Celtic 2- Milan 1
By: Gianfranco | October 3rd, 2007
I have been speechless most of the day and have finally mustered enough strength to rip someone a new asshole. Let us start shall we:
1.
Dida has been in a steady decline for the past few seasons at the San Siro, but instead of saying thanks for the memories he has been resigned. While this love fest has been going on the likes of Buffon, Cudicini, Abbiati, and Amelia have all flown under the Milan radar. In all honestly this is absolutely unacceptable, the man lost the game today no question. The problem is as I think back, it is not the first time I have said this. His shakiness on crosses has always been a weakness, but today it was just to much. I am almost willing to be that the fan that whacked him across was a Rossoneri tifosi who had stolen Celtic gear to kill two birds with one stone, my hat is off to you. Remeber Milan fans, our goalie was being carried off after being slapped in the face…GREAT.
2. The defense lacked any cover what so ever on corner kicks. Again this is not an issue if Dida snags these balls but the cover and clear is just not there. Why? Nesta is a tall guy, but Bonera’s placement on these corners just does not cut it. I never thought I would say this, but I would take Jaap Stamm at this point. Maldini must really, really, really pissed off.
3. The only goal today came off a PK, that means that the only way they were able to score was a terrible tackle on Ambro that led to a spot kick. I do understand that the first half was very defensive and the midfield did well to hold the run of play, but 2 shots on goal!??!?! This is a world class team and you can only put two shots on goal. Pippo had one chance, and Gila none…THESE ARE YOUR STRIKERS!!!!!
4. Carletto has to be more aware of the game, what was he watching. He needed to push the play hard in the beginning of the second half, instead he got burnt in the end. I am not calling for his head because I just don’t see anyone having anymore success right now. It has come to the point where I am contemplating and entirely new roster some time in January.
With all that being said there was actually some great CL games today. The man, myth, and legend Didier Drogba single handedly saved Chelsea and Avram Grant today by playing his heart out. I wish we had a guy with that kind of heart and aggresion, instead we have Ricky Kaka, who played fairly well, if he was all alone…its called a pass Ricky.
Lazio drew with Real Madrid which is awesome for them, other than Inter, it is good for Italian football to succeed in the CL and I applaud their efforts today. I mean if Inter even had an Italian on the bench, ah screw it I hope they don’t even make it of the first round.

I hope for Milan’s sake that this is the beginning of the end, or maybe the middle of the end, for Dida. He is an embarrassment to your club. I’m glad Celtic took the points, but I hate to see that at the highest levels of the sport I love. It makes me, and a lot of other neutrals in the Italian game, want to hate Milan, and considering the level of talent you have, that’s a shame.

I’ve lost faith in Dida since after 2003. Enough said.
“gila did decent… he needs to play more” - He’s played a lot more in the last season and didn’t make significant contributions (comparative to Inzaghi, Kaka, Seedorf et. al.)
There needs to be changes and by ‘changes’ I am not merely referring to the transfer market but rather the players’ and management’s mindsets. It’s like Milan didn’t really want to play last night.

I don’t understand why Carlo sticks to the christmas tree. Milan DOMINATES possession but the only way they score is through a ridiculous ball that Pirlo plays through, or a penalty. Kaka is at his best when he plays behind the strikers.

Dida has always been a liability in my mind and I can’t figure out why so many brazilian goalkeepers can find a job in Italy(i’m a Roma fan and I feel your pain because we have Doni!). Dida should be ashamed of himself after his pathetic dive after he was touched on the chest it was an total joke but Celtic should be fined for allowing a fan to get on the pitch. And the tackle on Ambrosini was never a penalty.

langkau fiction, i am not talking about last year.. actually i was not even talking about this year on the whole, just that particular game really.. but i have got to say that when he and ronaldo did play together, he put away a few goals, because that allowed him to play further up front, something he cant do as a lone striker coz he needs to help out with midfield interplay…

Question for all you Milan supporters, if you don’t mind: how well has Kaka played so far this season? (Especially given all the Golden Ball hype.)

k, point noted thanks! Although Giladirno does well most of the times, in terms of creating spaces or playing ‘off the ball’ or doing good 1-2s, he has not been scoring. That is the main concern. He may have played well during the Celtic game but he didn’t score. Yes, and neither did Inzaghi.
Oh, about “put away a few goals” while Ronaldo was with him, well I think his scoring performance went down and ended up scoring only 12 goals in 30 matches. Ronaldo, on the other hand, in such a short span having played only in the last 12-odd games scored 7 goals. So, whether he is a lone striker or combine with another striker, he’s still not able to score.
And I agree with Ricci about Ancelotti still playing the Christmas tree formation. He should change it once in a while. Why is he cautious about playing two strikers? Or is it because if he has to move Seedorf to the left, then Ambrosini (being one of the old guards) has to be on the bench?

Linda, I think this season Kaka has not performed well compared to last season where he played brilliantly. And “the Golden Ball hype” that you’re referring to is awarded for last season’s performance.

I was there last night when Celtic vanquished the mighty AC Milan. In an awful wet Scottish night, the home fans were cheated of admiring a world and European class team in Milan by continuous diving. Celtic FC and their fervent fans were let down by one idiot after the second and winning goal. Sadly, AC Milan were let down by their ‘diddy’ Dida through his over-reaction to a tickle on the chin though that should never have happened. Let UEFA deal with Celtic accordingly but with a commensurate punishment. There were over 58,000 of us there last night - and two idiots.

Dida what an absolute wanker!! The fan didnt even touch his face, he gave him a little tap on the shoulder and a 6ft plus goalie goes down as if hes been poleaxed. Its one of the most pathetic things i have ever seen. He should be so ashamed of himself, they should ban him for life for being the biggest pansy who has ever lived

The fan that ran on the pitch and flicked a hand out at Dida has robbed Celtic of the glory they deserve for beating champions of Europe. However, Dida’s behaviour brings great shame on AC Milan. His cheating and play-acting is not worthy of one of the world’s greatest clubs.

Dida’s fall was shameful to all Milan fans, and it should hopefully spell the end to his San Siro. But then I am reminded of who is in charge and those Brazilian loving bastards will probably sign his brother too.

K, I agree with you on your take on Gila, he has no rhythm or cohesion with the rest of the squad based on lack of playing time. I would rather see him in there game in and game out.
Ricci, The xmas tree formation does just that dominates possesion and does not score goals its awful, two strikers with Kaka behind is the way to play.

Linda as for Kaka he may have deserved the golden ball last year, but all he deserves this year is a golden bench to sit on, right next to his old pals Dida and Ronnie.

a little harsh on kaka, gianfranco… agreed that he hasnt played as well as he did last year but its important to remember than no one besides pirlo really has. And i cant blame him yet, because it will sure take time to get used being marked by the entire opposition’s defence..
i also think that he could have passed the ball yesterday but he always just kept running, but i dont exactly blame him for that either.. its not like when he passes the ball, the strikers put away the half billion chances that are being created… ancelotti keeps expecting him to do it all on his own… be in the midfield, create chances, be in the attack finish those chances… well if had some kind of support, and a striker that finished of the chances, he could probably pass the damn ball to him…
whats odd is that you can show support for gila, but not for kaka… surely kaka has played better than gila, infact, he has played better than the entire team besides nesta and pirlo and in some games ambro..
