up the transfer market. Wehnever you hear anything about a player, even a mid class player, it is always at least 30 million that must be paid to secure him. That’s so rubbish. What will be the prices next summer? At least 50 million for a player. In all honesty, it wasn’t Real who started it, the Prem is doing this for years already.

At the one hand I’m glad Galliani is not playing along, at the other hand we need reinforcements. However, I don’t believe we will get any new players in D. Even though Cissokho might still end up at Milan. Favalli was just resigned for another year!

It would be great to have another creative midfielder.

@Jovan: He is an arrogant idiot but that makes him loveable as well. My favorite quotes from him:

Zlatan – “First I went left, he did too. Then I went right, and he did too. Then I went left again, and he went to buy a hot dog.”

Reporter – “You’ve got some scars in your face, Zlatan. What has happened?”
Zlatan – “Well…I don’t know…you’ll have to ask your wife about that”

Reporter – “Do you think it’s even possible for Ajax to lose nine points in nine games?”
Zlatan – “According to my calculations it is possible to lose nine points in only three games.”

Oh wow. So I just read that Inter already sold about 14000 or 24000 season tickets, while Milan is still under 1000.

I find it rather embarrassing for a team of Milan’s stature to be looking for players to buy on a loan, like Huntelaar. As far as I know, it’s usually the big clubs that loan out players to smaller clubs, who can’t afford to buy.

This summer has been simply pathetic. Maldini retires, Ancelotti leaves. Then we let go of our best prospect, and sell our best player. So, basically, we’re now loaded with cash. We make a move for Dzeko, and he says he wants Milan, then he says he wants to stay. We practically give up. We make a move for a right-back, then he fails medical because of his teeth. We want Fabiano, but he’s too expensive, so we try to get Huntelaar on a loan, and we fail. Then, the president comes out and says, no no, we don’t need players, because we’re still better than any other team in Italy. Then the CEO comes out and says, OK, we don’t need an offensive player; we already have 6 at our disposal.

WHAT AN EPIC FAIL OF A TEAM.

This year is going to be depressing. I just hope we can sign some players. Its very important for us to remain in the top 4.
I hope the protests knock some sense into Berlu. We are as strong as Inter?? What a deluded moron.

I don’t wish ill towards the club as a whole.

But Berlu & Galiani need to again drop out of the top 4 to see that they are damaging the club in ways that may not be really felt for a few years. The image of the club has taken a battering.

If anyone still thinks Kaka wasn’t forced out and wanted to leave, your basically blind as a bad and stupid a donkey’s asshole.

This management has a PH’D in LYING, with a Major in bullshitting and a minor “F” things up.

They lie & contradict themselves so much they can’t keep with their own BS.

To people who think it’s a sellout or just plain wrong to have foreign owners owning Milan. Your living about 15 years ago, out of touch with reality and would deserve to have Berlu & Galiani lie to you until they die.

Because i’d rather have a non-Italian ownwer/management team, who is honest with the fans, a straight talker, who doesn’t lie and say one thing and then do another…, than
an Italian owner that do the things that these bunch of greedy, lying, fuck-ups do.

Berlu’s rep (nationally and internationally)is going down the toilet faster than Eron’s stock because he can’t keep his hand from going up 18 year old skirts, and he’s taking the team’s rep, our team’s rep with it.

BTW – Did you guys read Galiani’s most recent rant…

“Real Madrid Have Destabilised The Transfer Market
The Rossoneri executive has blamed los Merengues’ free-spending for the inflated prices in the transfer market.”

    BIG DAWG’S TRANSLATION OF GALIANI’S WORD…

“Ever since we sold Kaka for that record transfer fee to Mardrid and have sooooo much money, everyone knows we’re sitting on a pile of cash and demanding an inflated amount of cash for they’re players from us. boo hoo hoo.”

Cry me a river Galiani had you not sold Kaka till later in the transfer window you wouldn’t have had this problem. Better yet had not sold him at all, and told Real to shove it like you told us you would do from the beginning and built around him, the transfer market wouldn’t be destablized at all. What a fuck-up!

Long and short of it. This management team is not the same that led us to where we are, they need to pass the torch to an owner, Italian or non-Italian that is ready to pick that torch up and do what it takes to continue to build the legacy of success that Milan Fans deserve.

*Sorry for the long winded post…but i’m frustrated beyond belief with management.

BTW – I think The Ultras share my sentiments :)

BigDawg do you really think that it is easy to sign good player now?Its not like we didnt try-dzeko begged to go for milan wolves didnt let him go,cissokho was fail too, fabiano, crouch, huntelaar(they are all shits but thats not point now) were fail too it seems. We cannot make 50 million moves.Galiani is right on one thing-real DID destabilise the market-i mean spending 300 milion in just few weeks in the moment of WFC is ridiculous.Perez is showing to all of us how drug dealing is very profitably.
The question is-be real who do you go for if you were the one to decide? Not so many both cheap and good players on the market..

even if they get ribery kaka can still play an offensive part… ribery kaka C. ROnaldo and Lassana Diara in the middle. Anyway….. i’ve been a milan fan for a while and ive seen the many era’s of this team. I just hope we arent heading into another era of mediocrity just to save a couple million in cash. True they are the management at the end of the day, and even though they anger me immensely at time i still have faith in them, and even tho it may seem that they are lying and contradicting themselves, I truly believe that they are doing it in the best interest of t he club. Galliani has been at his job for a long time, and I truly believes he in MIlan in and out. even though i may not agree with it, I believe he knows the market and always makes his decisions with the clubs best intrest in mind.

On Fetyani “ill take Eto’o over Fabiano, Adebayor, Huntelaar…” Me too! who don’t? I think villa is pretty good too …

I just cannot believe that you guys are still waiting “big” signings. Those are NOT going to happen! ANY IDEA why we literally tried/interested EVERY strikers in the market? Because we don’t have money to sign any specific one! Even those at the bottom of our list (i.e., Fabiano/Huntelaar/Crouch … ). Believe me, we are going to sign a crap one at last minute of the transfer window (like we did with Olivila, remember he was worth $18m and we don’t have that amount of money).

    and see this?

    http://www.tribalfootball.com/berlusconi-my-ac-milan-better-inter-255184

With Kaka, Milan are 10+ points away from Inter for how many straight seasons? And now without kaka, we are “STILL” a better team … I don’t know what do say, Just want to throw up …

Oh my u guyz r kool aid drinkers.

Abused wives often defend their husband when their friends point out all frigged up things he’s doing to them.

@ Pera – Don’t U get it. U can’t have it both ways. Galiani is the one who destablized the market by accepting the monster bid. U can’t smile all the way to the bank and then curse it when it’s ur turn to pay up, and now find it hard to compete.

I can’t believe U guyz still defend these bunch of punks…I see right through them. They want the cheap way out 4 EVERYTHING and they sulk and make excuses when things don’t go their way. I’m not saying they’re purposely/intentionally destroying the club. But its clear they aren’t prepared to do what it takes to field a World Class team.

@ Trini – Management has seemed to lie, seemed to lie. Get your head out of the hole my friend, LIED MANY MANY TIMES!!! (Whatever man keep defending these guyz but they lie buff) My faith is earned and can be lost. They had it and now they don’t. They’ve lied waaaaay 2 much. And I won’t cut them any slack, none, not one drop of sympathy until they smarten up and they demonstrate to my satisfaction that they are prepared to do what it takes to field a winner.

Even the Ultras see what’s going on. Y do you think they’re protesting???

Rosina, Zapata, Adebayor, Cissoko & Rossi. All in favor say I!!!
