Tuesday Milan Musings

By: Gianfranco | February 5th, 2008

I know my recap is a little late but I want to get the space and time they deserve. I was also waiting on more news regarding everyone’s favorite duck, Pato and his, what someone has called horrific ankle injury. We have at one point or another rolled our ankles in the midst of a soccer game and boy oh boy does it hurt like heck, but unless you hear a crack! you are usually stuck with a ankle that looks like a sausage and a week or two on the couch with some ice. With that being said Pato’s sprain looked pretty bad but he is young and will heal quicker than the rest of the squad. Problem is quick may last as long as a month.

Back to the game yesterday, it was freaking ugly, chippy, and a fairly poor display. Almost every player on the pitch had a brief flash of good play surrounded by many flashes of poor play. Except for poor old Ujafalusi, who is a great player, who just had a howler, but he was matched by the likes of Seedorf who never got going. Speaking of Seedorf what was all about his hissy fit as he left the pitch? There is no room for that poor attitude, especially when you are in the twilight of your career. This is a team people not a one man show.

Great games by Kalac, Pirlo, and Emerson (yes I said it, but I was gritting my teeth the whole teeth). Kalac is making Dida an afterthought, and as long as the Aussie keeps stopping shots like the one that ended the game today, I do not care if I never see Dida again. A win is a win; I just hope they do not have to be grinded out like this one. Where do the Rossoneri go from here…

Striker shopping? Oh wait windows closed, thanks a lot baldy. Get used to the xmas tree because there may not be enough strikers around to fill in the games that are on the schedule. I hope Willy Aubamayeng is ready, and I hope Carletto is ready to call upon him and maybe even Gourcuff. I have no arguments playing Kaka as striker and Gourcuff behind, in times of a trouble a great tactician gets creative. I know Carletto is a great tactician, but is there any gas left in the tank?

Congrats to Borriello and his first Azzuri call up. I wish he was still at the San Siro because he would solve a fair amount of problems, 12 goals worth to be exact. As for the rest of the Azzuri, this may be the only time that I do not wish them to play. The Don can play all the Juventini, Romani, and Interista (oops sorry there is only one) that he wants because the Rossoneri need a break.

I did not want to do this but people have asked…

I believe Polaschi is better than Aubamayeng, he moves a lot more and keeps the defense running after him. we’ll probably see the christmas tree, and hopefully with Gourcuff playing instead of Ambro or Brocchi which will help the forward a lot with his sprints and activity. he can either start and get substituted if we’re winning or come in if we need a goal badly, i hope its the first. he always has an impact on the team.

i dont think the Kaka “out for 4 months rumor” is completely true. if he’s out for the rest of the season, im sure we would’ve heard about Galliani’s stroke by now.

the only good news in all this mess is our situation in the serie a table. 4 pts from Viola with a game in hand, and getting close to 3rd spot. glass half full :)

Good optimism Fetyani, as for Kaka it sounds like tendinitis to me, and that heals with rest but like you said if he was out four months Milanello would be burning.

yah gianfranco, i always wanted Rossi in Milan. not only that, he is a Milanista, always wanted to play for Milan. i still dont know why we didnt go after him, he even said a while a go that he wanted to play for any big club in Italy, but no one approached him.

but id rather see Benzema, but Rossi would still be a great signing. and Galliani just pissed me off even more today “I have said before and I repeat that Milan’s goalkeepers for next year will be Kalac and Dida or Dida and Kalac if you prefer.”

even though Kalac is doing pretty good, but we dont want good, we must get the best. im leaning towards Amelia. same issue with Amelia, he wants to leave just waiting to get picked.

rossi would have been awesome… i think all of us wanted rossi at milan but it just never happened… i would like to think that it might happen this summer, but some how i doubt that…
i am not so sure on amelia anymore… i think we could do better…

Fetyani you made me choke on my water from laughing when you said if kaka was out for four months i’m sure we would have heard about galliani’s stroke…which is true very true old uncle fester wouldn’t know what to do with himself….You also sound like a friend of mine Raff that wants amelia so bad it isn’t even funny…that’s all he can talk about…What about that other goalie we have Coppola or what ever hows he doing? Is there a poss. to bring him back if he wants?

Wondering how the latest hoopla in the Italian political circus will affect us…Uncle Silvio is all set to come back to power in April - maybe that will open his pockets for the summer transfer window!

Well Sam that is definitely why it did not open in the winter, a considerable amount of money was invested to put him in this position. I am interested to see if Milan has been more successful with him in power, or not. One CL as president, and one as not, so it is tough to tell but I will try to do some more digging on a post later this week. As for Amelia I DO NOT UNDERSTAND the reluctance of anyone getting this guy between the pipes, is there something that I am not seeing?? This is the incumbent to Gigi Buffon, who has tons of upside and potential, and as well all know goalies in Italy get better with age so imagine the growth that comes with experience. Also snapping up Amelia is akin to making an investment in the Azzuri, if you put him in net for a club like AC Milan he will get top notch experience in cups and games that will only make him better at handling pressure and big games, frankly it is a NO BRAINER!

anyone else getting worried just a tad about Kaka!!? =S nothing official is out, so i dont want to get ahead of myself.

in other news, Blatter wants to implement the 5+6 rule

“very starting eleven in club football must feature at least six players eligible to play for the national team where that club is based. The other five can be as foreign as they like, there just cant be any more than five of them”

could be implemented as soon as next August. Milan wont get hurt that bad, but Inter will :D

Fetyani, I think it is an amazing rule by Blatter, and in all honestly will only heighten the level play of international competition forcing more players into the pool for national team spots, oh those poor INTERISTA bastards.

In other news, the Zambro rumors are getting more and more deliberate, and if he goes anywhere it will certainly be to Milan, welcoming a champion is no problem for me, especially at a time where we could use his services on the flanks. Wing back is a VERY demanding position and having four good ones: Oddo, Janks, Zambro, and Simic at your disposal is a fantastic plus.

Also Didier Drogba, is really pushing this Milan move this summer, and if anyone has seen him at the African Cup of Nations I say we would be insane not to take him on. I know you all know how much I like him already, but this guy is an animal, goals, assists, leadership, there is nothing that he can not do. I have said it once and I will say it again my Drogba Rossoneri jersey will be purchased instantly upon potential announcement, he makes you an instant winner, coupled with the rest of the players, makes a scary scary scary squad.

except for the fact that, i just dont think that amelia could or would ever be as good as buffon… but ofcourse that could be only me…

i highly doubt that the rule by blatter will take effect… it just seems really unlikely and that a lot of teams will protest against this rule, and i am relatively certain that milan will be one of those teams…

i am gettin concerned about the injury crisis we have on hand, as we inch closer to the arsenal game… it is going to take a monumental effort to beat this team and we need all our guns ready and blazing…

they asked Zmabro today if he is looking for a place in Milano, he said smiling i already have a place there in Como. lol

and some other news about Kaka & Pato from gazzetta “Pato-Kakà ok per l’Arsenal” finally something good. but im still waiting to hear it from the players or anything officials.

we just need a few changes and we can be great. players want to come to Milan, the least the transfer guru can do is just show interest. how did we miss both Crespo & Ibra, ill never know. Drogba said today “Next summer I will leave London and my future is Barcelona or Milan”

I’m not sure I support the Blatter ruling. While you have a point Gianfranco, having players abroad isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and I feel the minimum of 6 players is a bit much. Maybe 5? 4? I’ll have to sleep on it. In any case, I’m with k, I doubt it’s gonna go through.

Erm..If anyone is going to get completely screwed by that new rule, it’s Arsenal. Not one single player (can’t count Walcott) that’s English and in the starting 11. Pity, I like Arsenal too (Even if I hope we demolish them during the CL..which is looking more and more unlikely with all these injuries. Gotta dream though.) Inter at least has Materazzi..and..Materazzi? Wow, I suppose they’re screwed too. Awesome. That makes everything much better.

from my previous post it’s supposed to be gazetta sorry…

    also

aka’s spokesman may not be so sure, but Milan’s fitness staff are confident the Balon d’Or winner and Alexandre Pato will be ready to face Arsenal.

The presence of the two Brazilians in this Champions League clash was put in doubt by recent injury worries.

Pato turned his ankle on the turf during Sunday’s 1-0 victory at Fiorentina, while Kaka’s spokesman Diego Kotscho warns a knee problem has been dragging on for months and “he probably will not be fielded against Arsenal.”

However, a very different opinion has been proffered by MilanLab co-ordinator Jean Pierre Meersseman.

“Pato is much better today. Up until yesterday he was walking with the aid of crutches, but now he can walk without feeling any pain,” he told Milan Channel.

“We are confident of his recovery time. Up until yesterday we thought it would take two or three weeks, but now I think within a fortnight he can be recovered and ready for the match with Arsenal.”

There were fears Pato had damaged ligaments or even fractured his ankle when he caught his studs in the turf.

“Pato was certainly very frightened, as it was his first injury and came after scoring a fantastic goal the day before he was set to join the Brazilian national team. It was a physical blow and a psychological one.”

The race to play at the Emirates on February 20 is also on for Kaka, who has been struggling with a knee problem.

“Kaka will certainly be available against Arsenal, but he won’t be there with Siena,” confirmed Meersseman.

“This knee injury has been going on for almost two years and he always feels a little pain the day after a match. This is why we decided to take action so he can recover quicker in future.”

The Rossoneri face Siena this weekend without the suspended Alberto Gilardino, so there are precious few options left in attack.

“Ronaldo and Pippo Inzaghi will certainly be there against Siena. They looked good in training. We also scanned Gennaro Gattuso and he too should be ready for Arsenal.”

The professor revealed a curious particular about Gattuso’s hardman reputation,

“We need to protect Rino from himself, as he feels no pain and so pushed forward through everything. We need in-depth tests to see if there really is any damage or not.”

just posted on the other match thread as well but wanted to do it on the milan thread also - pirlo really did us proud today - watched the match in the stadium with some 25K italian supporters screaming - from whatever italian i could understand, pirlo MOTM in everyone’s (incl mine) opinion - completely dominated the pitch and had 2 goals (one disallowed for no reason - think it came off his chest)- amazing how he has played EVERY game of the season for a full 90 mins and still manages to put on performances like the one today. oddo was a little bit better but his lobs still too wide or on the portugese player’s feet! great fast and free flowing game

Thats a relief to hear from the doc himself. but its still not easy, we’re facing Arsenal after all, we dont only need to have our players but they must all be on top form and flawless. hopefully Ronaldo & Pato upfront with Kaka behind them.
