Maldini Monday
By: Gianfranco | December 17th, 2007
Well the day that most of us have been dreading has finally come, we all knew it was on its way but you tend to worry about it when it actually happens. On the brightside it is going to be awhile and until then we get to enjoy Il Capitano in both Seria A and the Champions League. Now there is no real way to send off Maldini, no games, no parades, or celebrations would be enough to measure up to the accolades, but here at the Milan Offside blog I thought we could spend the next few Mondays, up until his retirement, honoring and rembering all the awesome things he has done.
I do not even believe that there are enough Mondays in the year for this but I would like the blog and the comments to act as forum to share all the videos, pictures, and statistics to send off arguably the greatest defender of all time, and at times one of the best players the world has ever seen. I will post all the shared stuff so we are sure to have tons of contents for the Monday’s to come.
We will start things off slowly this week with a simple video of Maldini hoisting last year’s Champions League trophy, remember Milan still have a chance to win another, but we can all marvel at the years he has won.

i dont agree, maldini is really up there but the greatest defender in my opinion is no other than the man who trained maldini, Baresi…

^^^Of course Baresi is one of the best but while Baresi trained maldini, I’m sure he took on his own style and technique and wasn’t a robot Baresi or else we would have found him out by now, but anways maldini deserves to be honoured. He’s done so much for Milan its about time somone, (ie. Gianfranco) recognizes that, and allows us fellow maldini mania supporters bast in his glory as he goes out with a big bang.

Roy, Baresi is the greatest the sweeper in the world hands down, but Baresi did not revolutionize the way defense was played, Maldini did that. Baresi had the recipe, Maldini added the secret ingredients.

okay here’s another one of the greatest moments in 2007. and i swear im not lying. im now in Milan, i havent slept in over 40 hours and i feel like a zombie i have to rest so i can go to the San Siro tour tomorrow =). anyway here’s the story, and its not the whole thing, a lot of other amazing stuff happened and been talked about but too tired now to post them.
So after 22 hours of traveling, 0 hours of sleep and only 1 half decent meal(Toronto->Zurich->Milano), i was sitting in a small plane/jet RJ100 going from Zurich to Milano. and im dead tired just staring out the window and i see Seedorf coming in, at first i thought i was hallucinating or something. i was baffled, he actually came to me and shook my hand (i was wearing a milan jacket =D) and for 40 minutes i was chatting with him and some old English dude (im assuming his manger or something like that). i couldnt believe the stuff i was hearing, so surreal. the way he talks about Ancelotti is funny, its like he’s the old grumpy coach, he told him to come early because they had a meeting today at the milanello. and he talked for like 10 minutes straight about Capello, we were reading the newspaper, according to him, he’ll do a great job yada yada yada. he was really interested in Canada and the soccer in Canada. and when we were walking inside the airport, as soon as we got in, oh man airport security were called, people jumped out of nowhere and over the security lines. best thing everyone started to sing “siamo noi..siamo noi..i campioni del mondo siamo noi”.
and in the end i was waiting for my luggage. he passed by and said “see you sunday at the derby” and winked

he speaks fluent English, flawless, i was actually surprised. the other guy was talking about how Italian players dont learn english, out of nowhere without even processing the thought i said “so clearance, you could’ve taught sheva a couple of words instead of letting his………(long pause) WIFE take him to stupid London” seedorf laughed, and the other guy bursted into laughter”

Your welcome Gianfranco and I will keep my eyes open even if i have to hold them open with toothpicks, which at certain times I do like at 3:30 in the morning.

Fetyani, it’s not as if all Europeans are dumbasses who don’t learn english
Italians don’t speak it, but the whole part of europe above italy and spain does. And with Clarence being Dutch…Posted from

Seedorf has also played soccer in many different countries. He is also considered a bit of soccer diplomat or ambassador so I am sure he speaks many more languages than we even think.

that is freakin insane… and the sheva thing was just hilarious… haha
i am in dubai right now and milan will be here in a couple of weeks and I am going to make an effort to “accidentally” run into some of the players… for some pictures and such… and eventhoh im not usually up for autographs.. i think i might want my maldini jersey signed… so i will “coincidentally” be wearing that as well..haha i hope so anyway..
but very cool fetyani.. sounds insane
and gianfranco, its like you are trying to make the rest of us cry every monday.. haha i love it thoh..
