in fairness the commentator said it before the match yesterday – something along the lines of “Abate will have a point to prove after Ancelotti ruled out a future for him at milan”. And he certainly failed to prove a point.

although goal.com did sensationalize what carlo said, there definitely is a subliminal message in it. carlo pulled the same crap with foggia, saying he was a wide player therefore we didn’t need him. he eventually left for lazio.

i remember the days where serginho was a game changer for us, his speed and width down the left was a great alternative for carlo when he needed to change the game. i wonder why abate [or foggia] cannot be this supersub?

but in all fairness, i do not think abate is that great. does he have room for improvement? yes. does he deserve a starting spot? no. does he deserve a chance? definitely yes.

I personally think that abate is better than foggia was at that age. And he is physically much stronger too.

Ive got to say, i planned to single out Abate yesterday and almost missed him

True he could have had an off day but i couldnt see anything special about him

But i think if you want a player to raise his game you give him an opportunity to raise his game NOT publicly slight him

Maybe Abates low-par performance yesterday is linked to Carlo’s words of encouragement??

Avia, how did ancelotti publicly slight him?

Gian is accused of having brazil goggles, but Avia, you have some ancelotti goggles!

He had a few good runs, but our midfield was running things too well and the ball was barely getting to the three torino attacking players.

Fg – Here’s the italian version from acmilan.com

“Abate è cresciuto molto potrebbe essere nella nostra rosa, l’unica sua difficoltà potrebbe essere legata al fatto che il Milan non prevede l’esterno alto’.”

k – take of the Ancelotti Seatbelt! Nothing bad will happen!

Im referring to the comment Carlo made a day prior to the match at Milanello

In response to the progress of Abate to mention that a winger wont suit our setup is kind of a numbskull move, why not say that the kid is good and shows alot of potential??

Coz he has a Crapdorf fetish!

    *sigh*

ps. this is the original quote from the press conference before the game.

“Abate has grown a lot, he could be in our squad, his only problem is that Milan usually don’t play with wide players.”

Please, highlight the part that is, firstly, UNTRUE. Is it the growing part or is the fact that we dont play with wide midfielders?

Secondly, highlight the part that is “slighting.” Is it the growing part? Or is it the fact that we dont play with wide midfielders.

Avia, so far you have blamed ancelotti for bad performances from everyone from ronaldinho to kaka and have blamed him for viudez (a fetish that is on this board, and one that I will not understand. And all this from what, Youtube highlights?!)

But at least until now you have blamed him for players he controls. His team. AC Milan squad.

You have now taken the liberty to actually blame him for the non-performance of a player that is not on his team.

Whats next, Ancelotti is the reason Italy lost in the Euros? Did he cause 9/11? Did he also kill JFK? And Abraham Lincoln?!

    syed – in english

“Abate has grown a lot, he could be in our squad, his only problem is that Milan usually don’t play with wide players”

why the FFFFFF add the bit at the end of that sentence??

We need an injection of youth and a player that even Fester has publicly name dropped to return is being contradicted!

Way to knock the kids confidence Carlo!

And he aint even playing under you yet! Now THATS a special assed skill!

    Dude!

We need this youth to come running back to Milan, if you were Abate/Cuffy and watching some of the other youngsters not even getting time on the bench whats to stop them walking over to Turin or Rome???

Why not simply praise a player???
    Why so hard??

U normally see other coaches trying to Woo talent to come join but Carlo seems to go out of his way to want to keep them at arms length!

So you think that since he mentioned the FACT that Milan doesnt play with wide midfielders resulted in Abate having a bad game against Milan?

If a player is so bothered by the fact that the opposing coach and possibly your future coach said that Milan plays with wide midfielders and that you as a player has shown some real growth, then how exactly will he have the mental strength to wear the rossoneri colors?

    No!

Your totally missing my point, MAYBE Abate DOESNT indeed fit our system but worry about that in PRIVATE!

    Let the kid grow damnit!

I would rather see Abate go to another team coz we chose not to bring him back NOT coz he chose to give us the finger!!

    Avia.

“Why not simply praise a player???
    Why so hard??”

Ancelotti: “Abate has grown a lot”

    —-

    seriously.

“We need this youth to come running back to Milan, if you were Abate/Cuffy and watching some of the other youngsters not even getting time on the bench whats to stop them walking over to Turin or Rome???”

    —–

Ancelotti has time and again said that Abate and Gourcuff have grown a lot. Whats stopping them from walking over to Turin or Rome? Well, ask palladino, criscito, amelia and even giovinco.

And, lets not forget that if they are watching, and seeing pato play, they will know that if they are good enough they will play. And besides, they are like 22 now, I dont think its that young anymore.

Yeah, maybe he didnt need to say that. But you dont know the question he was asked. It could have been “Why didnt you bring back abate last year?” to which his answer was “Abate has grown a lot in the past year, and could have been in our squad, but his only problem is that Milan doesnt play with wide midfielders.”

Amazingly avia, the more i read that quote, the better I think Abate should feel about it. Ancelotti is basically saying that abate is a good player and his only negative aspect is not even related to his gameplay, just that Milan doesnt play with wide midfielders.

And if we wanted abate back, Avia, we would get him back. He is not stupid enough to not come back to the club he has been with for his youth years, and is the calibre of Milan because of some stupid misrepresented quote

I get what you are saying but he needs to shut the fat mouth a half sentence sooner!

He gives a little praise but then seems to take it back

What the heck is he going to do if the doesn’t get the players he wants??

Hasnt Fester publicly stated that the future of this squad is going to be based on younger talent currently farmed out being reeled back in?

Carlo imo is gona struggle with a batch of non Crapdorfs running about

Please bear in mind the average age of this squad, 22 IS young for this squad!

im by no stretch of the imagination an expert on tactics, but when we play the x-mas tree, while they may not be wing players, pato or kaka do usually wind up on the wings, right? And beckham is known for his crosses from the wing. Abate cannot play RM or behind the striker? Is he really only suitable to play out wide all game long?

yeah, 22 is young for this team, but my point was that the players are 22 and arent kids any more and dont need to be baby-ed all the time.

And he never did say he doesnt want abate. He could just as easily slot him in as a wingback since torino has actually played him there on multiple occasions. Its not like he hasnt dealt with wide players before. Serginho was wonderful for us and forsee a similar role for abate.

lol @Avia, but K seriously if Ancelotti ever needs a lawyer & you’re around he’ll never lose a case. I throughly enjoyed watching you two go at it. In my opinion though Cuffy & Abate must be brought back whether Ancelotti likes it or not!
