Thursday Milan Musings

By: Gianfranco | August 27th, 2009

-Oddo: It’s important to say I am not happy with Oddo but Milan put the player and team in this position and now appear to have to swallow it. This whole situation teaches a very valuable lesson, don’t overpay players and if a deal becomes available sell, sell, sell! It does not excuse Oddo for acting like a jerk, but in the end it is Milan and only Milan paying for these mistakes.

-Wingback nightmares: Thanks to Oddo’s stubbornness it does not look like reinforcements will arrive for the position. Personally if we were buying just to buy then this OK, and if the player is not a longer term solution to a long term problem than it is best to save the money. I just don’t get how names like Grosso and Zaccardo
were not explored and young players like Rafinha, De Silvesteri, and Cissokho were lost, De Silvestri went for 6M, that is peanuts!!! Bottom line is looking more and more like we are stuck with Zambro/Oddo on the right and Janks/Antonini on the left, let’s just hope Leonardo keeps fresh legs and things work out in the end.

-Seedorf: Easily the goat of last season behind Ronaldinho, except no one was behind this guy! It seems that suddenly a single good preseason performance and the subsequent inability to crack the winning eleven in game one has caused many a Rossoneri fan to clamor for his return in the derby. I can see both sides of the coin on this one, Seedorf offers a bit more “attack” than the likes of Flamini or Ambro and he also allows for a different dynamic of play in and around the box, but at this point how many players do we need with their back to goal to make the pass? I am going to cover this more in tomorrow’s derby preview, but for now I have to stick with my gut and say that Seedorf should remain on the bench come Saturday.

-CL Draw: Inter/Barca and Milan/Real REALLY! Zlatan and Kaka back to the San Siro, I mean you couldn’t make this stuff up and to think UEFA is not into storylines. Sadly the Italian Clubs are the losers here and though there is a good chance both teams move onto the next round, less so for the Rossoneri (still not sold on this team as a whole to compete on two fronts), the Spanish boys will probably wipe the floor with the Milan squads. Arsenal getting a cushy draw and oddly enough Chelsea has drawn Porto, maybe they forgot that Jose is at Inter and Carletto at Chelsea…don’t be surprised if the first knockout rounds sends Milan on a trip to Stamford Bridge!? Hey at least we don’t have it as bad as Alessio and Roberto…

my biggest worry before the derby is Strorari, he has to stay sharp 90 mins and plus. of course this is in addition to the special lazy guys, Zambro, Janku, Pirlo & Dinho.

Gattuso has to play, and as captain. if we need anything in this game, its the fighting spirit, im sure Rino will cover that.

Our season will fall on us because of our wings, im worried that Zambro & Janku will fail us down the road, i really hope not.

Dorf & Pippo have to come in later.

Ricky should suit and play for us. we all know he belongs to us.

fet – im with Flamini… “However, the battle will be in midfield – that’s where the derby will be won,” concluded the midfielder.

    He is so bloody right!

fet – you do have a point – the ones we NEED to worry about ARE Strorari, Zambro, Janku, Pirlo & Dinho

Check this from Strorari – “I have faced Eto’o and Milito when I played in La Liga with Levante. They are two very talented strikers.

“I think Milito, if I’m not mistaken, scored a lot of goals against me, but that was at a time when I let in goals from everyone.”

    Waaaa!

avia he is playing coy, it’s a game, a psych out, I do worry about Storari a bit, but I think he will do fine. The spine of the midfield worries me the most and I will cover it more in my pregame post but the fact of the matter is that if we get bulldozed down the center of the park Rino and Flamini will have to check more central and the implosion will be begin. Saturday will be an epic war for space on the pitch, a beautiful game for a tactician to watch but maybe not so beautiful for a casual fan…we shall see!

AND ROBBEN IS OFFICIAL TO BAYERN…. i feel betrayed by galliani because if im not mistaken right after they sold kaka to Real he promised to reinvest the money in the squad. and what happened.. Leo had to beg him to spend 15 million on KJH….. I wish I could find that article with him quoting to rebuild with kaka’s money.

Couldn’t have put it better myself. And no, don’t worry about Sneijder, he’s not in our squad list to face you guys. I wouldn’t have expected it either, he’s never trained with our team till today. Its Cambiasso’s absence I’m more worried about – he’s been our star in many of the past Milan derbies. You guys definitely have the upper hand going into this one, but with two teams that have tough midfields and defences, its going to be a very tight game.
