Arsenal 0 - Milan 0, Everyone Take a Deep Breath

By: Gianfranco | February 20th, 2008

There is a little trailer video from today’s game that I found a bit late, but enjoy it anyway.

First things first, WE ARE OK! An away goal would have been grand but you have to believe in the Carletto’s way here, this game is erased and now a win at San Siro is all you need to move on. Easier said than done with this season’s record at home, but did any of us expect anything more from the xmas tree?

I learned a few things in today’s match:

*Adebayor is a beast. I have always been proud of our centerback’s size and field prowess; Nesta and Kaladaze are big boys. Adebayor made them look like rag dolls. We all know how much I love Didier Drogba, but this guy is a close second for brutish striker.

*On the flip side Pato, the polar opposite of Adebayor, has got some balls. He made some runs tonight that made me shake my head in disbelief and wonder why on Earth he did not just pass. But then I realized this kid has ice cold veins, and really did not look nervous in the least bit, quite frankly I was impressed. A goal or two would have been nice, but he is really working his way into my good graces.

*Il Capitano is the man, MOTM in my opinion. He was superb in the second half. He did not look 39 and he made some runs and recoveries that reminded of Maldini of ten years ago. Man am I going to miss him…

*Kalac is a solid goalie. Smart, stable, and calm.

*Ro, commenter extraordinaire and AC Milan offside blog enforcer (scared away a few Arsenal fans today), is GASP a GIRL. To think she had us all fooled for so long or maybe just me. It is good to know the female presence is strong here at the acmilan offside, I will take that to heart when I post pictures, sorry fellas.

The rest of the game was bit hit or miss for me. It was very apparent early on that Arsenal was the younger and faster squad. But you could see their lack of experience when they pressed forward, their were times when they could have built up the play but instead dumped a cross into the box hoping for Adebayor to muscle his way through.

Our midfield spent a ton of time defending today, consequently that meant that they did not do too much creating and distribution. In plain English Pirlo, Rino and Ambro were just to busy going to get the ball. Someone should remind Clarence that there was a soccer game today and that he should have shown up, I am his biggest fan when he is on, but he can be subbed just as quickly when he is not involved. Remember Seedorf off means a forward on. I know Ricky is nursing an injury, but if he and Seedorf don’t boss play in the attacking third then the whole xmas tree goes down the crapper. Poor performance from both Clarence and Ricky, just to bad.

I am unsure about Nesta and what happened; it looks to me to be a groin injury. He was able to walk it off, but came off for a very intelligent sub by Carletto. Imagine the nightmare if Bonera was thrown into the mix, cheers Carletto. All and all though a solid performance from the back four, nervous at times but solid nonetheless, except for the offside goal, I was fooled.

In a fortnight this fixture will move its way to San Siro, a win and the champs are through plain and simple. As I said earlier an away goal would have been nice but the Rossoneri now know the task at hand and it will be an extremely exciting and interesting game, after all they very rarely make things easy on the tifosi.

I could have sworn my heart stopped couple of times during the game. amazed truly amazed, Il Capitano proved to the world he is still IL CAPITANO!!! seeing him play like this fills me with great joy and at the same time some sadness, but lets leave that for maldini monday.

We will get there, San Siro is different. Doesnt matter who you are, what did you achieve, as soon as you enter the San Siro, your ass belong to us. a nice picture of the San Siro cemetery http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q87/milanista3/clubcemetery.jpg

and today i missed an exam worth 5%, because of the game. as soon as i walked into class, i have a stupid grumpy english prof, he said “let milan write your next exam” asshole, and asked me was it worth it? i replied “of course and no regrets at all, Milan comes first”.

Fetyani, you’re kind of my hero. I was contemplating ditching my last period Calc class, but settled for making a mad dash to the library after it ended to catch the last half hour. Also, I one hundred percent agree about Paolo. Complete beast today, he truly is immortal.

PS. On your next exam, you should totally write “MILAN OWNS YOO” in red ink.

Anyone know when the last time Milan lost a crucial(i.e. one where the game had a bearing on going on in the tournament) game at home in the CL?

You dont even know the beginning of it hana lol. i think im seriously messed up in the head, specifically with Milan. i broke up with my gf of around 2 years or so, because of Milan (among other stuff, all related to the main reason milan). never ever think of giving me an ultimatum and to choose between going to the Milan derby or a girl lol. even my parents are aware of my Milan mania, and they just let me be, because there is no going back when you belong to the Rossoneri!

A, against Barca in 05/06 when Guily scored the goal. second leg at Camp Nou 0-0. Barca went to face Arsenal in the final and win it.

Well, the game was exactly how i thought it would be, in pretty much every way. Also Gianfranco, i do not believe that kaka and seedorf played that bad i think it was more of a matter of the arsenal defence completely closing them down.

I think Arsenal played very well, but quite frankly they are no match for the great Milan defense. WOOO!!!

    Bring on San Siro!

    FORZA MILAN!!!!!

Senderos may be crap but he played a gem last night. Milan is def capable of advance but one thing has to happen to assure that, SCORE. Two strikers should be employed this weekend against Palermo, and all the way through the next Arsenal match. Let them figure that shit out…

Fetyani, that last comment about your GF was deep man. I am learning things about you guys I never though possible. Here I thought we are a bunch of harmless Milan fans, who knew we had intricate real lives. This seals the commenter meet and greet will take place a week from today!

Milan newbie here…Would two forwards help? We all know what happened to the U.S. in WC98 when we employed the Christmas tree formation.

Well Mr. Heston welcome, great name. I think two forwards would really make things more offensive minded and prove helpful.

lets not forget how the tree killed it in cl last year… in serie a i agree that it is completely useless serie a so we need 2 forwards against palermo, but in the cl, i think it might still work…

    YOU DAMNED DIRTY APE!

Whew, now that I got that out of my system, I was fine with the 0-0 tie. The only time i felt nervous was when that shot towards the end hit the crossbar.

I thought (once again) that Gila was useless. Ronaldo could have done better than he did. Would Inzaghi have done any better? Who knows? He’s cold in Serie A but has the knack for stepping it up in the important games. I don’t think he would have gotten any service anyway- it seems like the plan was to concentrate efforts on defense, then counterattack IF they got they chance.

Meet and greet sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I’m Dave, and I’m a boy. A man. A man-boy. Something like that…

Roma supporter here! I watched the game and you closed down Arsenal pretty well. I think they really want to concentrate on the EPL this year and wouldnt mind going out of the CL that much (so I have heard ;) )

Anyhow I am rooting for you to go through. A Roma Vs Milano final would be just dreamy, but of course we are both far away from achieving that. If we dont get there I’d like to see Maldini lift the trophy for the last time … and Totti next year in the Olimpico ;) I’d settle for that.

So Milan and Roma to the next round and Inter to sink!

Haha…Milan and Roma fans unite against Inter! I’m loving it. I’m totally with you on the Roma v Milan final, Gabs…far away, yes. But achievable. Good luck to both teams during the next leg.

I sadly quite like Arsenal, and I’m a bit bummed Milan met them so early. But them winning the Premiership and us winning the CL would be quite wonderful. =]

A combination of things hurt us last night.
    1. That F’ING xmas tree!
    2. Some below par performances from our own boys (part of which was due to lack of match fitness, return from injury etc)
    3. Wenger’s damn tactics

Im happy to move on after last nights game, still optimistic that we can take these young bucks at the san siro tho!

Ro - “FUCK FUCK FUCK Seedorf i freaking hate you right now!!!!” and i fot u were a guy??? lol!

Fet- there is reason behind your perceived insanity, its called being a Milanista!!!!! Stay crazy bro, stay crazy!

1- why does christmas tree works in CL?! well actually it doesnt only work in CL, rather against teams who want to win against us and play offensive, which will give us more space, thus christmas tree is good for that only purpose. while in serie a, medicore teams would rather tie us rather than attack, so with the christmas tree we cant move the ball to the top.

2-Pippo is a “CL God”, doesnt matter if he dosnt have any legs, or is playing blind folded. he will stir up the opponents defense, keep them running after him and eventually score. why? because he is “Filippo Super Pippo”

3-Pirlo and Seedorf are from a certain perspective are the 2 most important players in the team. when they play good, the whole team will play better, including Kaka. Pirlo (the whole team actually) passes were so poor that we couldnt do anything. my only hope for a goal was through luck, which we had many times this season in serie a, thats not a good thing specifically.

4-I just cant explain how happy i am to see Il Capitano play such a beautiful game. while watching the game all i could think of, maybe..just maaaybe, he’ll say “holy shit! if i cant still play like this at this age, im gonna stay for one more season”. all we can do is pray.

5-whenever it comes to Inter, all italian clubs will get together against those bastards. even when im with my friends, juventini, romanisti, etc, we say “what brings us together is our hate to inter”. in the pre-season game (Milan vs. Inter vs. Juve) Milan and juve fans we’re cheering for each other against Inter. In the past Milan Derby, there was a group of juve fans supporting Milan. mialn fans had this banner up before the game http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q87/milanista3/IMGA0037.jpg
one of my favorite milan anti-inter chants(come sempre a inizio stagione by milan players & fans) http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf4xsPqbVsI

i cant explain how much i hate and dread inter, i dont think i ever hated someone or something this much. i have this scarf in my room, first thing i see when i wake up and before i go to sleep http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q87/milanista3/DSC03247.jpg
