Maldini Monday

By: Gianfranco | April 13th, 2009

Special thanks to Fetyani for making this a reality. As many of you may or may not a few years back a film was created, simply called Paolo Maldini Il Film. The film chronicled one of the greatest players ever to play the game, and quite easily the greatest defender to ever walk the Earth. The film was made prior to the 2007 CL Win which makes it all the more amazing and we are going to share some that with you here.

Alex, we have shared a fair amount of pieces of the film and you can look through Maldini Monday’s past to see many clips. Pasting the whole film though is a bad idea for copyright reasons…

I hate to say it but I feel it is a good thing he retires now. Better he retires a champion.

This way Milan will finally start looking forward instead of relying on the grandfathers of a golden age. For one recalling Paloschi for next season I think is a great step, using Flamini in Gattuso’s place invigorates the midfield, Pato up front and maybe the return of Borriello are all good things.

Zambrotta has got one good season left in him so they must look to reinvigorate their defense if they are to make any serious challenge in the Champions League. Zambrotta’s legs just don’t take him far up the field as quickly as in the past and a replacement for Seedorf is much needed, Ronaldihno should be in his place yet still he finds it hard to make the field.

I’d like to see Milan make a statement on their return to the Champions League next campaign.

Dinho is having trouble making it onto the field because of Ancelotti, not Seedorf…

fifaguy, i have to disagree, if the guy was doing something above and beyond Seedorf you would think he would earn the start, but it seems as though he has not, no one to blame really but himself. Again we are not in training so we don’t know but the reporst and remarks regarding his work ethic are far from complimnetary…

Come on, for the last few games, every time Dinho comes on, he has been excellent, I highly doubt that he does so terrible in training that he can’t eve start a game. Fuck Seedorf

Gian, you are not seriously comparing Ronaldinho’s form this year to Seedorfs. i know Ronnie isnt the paciest guy around anymore but he’s made things happen. most of the time when given the chance he’s either scored or contributed to a team goal. unlike Dorf who simply has been pedestrian coupled with horrendous passing for most of the year. and to finish Ronaldinho played two fantastic derbies, Seedorf played one..

If you apply the standard “you’re only as good as your last game” thing to seedorf, he should be sitting at the end of the bench. heck, gian, you even said yourself last week that ronnie should have been given the start against chievo. instead, aside from the goal, dorf sleep walked though the entire game. needless to say, the goal was nice but dorf’s primary role is not to score, but to do other things. he ain’t been doing them very well lately…

I am by no means comparing seedorf to Dinho, and in fact you would be comparing bad to worse. I do think Dinho earned the start last match, but I think we put a lot of blame at times on Carletto when the player maybe is not helping his own cause…

in the system we play, ronaldino cannot be considered a like for like replacement for seedorf’s position.

irrespective of form, seedorf still runs to both ends of the field, and he helps cover in defense as well.

it is for that reason he is picked over ronaldinho.

i agree that they are not interchangeable, but given how pathetic our offense has been of late i think it best to insert more offensive punch at the expense of whatever (little imo) defense seedorf provides. maybe with ronnie in pato can score again…

So if most of you agree on shit seedorf i have to ask once more for reasonable explanation why one of the best coaches in the world(the most tropheys) is using dorf in first team on your opinion guys?I said reasonable so forget naked pics, videos etc..

pera, seedorf is the only player on our team, besides pirlo, who can interpret a midfield role as both attacking and defending.

btw, i’m not defending seedorf, i’m just shedding light to your question.

All i gotta say is that dinho is a former world player of the year, galliani and berlusconi’s media darling and their pet project they have tried to get for over 2 years.

The pressure on Ancelotti to start him is absolutely immense. The fact that he doesnt speaks miles about what dinho is able to offer this team on a regular basis. Obviously, like gian said earlier, we are not in training so we dont know whats going on.

I think flamini is still learning and until we either get him up to speed and/or get gattuso back starting dinho will only cause imbalance in our midfield. We need a defensive beast in midfield to counter the lack of defensive work from dinho. While seedorf will not provide as much going forward he can provide more at the defence. For a team getting torn apart on the counter, this is extremely important.

So, bottom line, we cant (assumingly) start him all the time because of his lack of defensive effort, but also, because our midfield and defense arent strong enough to handle that. Next year, with silva around and more defensive reinforcements, flamini with a year of experience and gattuso back, I think the situation will change.

my point was that if ancelotti had a slight reason to play him, he would. Just based on how much pressure there is on him from berlusconi and galliani.

Either that or Ancelotti has a lot more balls than people give him credit for.

given that there’s so little depth in Pirlo’s position & Sporting relatively poor CL fortunes the summer market would be a great time for Fester to give Creative but defensively liable players like Veloso and Moutinho a look. as I’ve probably mentioned before I’d like to see at least one of them here at Milan soon.

when your defenders are old and get torn apart by attackers, the best way to help them is to put the ball in the other team’s net and keep the ball in the oppositions half. Look at Barca, I swear their defenders will get slaughtered if the opposition ever had the ball, for example the Athletico Madrid game where Aguero and company exposed how weak the defense is. The way that Pep counters this isn’t by bringing on more defensive midfielders or dropping people back, he attacks the other team ruthlessly so his defenders ca relax, if the opposition is defending all of the time, your defense won’t look that bad. A team like Milan has Kaka, Pato, and Dinho and you’re telling me they can’t attack?

Zito, sometimes its not about the stars but the supporting cast, but there are NO supporting players in Barca, its not just Messi-Eto-Henry (or Ka-Pa-Ro in Milan’s case) but Xavi, Iniesta and YaYa. Plus some Brazilian benchwarmer on the right. Those three out of four can build their own trio – Xastaves or Alviniexa (even sound Catalonian). Add Keita, Hleb and Bojan – and they look downright invincible. Few other team can boast such phenomenal squad; what else – this guys are at their peaks ATM. Something we can’t really say about our trio.
I’m not taking it from Pirlo, Rino, Ambro and Flamini but attacking flair players they are not. And when we see any three of these guys on the field at the same time, Milan attacking options are limited – three aforementioned players don’t add up to the effort of the attacking line. I mean they try, but the output vs energy is minimal.
We look great on the paper, not so much in reality.
