Torino 0 Milan 1, The Road is an OK Place
By: Gianfranco | March 22nd, 2008Was it a needed 3 points, yes. Did it come easily, no. Was it pretty certainly not, but the squad needed the points so badly that it is hard to really argue how they got them.
Carletto’s Lineup today featured two strikers sensing a bit of urgency for goals, or the fact that Kaka is lost with a bad back (which is by no means from carrying this team!).
Kalac; Oddo, Nesta, Kaladze, Maldini; Gattuso (Brocchi 66), Pirlo, Ambrosini; Seedorf; Pato, Gilardino

The goal in the 66th minute from Pato, was the product of a great hold and link from Gila. We may give Gila a ton of grief, and he missed a cracking chance today, but with his back to goal he holds the ball extremely well and makes the smart pass when needed. He may have to leave the team for his own good, but if his role was reduced to a supporting striker instead of a goal machine on this team, I think he would do just fine.
Another beauty turned in from Il Capitano today who continues to impress game in and game out. His crosses and work up-field led to a few solid chances in front of net, and a very near Pato goal. The rest of the defense also tightened up a bit today with Kaladze starting to find his form and Oddo actually coming back to play defense.
I will say one thing that I have noticed in the past few weeks, and I would like everyone’s take on it. When Milan play the xmas tree formation the defense, Oddo specifically, are meant to really work the flanks which obviously exposes the defense at the back. It’s not so bad when Nesta and Maldini are in the center, but if Bonera or Kaladze (of late), and heaven forbid Digao, are mixed into the middle or center of defense is porous. When Milan play two strikers it takes much less responsibility off of the wingbacks for obvious reasons, so the question for Carletto becomes, your team is aging, and the youth is in the attack, so why not play attackers and take pressure off the D? WHY!?!??!?!

It is simple questions like this that may lead to Carletto’s departure, and with Lippi supposedly being contacted by Milan and also Juve. It this decision is going to happen it may have to happen sooner than later. I hate to see Carletto canned, but they can amicably part ways allowing for the Lippi discussions to begin, or whatever coach you fancy at the moment.
Viola wins, and so did Roma, so it leaves us pretty much the same as it was before the games. If the Rossoneri do not capitalize on any lost points from Fiorentina, this season will slowly become a lost cause. I just think I may not have the strength to continue to deal with this woeful scraping by.

a decent performance today, although we didnt capitalize on all of our chances, it was certainly a deserved victory.
i know everyone including Carletto is saying he wont leave. but i can see in the end of the season he will step down and say its time to leave…yada yada yada… especially if there’s a chance for him to coach italy.
unfortunately Fiornetina won keeping a 4pt lead. i believe we will make it.
a small video i made (inspired from the nba “where amazing happens” commercials), main message NEVER GIVE UP!!

On a completely separate issue, i had a dream last night where Sheva had returned to Milan, and for the short stint he played, he was the Chelsea Shev not the old Milan Shev.
Dream/Nightmare/Premonition???
U decide!

good point about playing the two strikers instead of going with the christmas tree in league games when the defenders are not nesta and maldini.
we had a shitload of chances this game, but we also had a shitload of chances against sampdoria last week (in the second half) and to a lesser extent, against roma. we really need to start finishing more. seedorf, in particular, had about 13 goals at this point last season, but he hasn’t scored in ages and had two more fantastic opportunities today and at least one each against samp and roma. we really need him to finish those. i love it how pato can always get himself into a shooting position, but having said that, he needs to work on his shooting as well as learn to pass the ball a little more. still, he is only 18 and kaka used to infuriate me all the time with his lack of passing up until last season.
by the way, is there anyone who still isn’t glad we signed pato?
also, for the first time in his career, oddo sent in more good crosses than bad ones in a game. let’s hope that this is not a fleeting anomaly but a trend that continues.

Vtec, i was a huge pessismist about Pato, and he has surely begun to earn a lot of respect in my mind. Though still young and a bit untested when it comes to big games, he is really going to be a bit part of this squad and any successes they have in the future.

I’m going to say to goal was Gila’s.
It was him who did all the work, and it was 90% over the line when Pato touched it, but either way, we won.
But only by 1 goal.

good

Pato made sure it got the last 10% percent in the goal though

Hello my Milan family from…China! Go figure that I’m able to watch Chinese streams just fine back home, but when I come here, they totally weren’t showing the match on any channels. Oh well.
In any case, like Bonnie, I just watched the highlights on TV and totally breathed a sigh of relief, which has been the case anytime Milan wins nowadays, but what are you going to do. Now’s not the time to hate on our present team, but use what we’ve got and get that 4th spot. I don’t care how wins come, it is time to grit it out, and get it done anyway possible.
Good job to Gila for holding and freeing up Duckie for the goal. Also, good job to Carletto for FINALLY admitting that Gila may not be here next season. I like Gila, but really, his bright spots like todat come rarely. I would much rather have him rediscover his form at another club and do well (Viola, anyone?), rather than continue to struggle here. Also, the MHH (Milan Head Honchos)can’t keep using the fact that we have him as an excuse for not investing in strikers.
I hope you all are well.
Forza Milan!

OK, so I broke my promise of not watching a Milan match until they won 3 games in a row. Why? I was bored.
But no.. definetly an improvement, there’s definetly hope for 4th place.
I was all smiles when Pato scored.. for Gila. He still has a lot to prove, but it just made me happy. He should’ve got that first shot in though.
Btw, what exactly is Ambrosini’s role in the team? We know Pirlo is there for set-pieces and he adds a lot of creativity. Gattuso is there for simply getting us the ball. Ambrosini, I feel, is just there. Scores vital goals here and there, but I can’t seem to find a word to describe what his purpose is.

Life’s been terrible in the past few weeks,so I am glad Milan did not worsen it.
We didnt make up any ground in the table,so another week has gone by. We have to now beat Atlanta.
FORZA MILAN!!!!

Bonnie, I think Gourcuff is injured. He was,at least for the last 2 games,so I am guessing thats why he wasnt on the bench. Wishing him a quick return.
The title race is on again. I wish we were fighting for the title.Posted from

but hey, if roma can dream of the scudetto, we can dream of fourth as we are 4 back of fiorentina who still have a tough schedule on account of their uefa cup commitments. we have the much tougher schedule in the league, though, as we still have to fight sphincter and rubentus.

my hope is that fiorentina draw with inter, and we beat inter and win the rest of our games, and fiorentina lose to some other team… and roma wins the rest of their games to win the scudetto thanks to our win over inter… that would be truly special… if we cant win anything this year, we might as well ruin it for those douche bags… we get fourth, inter lose the scudetto, that would salvage the season at least a little bit..

I noticed Gila was in tears after the Goal (was he?)… I respect him for that, he played with every kind of burden on his shoulder, and it looked like it’s lifted off for that moment. I can see he’s improving.
But respect aside, we truly need him to be more relaxed and composed in front of goal, or leave.
Hell, if he’s playing better, we might not need to spend money on any striker, except half of Boriello, and concentrate the money on defensive part of the squad (that is defenders and goalkeeper).Posted from

oh… and everybody seems to forget bout Ricardo Oliveira, the former number Seven… anybody has the news on him? how’s he doing? is he still on loan or has he been sold?
If he’s not sold then there is also the possibility that Galliani simply brought Boriello and Ricardo Oliveira back and opt not to buy any strikers. They both seems to be on better form away from Milan.

I want to say that he’s still on loan somewhere in Spain. I hope that Uncle Fester isn’t idiotic enough to think that bringing them back will solve our striker problem in any way, shape, or form. Borriello has been absolutely beastin’ for Genoa this season. You know, as much as we love Milan, sometimes not every team is for every player. Fit is almost as important as form and we would be wise to remember that (Sheva-Mr.-I’m-Milan’s-second-highest-goal-scorer to Chelsea anybody?)

“my hope is that fiorentina draw with inter, and we beat inter and win the rest of our games”
well what high hopes you’ve got there.
There is no chance in hell we will win all of our games.Posted from

neither borriello nor oliveira fit in well with this team, although if we are changing coaches in the summer, chances are we will also change the set-up of the team so maybe those two players could be accomodated. i still believe that the best solution would be to sell those two after good seasons on loan and bring in more compatible attackers. gila must leave too.

How about this— we get Sheva for cheap(10m euros),and sign a top quality striker? Only disadvantage is that Sheva and the new guy will want playing time, and we already have Pato as one of the strikers.

just a nice quick fact, Pato earned us 10 points this season. 7 goals in 13 games. Gilardino, 7 goals in 27 games!!!
gianfranco, ill try to work on the Maldini montage soon. im also thinking about making a long 5min “where amazing happens” about Milan’s history story + one just for Maldini, i just have to collect some decent pictures first.

Carletto is old and cant think anymore. a new coach would know how to use oliveira and borriello. both are performimg well; so was gila when not in milan!

fetyani, to add to that fact, paloschi has 4 goals in 8 games… 2 of which he was brought on in the 87th and 78th minute… considering the minutes he has gotten, his strike rate is pretty impressive as well…

I am begging for Gilardino to leave Milan, for Milan’s sake and for his own sake. Apart from that goal “assist” against Torino he was invisible for most part of the game. Ancelotti can talk about how he is important in creating spaces, holding the ball or even goal assists BUT for goodness sake, he is a center forward whose job is to score. Nothing else. In these moments, that’s what Milan needs: to score goals!
Please do not bring Sheva back, not even in fantasy football. Milan was, is and will be great without him.
