Maldini Monday
By: Gianfranco | May 11th, 2009The AC Milan’s blog art director extraordinaire and Pato Blog writer Ro weighs in on Paolo Maldini…
As a young child I would sit on the couch early on weekend mornings to watch the Milan game with my dad. I was fixated on one person who was charging up and down the field preforming perfect sliding tackles. It’s like the guy has a timer that would go off telling him the exact moment to go in. He has the presence of a God on the field, that makes strikers quiver in their boots as they tried to get around him. That man is set to retire now after 23 years at the end of this season, and to this day he still can keep up with even the youngest of players. Back then I couldn’t fathom hearing Milan with out Maldini, but the time has come where we will have to say good-bye to our legend and Hero. Milan will never be the same without Paolo Maldini leading us into the glory of winning all the Scudettos and Champions League Trophies to come. Paolo Maldini is and always will be Milan. He will and always will be the only Il Capitano Rossonero. The armband will be passed on to someone else but no one will ever wear it like Maldini has. While we are loosing a great player we only have a few more years until the next generation of the Maldini dynasty will hopefully pick up where this one ended.

Very well put Ro, Maldini is simply legendary.. here’s hoping Thiago Silva will go on & prove to be a valid replacement to Il Capitano although we all know no one can touch him. Here’s to Paolo owning Totti, J.Beast and Vucinic in his last home game!

Gian that’s what I thought when I first saw it. I was like what’s he doing then I saw the yellow card and the replay and I’m like uhoh…I guess he wasn’t just playing. I was proud though that he stood up not only for Kaka but showing that Milan weren’t going to take crap from him.

Thanks Samuel!

why didn’t kaka stand up for kaka?

Kaka’ is somewhat of a bitch.. not the kind you’d want on your side in a bar fight. There’s a seven minute clip highlight for the game against Juventus, but none of that Maldini stickin up for Kaka’ stuff.

uh, yeah. i thought it was dorf’s job to take care of kaka’s wet work (smile), but i guess he was on the bench at that point.

But I’m still looking for any clip of the Captain scolding Chiellini. if anyone saw one, please do share.

I commented on this right after the game was finished. Maldini does whatever he needs to do to serve and protect his team. Be it motivator, organizor of the defence, peacemaker or enforcer.
Being captain sometimes means doing what Maldini did and picking up the yellow card for the right reason.
He just picked-up HUGE points in my books.
Good Job Captain!!!Posted from

ps. if anyone read kaka’s interview of wanting gourcuff to return, I will say that the Milan Media Machine have begun their efforts to bring him back home.
Slowly but surely, the ball has begun to roll.

Chiellini’s a bad motherfucker and even he didn’t have the balls to do anything to Paolo. Though i wish il capitano had done that to zanetti or Ibra against the merda…

lmao @Antonio.. I would of loved to see him do that to Zlatan & Ballotelli the biggest duo of douchebags I’ve ever come across in Calcio.. those dudes is always acting up and starting controversy; getting in thier advesaries faces etc. in all Classless behavior. but what else does one expect from a team like Inter?

Ok, I get Ibra and Balotelli, but Zanetti? Who could have any problem with Javier Zanetti?

Maldini could easily play another season. He has been injury free and still looks great. But i guess he wants to go out in good form rather than hang around till he looses his ability.

in case of bar fight, hide behind gattuso…”Yeh, but id run a mile once you’d won the fight in case he gave you the post-win celebration he often gives carlo

This one’s decent if you run it in HQ. Make sure you do so you can see how petrified Chiellini looks when Paolo stares him down with those hypno eyes of his.

Anyone else have any good videos of it? I didn’t get to see the incident when it happened.

Also, this is one of my favorite pictures that comes up on my screen saver.

Just really cool to see how jacked and in-better-shape-than-everyone he looks. Beckham’s like “Shit, I really need to listen to this guy.”

Man, the look on Chiellini’s face was priceless. I loved how they didn’t even replay the Kaka/Chiellini incident, only Paolo snapping and Chiellini terrified.

Lovely to see that though. He really knows how to put people in their place. Sometimes,he shuts the other person up with a few words, and with some idiots like Chiellini,he shows them who’s boss. Love him,and will surely miss him.

Nice Blog! Is anyone planning to travel to watch Maldini’s last match against Roma??

I think Chiellini must have said something quite bad for Maldini to react that way, unless il Capitano is going crazy in his old age, i don’;t think he would have done it for nothing. i guess he was probly just telling him not to act that way and be a proper, respectful italian defender. As much as i hate Juve, i think the national team and Chiellini have a good future
