Maldini Monday

By: Gianfranco | February 16th, 2009

I don’t plan on recapping the match right here, that will come later, but I do want to say that the look on Paolo’s face at the end of the match was more than enough. I still see the look of desperation and loss on his face, and can’t help but feel that for all he has done this squad is giving him nothing in return for his final season.

Even the Inter fans, who at times have been quite notorious, paid their respect to the World’s Greatest Defender…

Inter fans greeted the entrance on the pitch of the Milan team with the ‘usual’ jeers, except for one player: Paolo Maldini.

The Rossoneri’s captain was in fact welcomed to San Siro by a very respectful banner displayed by the Nerazzurri supporters. The message on the banner said ‘Per 20 anni nostro rivale, ma nella vita sempre leale’ (For 20 years our opponent, but in life always loyal).

Maldini showed that he appreciated this message by applauding the Inter fans who responded by applauding back to the Italian legend.

This will be his final Derby della Madonnina, after playing in total 55 games against Inter, before he retires at the end of the season, and this episode proved yet again how respected Maldini is all over Italy by all fans of all teams.

Kala really should’ve of been taken off at halftime, but we had already conceded two and its amazing how no one has complained about Pirlo’s performances of late. he has been in a sad state to say the least. im absolutely gutted about Nesta because its hard enough losing Maldini at the end of the season and losing out on him also makes it even harder to swallow. we need to make some moves in the summer, bring in Mexes, Gourcuff and Veloso. and dump out the thrash. you already know who they are.

MAD, how many times are you going to say karma? Take it and shove it up your ass. It doesn’t really matter to me that we lost this derby, what matters is that Milan are flat out better than Inter, with more titles, better players, better fans and a better history.

milan 4 life, why dont we just buy casillas, xavi, robinho, and the rest of the best players of the world as well? I understand your point, but please understand that is a lofty shopping list with highly unreasonable payers or not even needed. GRossi, and a good young CB, plus a versatile winger linke Abate back home is more than enough for this team. The bottom line is cohesion, and this team has none…

MAD at least we’ve never had to win a derby on account of a pathetic handball, and the difference between our clubs isn’t very difficult to see. just take a look at both trophy cabinets, and since you pathetic fans rarely wake up to the light of day after a derby victory over Milan; ill forgive your excitement. cant wait till United thrash you in a competition where real teams excell.

I don’t know. Last derby it took a week to get rid of you guys. I’ll play it by ear.

But I don’t think that your Karma is going to fit up my ass. I mean, my ass is a decent size, but you still have quite a bit of Karma coming to you…

If Milan were better than Inter they would be higher in the standings, wouldn’t they, instead of 11 points back?

Well, the interesting thing about your titles is that we, a younger team, are edging up on one of them very, very soon. Better players? Not according to lots of people that I respect a whole lot more than you, so you can keep your delusion, on that one.

Better fans, well they certainly can’t take losing without threats that’s for certain. Say is it against Offside rules to threaten someone? I wonder if Gian or any of the mods will do something. I bet they won’t.

As far as history goes, if it wasn’t for the 90’s you wouldn’t have a history. So keep your precious decade, will take the other 90 years.

Adrianos goal stands and some how this is disallowed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efL77pV_SCQ

Eventhough adriano’s was more blatant and the fact that the ball was no where on target if it werent for his hand.

If Kaladze really felt he was rusty, then he should have called himself off. He is been playing for some time and he should know. If he really felt he could not keep up he must have known that he put his team in jeopardy. Perhaps Ancelotti thought he would give his team a boost with bringing Kaladze. The substitution was merely because Kaladze got tired. I do not believe that Ancelotti admitted to a mistake. As much as I like Nesta, what do you believe would have happened if he played miracolously from the start. Then we woul have seen to greats being schooled. Better it was Kaladze who looked stupid throughout the match.

I aso like Pirlo but don’t any of you guys feel he played like girl? I thought he looked really silly whenever he lost posession and tried to get it back from the bigger and much stronger opponents.

given that most folks said we had no chance with kaka out, i think the showing was quite acceptable. most of the guys played hard and well. the problems were the same ones that have plagued the team all year – age, not enough depth in some spots, issues with offensive tactics/formations. all of these things can be fixed.

Yep, whatever you say MAD, keep living in that sick, twisted dream world of yours.

fifaguy, I wholeheartedly agree with you there. For missing Kaka, and Rino losing 2-1 on a garbage handball was not bad. We did put out a pretty good show, except for the defensive errors. We had some good passing and possession, and really piled on the pressure at times. If we just tweaked things a little bit we would be great again.

MAD name just reflects his feelings on account of Inter’s poor history, so lets cut him some slack. I believe in my team so im gonna say we’ll win the Uefa Cup this year. what do you guys think our chances are? and @ASL Nesta on his wrecked back would of managed to do better than Kaladhze, and finding the cause of Pirlo’s dreadful form is beyond me.

the man looks like he’s sleep walking on the pitch, i don’t know what it is thats causing him to play horribly but he needs to sort it out quickly. he is vital to this team his lack of Involvement yesterday on a defensive point of view allowed Stankovic to double Inters lead. Our attacking play is centered around him but yesterday he was not only was he nowhere to be found, took to much time on the ball and was constantly dispossed. feel free to disagree but be ready to cite one positive play of his.

Abbiatti, Pato, Ronaldinho & Pippo were the only man to stand out in that game yesterday, and not only play for Maldini but also to save our season. the rest simply played like they didnt give a danm and some settled for the usual average performance we’ve grown accustomed to seeing; and to do that on Maldini’s last game is sad. thats why this result still hurts, the lads played with little conviction out there until the last 20 minutes they never looked like they’d take anything from that game.

MAD, you know as well as I do that I do not condone personal abuse in the force of racial, or even mental defamation. However, the threatens are more or less idle, and you I know both know that it sometimes comes with the territory of internet banter. We both know full well when we mix up with the Roman Wackjobs what we are getting ourselves into, and I would consider what has gone on here to pretty tame considering. If you are threatned at all, and the person is your neighbor, contact your local authorties, but we are both old enough to know that this is harmless banter. I have always respected you as an Inter fan and will continue to do so, and again my apologies if you feel “threatened” but you know things go around the offside, and unless you are being defamed in any of the ways mentioned above I maintain free speech for you and the rest of the comments.

well while most of us are still mourning the Derby result, I just wanted to bring you back to reality. We play Werder Bremen in Midweek! and our current state of affairs aren’t the best going into this one but its gonna be an entertaining one for sure. any word or update on Kaka’s Injury?

just finished watchn yesterdays replay and i think we will do well against werder midweek.

Carlo, please for the love of God play two strikers!

We were simply unlucky yesterday, a draw would have been the right result but we could easily have won it if it wasnt for the fact that the merda had an extra man on the field ( i think rosetti is his name?)

    Samuel – Kaka isnt gona feature midweek, offical list of players for the match;

Abbiati, Dida, Perucchini (50), Antonini, Bonera, Darmian, Favalli, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Maldini, Senderos, Zambrotta, Ambrosini, Beckham, Flamini, Pirlo, Seedorf, Inzaghi, Pato, Ronaldinho.

lol @ MAD 4 cryin to Gian btw!

I will stick up for Pirlo’s play. I thought he did all the things we have come to expect from him, he led the attack from the back very well and I thought we were the more dominant and flowing side for good portions of the game because of his play. In fact, I thought he looked more in form and lively than he has all season. Funny how perception is. We all know that Pirlo will turn the ball over on occasion and that he isn’t the strongest defensively, these are trade-offs that you have to take from him. Having him play the “Pirlo” role requires a strong central defense at the back and at least 1 mid for defensive support . When you don’t have that, Pirlo’s flaws will be exposed. I have argued all season that with our weak central defense Pirlo is a luxury that the team can’t support properly and that overall we would be better served with someone like Gattuso(injured), Flamini, or even Seedorf in the deep lying midfield role. So, though I thought Pirlo played very well, flanking him with Beckham and Ambro and with an out of form Kaladze pairing Maldini was just asking for trouble against a team with a strong attack. Pirlo+strong team=better team. Pirlo+weak team=worse team??

@Peter. I think you are right. This is not what I meant. I thought he lookes silly when being dispossed and trying to get that ball back. There were two or three occasions when he was kind of body checking his opponent and trying to be aggresive. But he didn’t cause any harm he more or less got shoved aside. He only bounced off himself. That looked a bit girly. I didn’t want to start complaining about him.

@Samuel. I still like his vision. It was very obvious yesterday. There might not have been any through passes that led to shots at Inters goal. However, most of his passes opened the attcking game and created space for his teammates

Concerning the UEFA Cup on Wednesday: Werder is playing a very poor season for their standards. They do have problems inside the team as Diego pretty much split the team. Frings, suspended on Wednesday, is on a low. The offensive game, the best part of Werder for the last couple of years, is not rolling. Plus, their goalkeeper is always good for a blunder. However, they should not be underestimated as they have beaten Inter at home this season in order to get to the UEFA Cup. We must try to control Pizzaro, Özil and Diego. Then we should be fine. Don’t know if you know Mertesacker. He is the best German CB. I was hoping Milan would go for him last summer…

ASL – i kno exactly what u mean regarding Pirlo, i was thinkn the exact same thing watchn Pirlo bounce of Muntari like a little kid.

Peter – tru that he needs to be flanked by Rino or Flamini at all times but this is letting him off for his performance yesterday, u just looked like he couldnt be assed!

But your argument makes me think that he’s a liabilty, in that, if there is no Rino/Flamini that it isnt worth fielding Pirlo??

I think Dino and even Seedorf helpd start more offensive moves than Pirlo did last nite

I wish Carlo hadnt bitched out, he should have taken off Pirlo and put Flamini on and left the ‘Pirlo’ work to both Dino the the Dorf imo.

Goin back to defence and the injection of youth, doesnt anyone think that we need more a beast/rock in the CB along with Silva next season??

Im thinkn someone more in the Jaap Stam mould as opposed to two young bucks guarding Abbiati?????
