MILAN: Dida; Oddo, Nesta, Kaladze, Jankulovski; Gattuso, Pirlo, Ambrosini; Kakà, Seedorf; Gilardino.

In my opinion not enough time on the pitch for Gourcuff, I understand Carlo wanted to get Gattuso out and Ambrosini, but it is OK to give Kaka a little rest in 3-0 game after scoring a brace.
The goal-scoring was kicked off by Ambrosini in a lightining quick first half for Milan. Kaka netted the other two goals. Gilardino again played a great game but could not find the back of the net; I am beginning to think he is flat out unlucky. I mean he just missed chance after chance.
In terms of game importance, it is great to start the season off so fast but remember this is just Genoa. Juve slammed Livorno yesterday, while Udinese scored a point from Inter today. Roma will play Palermo to round out the big four. Hope everyone enjoyed the first of many Super Sundays.

Gila isn’t unlucky, he’s crap. We need to stop hoping to see the Gila from Parma again. That Gila appears to be gone forever. Gila simply doesn’t fit at Milan. The quicker Galliani realizes this the better off we all are.

I agree with Tim. As fans, we attach some kinds of expectations from our players. Gilardino is no exception, especially when he’s been the league’s top scorer with Parma. However, after two seasons with Milan, I am disappointed with his performance. Alright, first year may be a bit tough but we’re patient. In the second year, he must make amend, which he didn’t. Actually, Inzaghi delivered more than him last season, when the game actually matters. Is there something that I don’t understand here?
This is another season for Gilardino. Galliani and co. seems to be happy to keep him. Ok. I’m not but hey, who am I, right? One more season. If he doesn’t knock in, say, 20 goals in ALL competitions this season, then something has to be done.

i fully agree with u langkau fiction. i still have some faith in gila and i’m not exactly sure why. something just tells me he’ll do well this season. gila can not take his part in our squad for granted. he has has to start banging in the goals especially when we really need it. what confuses me is that in my opinion gila really seems to try- most times anyway- but the number of goals he scores does not do justice to the number of clear-cut chances he has to score. we cannot afford for him to continue being so wasteful.

As Milan fans we forget that Pippo that scores like one out 10 chances and is offside for eight of those chances. I think Gila will blossom this year with some consisten playing time, the potential is all there he just has to find it. It would help if the people around worked him in more, in the 06 World Cup he got some great service and scored two quality goals and gave some assists as well, he just needs to find his groove with the winning eleven. Gila has way to much upside to quit on him now.

umm, i thought he only scored one goal in the world cup…
and yes i still have faith in him, but im not really sure it will last a lot longer…
yeah, inzaghi is offside 8 our 10 times but more often than not, he scores atleast one of the other two, and quite often puts them both away, gila however has been putting neither.. i hope he can find his goalscoring touch again

Going by goals, it’s true that Giladirno scored more than Pippo last season. In 38 games (14 as a sub), Pippo scored 11 goals in all competitions while Gilardino scored 16 goals in 45 games (11 as a sub). In terms of goal average, that means Pippo scored 0.45 goals per game compared to Gilardino’s 0.47 goals per game. Only 0.02 separates them. And I’ve not even compared their ages, which some of us assume the younger they are, the faster, the precise, the sharper, bla bla bla they become. At Milan, this seems to be almost the reverse. And we haven’t taken Ronaldo’s contribution: 7 goals in 14 games (2 as sub), which average 0.55 goals per game.
I think Gilardino needs to work more on those statistics if he has to make a strong point of staying at Milan.

Gilardino scored 1 goal in 5 games (1 sub) during the World Cup. Pippo scored 1 goal in the only game he played, and that was as a sub.
Maybe I’m being too hard on Gilardino but I pray that he proves me so wrong this season. For Milan’s sake.

yeah, at the world cup, gila had one goal and one assist (the pass to del piero to seal the germany game).
as for last season, his goal production was not only relatively poor, he seems disinterested at times, and he scored like 2 goals in 2 games in coppa italia, and had braces versus serie a games like ascoli, that inflated his goal total. whereas inzaghi scored a big goal at allianz arena, and of course, the two versus liverpool. inzaghi wasn’t even fit most of the year anyway, and is 34 also, yet he still, per minute, was more productive than gila, and in big games, a lot more so. I haven’t given up on gila, but now it is his third year, and he is 25. time to step up.

i think gilardino had a great game vs. genoa, he pulled the defenders for the first 2 goals, and then won the penalty for the third.
he created plenty of opportunities for himself, but they were all clutch shots which need some bit of luck.
i hope gilardino blows us all away this season, if he doesnt, im sure its his last as a milan player. he really needs to step up and start banging in those goals.
