Juve 3 Milan 2,
By: Gianfranco | April 12th, 2008When the game ended today, I did something I had not done in a long, long time. I shut off the TV and walked away in a vain attempt to take my mind completely off of today’s match. I was not even going to write tonight because quite frankly I didn’t even feel like, I was emotionally dejected. But what I have been realizing time and time again is that this blog is free tifosi therapy and when I sit down to write I get to exercise all the demons of the day’s debacle. Here we go….
-Pippo Mio, it should have been three, you certainly earned it today. When the game was difficult and of high value, you came to play, as you always do. There are few like you, and their will be even fewer like you. Even in the last ten minutes that you were on the pitch when you were showing exhaustion you still gave all you could and can’t be applauded enough.
-The first half was easily one of the best first halves I have seen out of the Rossoneri this campaign, and in quite a while. Juventus are a class opponent, unlike Inter, and Milan understand which always leads to an A+ game. That many goals in the first half goes to show how open and flowing the game really was, we all knew before the game that Milan’s defense was not top class, and that they would concede but they did well enough for the team to win. I made mention in the comments on how Juve worked their left flank, as they saw it weaker, seeing that Maldini was on the other side. They played smart, but Milan countered with some amazing work from Pirlo and Kaka.
-With a first half that good, their was bound to be a let off in the second. For anyone who has played a ninety minute match, it would be virtually impossible to maintain that first half pace for a full ninety, it is virtually suicide, and would leave the defense terribly exposed. With this being said the second half did not start well and by no means ended well either. It is best to look at it piece by piece.
-From the whistle to the red card, the ref of the day, Mr Rocchi. Did very little whistling blowing for Milan. The fouls where there and it is impossible to deny it. Camo, Sissoko, and Salihamdzic were crushing the Milan right flank, and while Juve was playing the bully, Milan was gaining frustration. Lets talk about this for a moment outside of the context of this match. The single most important job of an official is consistency, so after a first half of stern whistle blowing, and smart advantage play, both teams will expect the same type of calling, heck who wouldn’t? So when the second half starts and the whistle has been left in the locker room it is only natural for a team to feel this change and begin to take advantage, leaving their opponent frustrated and looking for fouls.
Cut back to today’s game, and Milan getting extremely frustrated as it seemed like no calls were going their way. Sissoko and Camo had just bullied Bonera and Rino, and as Sissoko went up field with the ball Bonera clattered directly into him with a terrible challenge. First things first, it was a bad challenge, and virtually inexcusable, but in the context of the game it could have certainly been avoided. The ref could have easily issued a yellow, but alas you make your own luck and bad luck in life, and Bonera was sent off. Being a gentleman, I will say that Sissoko was a beast out their today and I was happy to see he was OK, though I would prefer for him to have been subbed. So the game goes on.
-I have to say this is when I began to get very, very, very frustrated. I understand why Carletto did what he did with Pippo. When you are down a man you always reinforce your backline so I can’t argue all that much with the Pippo for Cafu move. Cafu did well today but further proved that he is a guy that can only contribute for a short time in a limited role, Fenerbache may be accepting applications. In essence what Carletto did was to decide to play for the draw, and the saga continues.
-The calls continue to go out of Milan’s favor and frustrations of the players and fans continue to mount. Maldini goes in for a fifty ball, the ref whistles. Free kick Juve and goal for Salihamdzic, who seems to have no luck against Milan before today and with ten minutes the wheels fall off the bus.
-I really think Carletto covered his eyes, turned towards the bench, moved his hand back and forth stopped and landed on Gila. He was in by the 89th minute for Rino and really had no impact on the game whatsoever. He did have a poor a touch in the box, but at that point we were expecting a miracle, and all know well and good there are no more to be had for the Rossoneri. In the 89th minute I lost all faith in Carletto as he made the single most moronic move of the season, and their have been a few, with 6 minutes left and the need for a goal he removed the creative midfielder for Brocchi!! Brocchi serves his purpose, and I do not say it enough how well he does so, but he should only be on the pitch when Rino is not, he is Rino’s understudy and that’s that. Brocchi is not going to make the pass that wins you the game, he is not going to make the run that breaks the defense, and he sure as shit isn’t going to a corner that leads to the game tying goal.
In those six minutes Milan had three corners and a free kick and Seedorf, who was so exhausted he could barely walk was forced to take all them. All of them were poor I made add, but after a match like this, with his legs like jelly, you can’t blame him. Even Kalac worked his way up for the free kick to no avail. The game was lost, on the pitch and off the pitch.
I am upset, I am demoralized, but I have cleaned my slate, and now I hope I can rest easy.

i’d also love to have cigarini, but if he came to milan at his age, it would stagnate his growth into a worldclass player. cough gourcuff cough.
ajax might make a move for gourcuff, with van basten coaching them next season, some reports of a 2 year loan deal emerged a few weeks back. i think that would be great. its a win-win-win for everybody.
paloschi will obviously be loaned out, i doubt we’ll get borriello back, unless we delay the hidden auction for another year which i think would be right. there have been many ‘one-season-hit-wonders’, if borriello can maintain his form into the next season, then we should bring him back. but at the same time if he doesnt, we risk losing out on cashing in for him.
at this rate, i also cant see gilardino staying at milan. i love the guy to death, i know he has talent. but for his sake he needs to leave, ill wish him the best, but he must go now.
zambrotta is basically a done deal, but another fullback would be great. id love to get di silvestri too, i called him out in the first few weeks of this season, hes got great potential.

Pato v. Balotelli has potential to turn into one of the titanic personal match-ups of the Milan derby.
Balotelli is stronger and seeminlgy, in a sprint, faster.
Pato, so far, is more skillful and seems to have quicker feet and a better sense of positioning.
This will throw oil on the fire of the rivalry.Posted from

It’ll be interesting that the derby is Inter’s quest for the Scudetto vs our quest for Champion’s League. Could literally be the game to decide next year, a little scary.
If Paolo stays on, I’d want another fullback. If he’s done, I’d want another CB.
De Silvestri would be nice, and we do have a good relationship with Lazio, that always helps, unlike Palermo who’ve sworn not to sell Barzagli to us. Just makes things a little easier.

the thing with midfielders is if we get anyone, they probably wont get any game time. especially with Dinho there (IF) and Seedorf will get sooo cranky, in addition to Rino, Pirlo, Ambro, Broochi & Emerson.
Broochi & Emerson might leave, so we will have to get someone, hopefully someone young and talented and will gain experience from the players around him and will always be ready to fill in for injured or tired players.
Bottom line, Milan have a lot of work to do this summer. i just hope they do it.

The best thing we can salvage out of the mess is at least the league standing remains unchanged…
With Nesta and Khaladze back in the game, let’s hope for better defensive play, and good flanks attack from Maldini/Bonera. May be more possesion football, than just wasteful long ball tactics.
I envy Liverpool to have “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as their theme song.

omg, I forgot Bonera got a red card.

Palermo can swear all they want, but they need cash!
Brocchi is one of the only people who can fill in for Rino so he is best kept as a sub. Emerson can kiss my ass.

What exactly is Oddo injured with? I feel like I haven’t seen him play in ages. As for Bonera being red carded, he apologized to Sissoko and the fans. It was a stupid challenge but he was classy about it. In any case…um..Cafu in for him? I guess? As long as Digao doesn’t come on or something. Gian, I remember how freaked out we were when we saw him warming up yesterday. Our poor defense, they literally have no decent subs whatsoever. No wonder they’re tiring out.

Yes.. I love how we’re all agreeing about the need for another full-back and center-back. I don’t know why Galliani isn’t seeing this. (I’m assuming b/c he hasn’t made any moves to strengthen the defence)
- Cafu, Simic, Favalli, Emerson, Gila should definetly leave.
- Janku, Serginho, Brocchi I’d keep around, but wouldn’t depend on them.
- Digao, Darmian, Gourcuff, Paloschi, Aubameyang I’d loan out, if they’re not gonna get quality playing time.On another note, here’s one player Milan has out on loan, Lino Marzroratti; http://youtube.com/watch?v=pMIfWa24GVQ ..
and there’s also Leo Grimi (????) and Di Gennaro out of loan..

Grimi is not good…
But I hear good things about Marzoratti, I would much rather Darmian get his chops here then on a loan. At Milan you learn from Maldini, if you get loaned by Siena you dont learn from nobody.
Hana Oddo had knee surgery, either tendon or ligament damage…

yah i would love to keep Broochi, but he hasnt been happy lately. he’s the perfect back up, thats why when you have good back up’s they tend to leave for first team time play. Ambro will stay of course. i personally think we must play Ringhio & Pirlo all the time, but thats another matter we can discuss after we establish our 2008-2009 team.
Marzroratti is pretty good, Galliani mentioned him couple of time this season saying when our staff believe he is ready we will call him back. we can use him back as early as next season.
anyone think Ronaldo will stay? i honestly think he wont re-sign his contract. he would have done great this season if it wasnt for the injuries. whenever he played when he is 100% fit, he showed the world why he is called Il Fenomeno.

I don’t know about re-signing, but I think he’s gonna be back with an impact for a few months, then he’ll go to Flamengo. So, no depending on him Mr. Galliani..
Euro 2008 this summer! Can’t waitt! Who’s everyone supporting? Italy here..
Does anyone think Inzaghi’s gonna get a call-up if he keeps scoring? If I was Donaodni, I’d call up: Toni, Del Piero, Borrielo, Cassano, Di Natale..

i dont think Pippo will get the call up, i hope he does for the Olympics.
i’ll be a neutral fan, i believe the 2 teams who qualify from the group of death will make it to the semi-finals.

moka, for some reason, I keep forgetting Euro is on this summer. And I have no idea why. But I’m super psyched too
I’m going to see if I can beat my record of number of soccer matches watched within one month. During World Cup ‘06, it was about 45 or so. Then again, I’m pretty darn sure there’s not even that many matches in Euro. Oh well, still is going to be an awesome affair.Hm, in terms of loyalties, I’m pretty darn neutral, like Fetyani. I always like to see Italy do well, but I don’t have any down and out loyalties when it comes to most national teams.

would u guys really want ronaldinho, zambrotta, or shevchenko on ur team? if ronaldinho comes seedorf will not be used. also look at brazil, kaka and ronaldinho can NOT play together. zambrotta and shevchenko are both over 30. i read many comments here that milan needs younger players. i really dont think that these three will make as big of an impact as ur board members are promising. use oliviera or gila to buy borellio or g. rossi. milan cant keep hold of a lead through the second half u should be looking at a reliable easy to get goalie (amielia) and young defenders. also loan out dida and kalac for some much needed experience

adam, the seeming incompatibility of Ronaldinho to our team is my chief concern. I’ve been thinking for a while, and I just can’t think of where to place him. He’s not really an out and out striker for Barca, is he? Which is what we need. Ricky said in an interview once that him and Ronnie play too similarly. We already have our established Brazilian second striker/trequarista/whatever he is, starlet. If he can adapt to our needs, then I’m all for it, but otherwise…I’m pretty iffy.

I only view Dino’s arrival as a good thing IF he’s coming as Kakas backup.
Our biggest complaint (after the age of certain players) is the lack of depth in the squad.
Just look at how guys like Kaka and Pirlo have played themselves into the ground this year!
This team needs to take the approach of Chelsea and Man Utd who have a like for like replacement on the bench.
One worry regarding Dino is, if Carletto does stay on, how the Brazilian will be utilized, as sometimes Carletto doesn’t get the best out of his players by using questionable formations and positioning players on the pitch that don’t really allow them to shine as they could.
Some peeps have also knocked the possible arrival of Shev (you aren’t the same guys who have been defending Gila all reason are you?? I mean, ok he left us in questionable circumstances and he’s maybe on the wrong side of 30 soon but Shev cant be any worse than Gila surley!).
Think about it!

Taking off Pippo was just a as bad as taking off Pirlo. Gattuso should have been dropped back to the defensive line. Ancelotti’s always going into a defensive shell always backfires. Pippo was making sure the defense stayed honest, when he came out, all of them pushed up.
Maldini is great but he costed us this game end of discussion!!!

i think that this club should invest in youth, we should bring in players like benzema or ben arfa to partner pato and diego of bremen as seedorfs replacement we also need a decent wide midfielder like quaresma. also milan need a new central back.and bring back the good talents we have on loan.
