Maldini Monday

By: Gianfranco | December 15th, 2008

I am not really in the right mindset to celebrate a Maldini Monday after yesterday’s loss. In fact I am still rather frustrated with the team’s performance and am struggling to put a lot of that down on paper. However I did manage to take one optimistic moment from yesterday’s game, and though not influential or not even all that special, watching Maldini dispossess DiCeglie so simply and matter of factly was a treat considering that Maldini is almost twice his age yet is still capable of the simple sweet tackle, when his teammates are not.

We were also treated yesterday to the site of two club icons taking the field together, not just captains but ambassadors for their team and the Serie A. Maldini has no equal, but if I had to compare him to someone, ADP is that man. He has been through thick and thin with Juventus: Serie B, bench time, injuries, and potential sales. This man continued to wear the Black and white in a way that reminds you of Il Capitano in every way.

Yes Juventus won the match, and yes Milan was quite frankly played off the pitch, but when your 40+ year old is captain is still giving what we can wherever he was needed, and his teammates letting him down, both in the match and seemingly in the season, it makes me wonder why he keeps on giving.

Forza Paolo, I wish this season goes the way you deserve it to…

..additional problems on the offensive end such as Ronaldinho sending countless passes from the left side toward the box, most of which never hit their target for one reason or another.

Everytime Milan got back into the game, and they did get back in it and were even superior at times, they managed to screw up straight away.

Agreed on dinho’s cross field passes though in his defense, he was sold short by pato and zambrotta on two of them and the rest didn’t cost Milan the game. He also setup every Milan chance in the game.

I predict that Milan won;t lose any time soon, I yhink the worst is behind, and they’ll end up finisng a close second.

    A. – I didn’t mean to imply that Ronnie’s passed sucked; for the most part they didn’t. But, as we know, his game is based on the target players moving and anticipating his passes; if they don’t then it looks like he f–d up.

Man i haven’t felt this bad since we were knocked out of the CL last season. It’s probarbly because on both occasions my heart ruled over my head and i thought our boys would win, in fact it’s the same for every game we play. Lets just hope we can win against the zebrette and recover some players over the break. Even the thought of Borriello coming back isn’t making me any happier because i don’t when it will be and how long he will stay for.

You know what, i can’t believe im saying this, but maybe its time to expriment with a non Italian coach… maybe. I know when you look back at our invincible sides they were run by Sacchi and Capello, but Carlo just seems to have lost everyone and im sick of seeing Emerson, Favalli and Seedorf. I would just love to see us attack and score, even if we let a few in while the defence gets fixed up and lets be honest, it would be no different to what we’re seeing now from our backline. Dare i say it, we probarbly could use someone a little like Mourinho who would tell Galliani to fuck off when he had to. Mind you i don’t know for how long he would have a job after that, but i’d love to see it anyway

@ fifaguy – I couldn’t have put it better. R80 needs MOVING targets that can ANTICIPATE where ball is going before it get there.

Our team absolutely SUCKS at this. Therefore, as you rightly mentioned, R80 at times looks like he’s passing to no one. When in reality if the team could read what he’s trying to do the pass is brilliant.

…this is the sort of thing that should be well honed from practice. what exactly does Milan do in practice anyway? hard to know from what is written on their website.

i missed the game as i was away but watching the highlights afterwards made me assumme that our defence really needs help they gave amuari all the space he wanted!! and his last goal was a beauty and joy to watch for juve fans and an embarrasement to any milan fan on the planet. Pato’s goal and nutmeg did put a smile on my face and ambrosini’s strike gave me hope but we just had to give amuari acres of space to chest a ball down pass it back to sissoko and slam the ball into the net to kill the game> Where is the consitency for me scudetto hopes are over and anything more than a fourth place finish is a bonus ciao.

and by the way if you are wondering the nutmeg was done on nedved look it up it made my day, and on other news leonardo technical director right now i think really loves milan and hopes to one day coach, can this happen any quicker? he states milan as the first priority but wouldn’t mind coaching brazil either. he should take over from ancelotti next year in my opinion. he has also officially become an official italian citizen today..sweet and arsenal are after Pato again just google his name and click news to check for yourself. heres leonardo’s news: http://www.goal.com/en/news/1708/ac-milan/2008/12/15/1014086/former-milan-star-leonardo-sets-sights-on-coaching-role

Leonardo is bad bad choice, he is the same guy scouting or youth team, which is nothing to write home to mom about…no experience, not a good eye for talent, other than Kaka and possibly Pato still to early to tell. Would much rather someone else, heck I would take Mancini over him…

He also has absolutely zero managerial experience, which isn’t a good thing (especially for a club whose owner fancies his tactical nous).

Now we have Galliani and Ancelotti publicly contradicting each other over whether Kaka is injured or not (Galliani yes, Ancelotti no). It hasn’t been a good week at Milanello.

Why stop at a week Ursus, the San Siro circus has been going strong since the “purchase” of Adebayor and then the “arrival” of Ronaldinho. Pretty soon the we will have the world’s handsomest ring three attraction in David Beckham and the circus will continue, without trophies or a shred of dignity…IT IS EMBARASSING…

    Hi Gian,

Read over your recent posts and wanted to go over some of the good stuff u write recently but sunday has knocked the stuffn outta me!

Got to say, if im honest i was apprehensive before our defeat 2 sundays ago and i didnt really have a good feelin before the juve match.

Evry1 is just plain suckn at the moment ( i kno thats not really constructive!)

Our defnce, mid and attack and coach just more than just lacked what was needed.

Why Seedorf even gets a start nowadays is completly beyond me.

Janks & Kaladze shood both be publicly crucified imo.

and what the hecks up with pato!!!!!!!!

How many times did he find himself on the edge of the box and suddnely he decides to take the hard way into the box!!!

Ambro/Dino were the only brite sparks in the match but its more than obviuos that this squad is def not playn as a TEAM!

Theres no way u can defend Carlo now, this has got 2b his last season!

    Milan = STATIC.

    STATICITY = big problem.

Solution -> get rid of useless static players (i.e. Seedorf, Emerson).

Let’s say Milan was an 8 cylinder car. Without Kaka, the car is pretty much a 2 cylinder car.

Wow, Now Silvio says that Milan’s main objective is to retain a CL spot for next year. Or as C4 puts it:
Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi has effectively given up on the Scudetto. “Our objective is to get back into the Champions League.â€

    http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/dec16s.html

That seems a little harsh. Roma came back from more than 9 points last season. Do you think his attitude will affect any mercato plans the club may have? That is, do you think that Berlusconi will be more likely to hold off on purchases until the summer?
