Thursday Milan Musings
By: Gianfranco | January 31st, 2008Well the day after a win is always bittersweet. I am still really happy about the win, but it has time to settle and I really start picking apart what I did not like. I guess we can start with what I did like though this time around.
-Rino and Pirlo played out of this world.
-Once Oddo warmed up he was awesome, pinpoint crosses and great defense.
-Pato is on a one game, one bad pace, so the next one is going to be good stuff.
-Kalac seems to be playing as though he does not want Dida back on the pitch, does anyone blame him?
OK bad things now:
-When the defensive wings move forward, we look a bit lost and slow in the back. A good forward will make things miserable for the back line.
-The Rossoneri lack the killer instinct that puts teams away. I do not understand why they can not score four goals a game; it is not for lack of chances.
-Kaka really struggles to get going in Serie A games, specifically mid week ones.
OK enough ranting it is time we talk about the schedule ahead. Fiorentina is on deck and in case you haven’t noticed they are playing well. It will be a formidable task against a team that needs the points just as much as we do, on the flip side there is no better team to beat than one ahead of you.

With seven games coming up in February, instead of the usual 4-6, the Rossoneri will have to take points wherever possible. Equally as important is the need for Carletto to keep a fresh rotation, the only problem with that is the bench is not exactly trustworthy in these situations. The boss needs to rotate more, giving individuals a rest here and there instead of completely changing the lineups game in and game out. At this point we need continuity and really good use of the substitutions.
Last Few Odds and Ends…
-Ronaldo, Pippo, and Serginho will all be ready for this weekend. I would expect to see at least two out of the three show up against Fiorentina at some point or another.
-Michael Essien loves Milan just as much we do, but do not get to excited he does not love it enough to play there. I think I would though.

-Potential future rossoneri striker, Didier Drogba, is tearing up the African Cup of Nations, could Serie A be next?
-Is it to early to start talking about Arsenal?
-Finally Tiziano Crudeli anyone, this man loves Milan more than all of us combined.

Great post…your right though Gattuso looks to finally be out of the injury funk he was in for a week or two.
Oddo though for me still needs some work…he needs to sharpen his skills…aim a little better.
Oh Patinho…do you know he’s played 4 games in the Serie A and he’s scored 3 goals?
If kalac continues to play the way he is Dida will be packing his bags in no time….I think I love that man (well…not love love but you know what I mean)….He keeps his eye on the ball and is firm in his position he is able to stop balls without them going back into the path of the striker *ehemDIDAehem*….I’d like to see him play more than Dida…Dida lost my trust.
I would really like to see how pippo does with Pato So my prefered three top line up is KA-PA-IN
Ahh…Tiziano Crudeli…My man you are the true spirt of a die hard fan…If there were more people like you my friend Soccer would be the biggest sport.

yup! I think we should raid arsenal reserves. They have a great bunch of upcoming players who themselves make a formidable team.

corrier dello sport reported that kalac has replaced dida as number 1.
dida was fit to play vs. reggina but carlo decided to stick with kalac.
i hope carlo has the balls to do the same vs. fiorentina.

Fiorentina is going to be a test for Milan and Ancelotti. I believe that they should try to play with the three advanced attackers.
However, in this game they also need two ball getters plus Pirlo in midfield, Fiorentina will try to hold the ball more than others have done lately.
Now no place for Seedorf left. If Seedorf is unfit then Ancelotti’s dilemma is solved for him. But if Seedorf is fit, he will start him, sacrificing a holding player or more likely (he is Italian afterall) a forward, neither of which is ideal for mine against Fiorentina.
But above all they need to put chances away. They don’t. Except for Gilardino(lately) and Ronaldo(ever so briefly), everyone else is squandering lots of chances and good positions.

Great point A, it makes you wonder when you make a sacrifice for the good of the team. Ambro would work much better than Seedorf in this spot. I do feel the xmas tree will be employed though…

Big game this weekend; I too would like to see Ambro/Gattuso in a more defensive position flanking Pirlo who would advance a little more in attack through Kaka with 2 strikers in Pato and Gila or Pippo. But I too doubt Ancelotti would ever leave out a fit Seedorf in a potential 6 pointer like this.
I fear Fiorentina will be able to defend reasonably well without having to put 10 behind the ball and thus be even more dangerous on the break, which has absolutely killed us of late (see Atalanta). Do we really only have 2 fit central defenders of any worth in Nesta and Kaladze? That is alot of pressure to put on them with such a compressed schedule and they appear slower because of this. Would Ancelotti consider Maldini paired with Nesta or Kaladze more frequently in central defense since we now have more fullbacks healthy?
However, I can just as easily see Fiorentina play a little more wide open and we just punish them like Napoli-here’s hoping!

GOSH DAMN IT COME ON….JUST WHEN THINGS START TO LOOK GOOD!!
RINO NOOOOOOO!!! *burries head in pillow and cries* Hey at least we might see gourcuff for some more time…
Your right Gianfranco with all pippos offsideness glory him and pato should make a pair.

According to gazzetta, Rino will be out for around 20-30 days, and he may be eligible for the 2nd leg.
im sure because only its Rino, he’ll probably make it earlier than expected. unlike signor fatso R99, who is also injured, apparently its not the light injury he had last week, what a surprise.
*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

I have heard varying news on Rino, but as we all know he is tough and a gamer. He will come back sooner than expected, maybe not 100% but sooner than expected. I wonder what goes at Milanello that people are getting hurt, or well just Ronaldo. It is hard to remember the last in game injury for Milan, they all happen in training, what gives!?

yeah, new reports are saying gattuso is out for 3 weeks, which is half of what we initially thought.
but still, we’ll miss gattuso kicking fabregas’ ass at the emirates.
and i have a good feeling pirlo will teach fabregas a lesson on passing in both legs.

Feel bad for Gattuso if this is true but realistically, Emerson can do the holding job with aplomb.
Ancelotti experimented with Pirlo in the Seedorf position of left ’second tier’midfield for passages against Reggina so we might be seeing a new approach.
Pirlo is great when he is central and deep but Emerson looks a little lost when he is playing wide and Pirlo obviously is not the same type tackler to snuff out attacks at the heart of the defense as efficiently the Brazilian.

Oh but a fit and hard running Gattuso is very important against Arsenal. Emerson doesn’t have the pace.

its true emerson Wont be able to keep it up, a real shame that Gattuso is out… oh man.. what are we going to do
i really dont know what to think about the arsenal match, either milan will pull of some super-dupa performance and wipe us of our feet with joy, or will be completely dominated. I think the first half will be very close but not second..
anyways its too early to be talking about this in yoo much detail.Posted from

Dude, have some faith. When was the last time Milan got dominated? lol Milan are the dominators par excellence and Arsene’s little toy boy upstarts ain’t gonna change that.
