I personally think that Gattuso and Pirlo need about 3 month of rest which is unrealistic. So maybe Pirlos injury is a blessing in disguise.

Yes but when the opposition sticks two banks of four in front of them you need the full-backs to overlap and create space, Moka.

if we can have jankulovski replicate today’s form on sunday, and zambrotta on the right, we will be set.
i dont know why, maybe lack of fitness, but jankulovski barely ran up in our first game vs. bologna. he was eventually subbed off at the half.
our fullbacks are key to our system. they are the runners, keep the machine ticking.

still sticking to my shot at the formation… no comments from you guys on this so far…reposting it
zambro…darmian…bonera….antonini
…..flamini……..ambro……….
..kaka…………………..dinhio
………boriello…pato………..why would you not play both zambro and antonini, why janks? they both can play either flank..
depending on performances, you have the option to sub maldini in (for lb or cb), senderos (hopefully he will play), cardaccio or viudez (for dinhio)
this looks very weak defensively tho and we should prob switch to 4-3-1-2 when gattuso is back and play kaka behind 2 strikers…Posted from

^ don’t mind. can’t get any worse in the serie a than it already has

Sam, it is a bit “green” in the back and leaves the middle a bit exposed, but in looking at it, it is basically a hybrid 4-4-2. As A said, can it get any worse, NO, so if they run with it I don’t mind. I am all for Antonini playing, and playing alot.

was thinking that flamini and ambro can be used to do the sweeper role when zambro runs up the flanks as he is wont to do…also, kaka and dinhio can do their feeder routine to the strikers up front and can also fall back to defend…
trying think of what could work best with who we have, who is in form / uninjured and who wants to play for the team!
what other suggestions do u guys have?Posted from

Sam, I like a 4-2-3-1 with our current player selection, but it may not be as offensive as we would like it to be. A four 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield works as well, but again it isnt conducive who or what is available.

Sam, essentially, my formation is the same except I prefer Pato - Kaka - Dinho to be on the same line, with Borriello further up as the target man. Pato/Kaka/Dinho can rotate around behind Borriello, possibly Pato attacking from the right, Dinho from the left, and Kaka through the middle, but it can be very flexible. Now, depending on how the opposition defends, the full-backs either stay back or attack. I personally would rather see them not attack so much, just provide a little support when needed.
That way, Milan should be able to score. And in the 2nd half, they can switch to defensively, by taking off whoever needs rest up in front and putting in, Gattuso or Emerson or someone.
I don’t think 4-4-2 diamond can’t work b/c you need wingers and full-backs. Milan only have full-backs.

Moka I am too am all for an offensive minded first half and defensive minded second, however if you start to include Emerson and remove attack it leaves quite a hole if the game becomes a draw or a lost lead.

Is this the next AC Milan star??? Where did this kid come from??? What nationality does he have? It seems as if he is 9 years old, but plays unbelievable! Does he play in Italy already? Does anyone know? The kid is just amazing! Friends in Amsterdam sent me his videos, check him out and enjoy!

Finally, a win!!!!!
I couldn’t watch the match last night but kept wapping on the phone to check in with you guys.
I know everyone is down before this match and I was to but I hope this is the start of a turn around (fingers crossed!).
I have been reading the posts for a while and I can detect a slight hint of “Who shall we pin this on?” and Carlo & Dinho have crept in there with one or two more others, but i have been changing my view recently and ask:
“Are we being soooo pessimistic (bearing in mind, its only week 2) because we expect sooo much from Milan the Team and Milan the Squad???”

I’d rather never include Emerson ever again! He was useless last night when he came on. Slow, uninterested, tactically naive, gave away the freekick that they scored from, and didn’t mark the player who scored from it. Oh and got booked. Its not the first time his introduction has caused us problems.

playing a 4-4-2 with kaka’ and ronaldinho on the sides would be difficult.
with their qualities, kaka’ and ronaldinho arent players you want to be back defending. it would be 50% of their game, and as a result their attacking qualities would be hindered significantly.
lets not forget, the 4-4-2 is what brazil tried in the world cup and failed miserably.
i am all for the 4-3-1-2 but unfortunately theres no place for ronaldinho in that. what can i say, i love that formation, but ronaldinho might be a bench player. but its carlo’s problem as of now, lets see what he does on sunday.

Giancfranco’s quote below
“Shehan, you are correct, in fact I did not see the game however when the Rossoneri score three goals all of them without Dinhio on the pitch it leads me to believe he was not needed, and begs the question, is he ever needed?”
WTF is the above…he’s played 3 games. If we use that logic we could question the necessity of both Pirlo & Maldini also.
We would have won that game if R80 started as well as the key was having 2 strikers on the pitch at the same time along with the movement and hustle of the players.
If you ask me Pirlo holds up the ball way too much, and is slow, which kills quick attacks.
It’s not Dinho’s fault that Sheva & Inzaghi couldn’t put away their chances against Bologna, and that he just came off of international duty against Genoa.
U R waaaaaaaaay to hard on him and don’t gine him a 10th of the chance that U give to Slowdorf, and Peerlow!
I digress.
This was a good game by all the team must put this type of effort forth all the time. Playing with 2 strikers should be standard & once Sheva gets the monkey off his back he’ll probably explode. (His double kick was awesome)
For now though Pato & Boriello must be starters and Ancelotti can’t keep giving Sheva the start over them.
It’ll be interesting to see who Ancelotti selects for the Lazio game.
Any prognostications on the selections?

A.C.MILAN COMUNICATO UFFICIALE
19/09/2008
=========pirlo is out for upto 2 months.
we’ll be ok if carlo shuffles our strategy, but italy is definitely f’d.
bigdawg, i’m not even going to attempt a lineup for sundays game…

BigDawg, I have always believed that respect and specifically fandom is something that must be earned and that no player should be given a “free pass” as a starter, in that same respect once a player has earned my respect I do tend to give them more leeway. But what Pirlo, Maldini, and even Slowdorf have done for me far exceed anything that Ronaldinho will ever do for me, he does not have enough time in his life to equal those accomplishments. I have said it once and I will say it again, we NEED HIM TO SUCCEED, but until he does he will be criticized for what he is not doing and right now for me and it isnt much.
You can not tell the guy will do great thing and lead this team, my expectations are to high now, so he has that much farther to climb!
Here is a projected lineup from Channel 4, and if it is true I may boycott the game…
Abbiati; Bonera, Maldini, Senderos, Zambrotta; Flamini, Seedorf Ambrosini; Kaka, Ronaldinho, ShevchenkoPosted from

Sam, that’s basically a 4-2-2-2 which is what Brazil plays with. Way too attacking for Serie A, if you ask me.

Dinho got his rest. I wouldn’t mind seeing him start, and hope that he plays like he did on his debut. Sheva was looking sharp yesterday, but I’d prefer Pato or Borriello, and then bring on Sheva in 2nd half.
I want to see more of Cardacio. He had some nice moves in the pre-season friendles. This is his chance, with Pirlo out.

Fair enough Gianfranco,
I see it slightly different but we’ll talk about that some other time.
What we definately do agree on is the fact that if the line up you posted is the one on the field come Sunday…I might not be able to watch.
2 games start with X-Mas formation and we lose…the game we don’t use it we win.
IMO this is a no brainer for Ancelotti. Let’s wait and see though.

looks like Milan will field Ambro, Flamini & Ringhio on Sunday. Kaka and Dinho upfront with Borriello as a lone striker. hopefully in the second half, depends how the game is going i would like to see another striker, Pato or Sheva.
Pirlo’s injury is too long but may still be for the best. he really really needs a lot of rest, send him to sardegna or any beach at let the guy chill. he didnt get a break since wc06

Well with the three defensive mids perhaps Milan will be able to win the ball back more easily and more quickly. I just hope that those three can also feed it into the ball players well.

Lazio is not Zurich - but the morale boost will still be massive for the players. looking forward to it.
