I’m Really Upset

By: Gianfranco | January 9th, 2008

Well I did my best to refrain on commenting on the entire Pato situation assuming that if I just did not talk about it would go away, but alas the offside website has proved a hot bed for Pato musings and I feel like I can no longer continue my silence on this subject. I guess this is rightfully so because to be quite honest with you I am really, really, really pissed off. First things first, I never wanted this kid; I don’t like this kid, and really have no allegiance towards him whatsoever. He does not signify AC Milan; he has not proved anything to me, and the gall to say he will score two goals against a Napoli side that has had a very pleasant season is just plain dumb. Until he does anything remotely exciting, like say make good on his promise, or more importantly in my eyes find a way to keep Maldini around for many more years, I will be a non-believer. Much like the old saying “innocent until proven guilty,” you can say Pato is in my eyes, “worthless until proven worthy.”

Now that I have expelled those piles of rage, I can not turn my anger toward the Milan front office most importantly Uncle Fester. It is because of them that we have hailed and deified Pato as a savior, and instead of creating a humble soccer prodigy, ala Lionel Messi, it seems we have begun to feed an impressionable child most certain BS. Does anyone really believe that Pato is the next Kaka? I mean does Kaka need a next Kaka? Why are we even trying to replace Kaka, when many other positions need an overhaul? Does anyone else notice the errors in logic that is surrounding us here? I have always respected Milan, and I have felt that as a team they have respected fans as well as their players, which is truly a feat in modern sports, but lately I have been let down. Instead of finding ways to better the team, improve quality of play, and make the team a proverbial contender in all competitions they have forgotten what it is like to build a “real team.” The peak of Rossoneri success has never involved starlets or over priced has-beens, it has been a mixture of humble, strong role players and successful youngsters brought up through the system. Remember even Sheva was a bit under the radar compared to Pato. Let the big clubs outbid each other for these “marketable big names,” and fall into that trap, I do not want any part of it. I understand that all good teams come to end, and maybe I am being a bit unrealistic and overly noble here, but I do not feel the path we are travelling will not bring much success now or in the future. Give guys like Aubomayeng, Gourcuff, Gila, and Bonera a chance to play endless minutes proving themselves as Rossoneri. Well I am literally exhausting from my ranting, and I hope I have made some sense in conveying my thoughts on this.

Gianfranco, on this post I totally and 120% agree with you! Well done! I couldn’t say it better especially with giving Aubameyang et. al. the chance to play instead of, as you’d said, wasting so much time deifying Pato as the savior.

Well Martha I did not think it to be all that controversial, but as I read it I realized that not all Milanista fans may share my view on Pato, but hopefully they share my view on the state of affairs of the club.

    Rawr Gianfranco….

Anyways I agree with almost everything you said. The only thing I slightly and I mean like .1% don’t is on Pato’s behaviour. I mean Fester and ole Berlu over there have to have had something to do with what he said. They are trying to get Milanisti all excited about the rest of the campaign so they are trying even harder proclaiming the second coming of christ here with ole pato that they’ve actually started to believe the shit that spews forth out of their mouths and think all will be fine now that Pato is starting to play. What they don’t realize though is that our attacking situation isn’t the only problem we have much much more problems with other areas of the squad that need to be remolded and polished up.

They do need to start giving the younger kids a chance because that’s the only way their going to be able to prove that they are worthy and work at their talent and keep it smooth and polished. If they just let them sit there and rot they are going to lose all their talent. They need to be able to switch the seniors and full time guys out every couple of games or put subs in so that we don’t go through the same thing like last year were the guys were literaly dying for exhaustion. But they can’t do that because they don’t give the youngins a chance.

Now that I’ve probably bored you all to death I’m done

Yeh, pato is really over rated. He Is NOT the next kaka, because he is not kaka and will never be kaka he is pato, and will have to make a name for himself. I’m sick of this “next kaka” crap!

I completely agree with the Gourcuff, Gila and Bonera thing. We need to get these young guys in to action and Use what we’ve got while we can!

    Gianfranco,

As someone who lives in Milano (but doesn’t support Milan), I find your basic criticisms to be spot on, but wonder why you are singling out Galliani rather than Berlusconi as being at the heart of the problem. Galliani wasn’t the one who killed the Buffon deal at the last minute, Galliani wasn’t the one who hasn’t made significant cash available for transfers since he was thrown out of office, Galliani wasn’t the one who has been pushing Ronaldo, Gourcuff, Ronaldinho and/or Pato as the saviour to all rossoneri worrries, Galliani wasn’t the one who insisted that Ancelotti play Serginho, etc.

I don’t particularly like Galliani (though I’ve never met him, only seen him in the street a couple of times), and thought that he was a conflict-ridden disaster as president of the Lega Calcio, but he isn’t the one who bears ultimate responsibility for what happens at your club.

I agree about current affairs, but not about Pato. I mean there must be something truly remarkable about him to get all this hype don’t you think? I’m not saying I like all this talk about him being the saviour, but I am convinced that he’ll do really well.

I remember a few months ago Galliani was saying that he was going to sign one of 5 or 6 huge names in football. I think those names included Eto’o, Dinho, and Drogba. But they also included Sheva and Pato. After all the BS about putting aside gagillions of euros for Ronaldinho if he’d ever leave Barca, and when they couldn’t land Eto’o or Drogba, I thought for sure we’d end up with Sheva again. Well, we ended up with Pato, and whether he deserves the status of being in the company of those other names, we’ll see. (Probably not.) I think Milan had to “create” this superstar when the real (proven) superstars were unattainable.

i dont think blaming pato is going to do any good… lets be honest, no one in the milan camp says anything without the approval or more than likely instigation of galliani and berlusconi…

i agree that pato needs to prove himself, but if he is told by galliani to come out and say that he will score 2 goals, more than likely, he will come out say exactly what he is told to…

you already know how i feel about gourcuff and bonera, and how they deserve more chances…. gila has had plenty of chances, and will continue to do so… it is time for him to start taking them…

    Gianfranco,

I have to say i usually only peruse these pages but have been moved to add in my own thoughts.

Firstly i completely agree on your Pato stance, as those of us who have followed Milan long enough are well aware that for every Sheva or Massaro there have also been the Bierhoffs and Kluiverts (we can only wait with baited breath till the weekend to find out how the Pato saga plays out) but here’s hoping that he can help turn around our season.

Secondly, and i realise that this may cause a sharp intake of breath, but i have to disagree with you regarding having Maldini around for any more seasons! Thats right ive said it! Dont get me wrong, i love the guy, truly, but having watched him ply his trade alongside the even more legendary Baresi i have to say old green eyes should have hung up his boots a few seasons back. As a fan it has been hard sometimes to watch him carry on playing when you know he’s pass his best. (Again, apologies if ive offended anyone out there).

Def agree that there is no point in trying to replace Kaka and for people to even suggest it borders on ungratefulness. Barca can keep ‘Dino as far as im concerned!

And please for the love of all that is holy can we keep a hold of Gourcuff! If they do sell him i might have to do a rendition flight out of Milan to give Baldy a slap (will take Shehan with me, i think the two are due a meeting!). He is the kind of player that the next cycle of Milan will need especially if we are getting rid of a few of the seniors come the summer.

It has been hard to watch Milan at times this season, we can only hope that Carletto can turn them around as he appeared to this time last year, especially as we have Arsenal on the horizon, but for any of the doubters, just cast your minds back to last year and what we did to a certain team from Manchester!

Sorry for going on, this is the reason why i usually dont comment!

    Forza Milan!

Galliani, I am going to freaking shank you. I swear. the nerve of this guy…”Don’t put too much pressure on Pato”, my ass. Who the hell was the one that put all that pressure in the first place? *shoots uncle fester + berlusconi who have done next to nothing productive in recent years*

Gianfranco, hurray for angry ranting, we all needed this at some point. A to the MEN. I agree with mostly everything you said, however, I am leaning towards agreeing with k on this one. pato most definitely needs to prove himself before saying anything, but i feel like before he made this statement, he’s been remarkably good-natured and has been acknowledging that he has a lot to learn from his teammates. im willing to pass judgment on him until i see him in play.

and avia, welcome to the crew =] I think we all lurked here for a while before posting, good to see another milanista come out.

Ricardo Oliveria is no were near where Pato can be, Pato is a striker first of all so why the hell would he replace Kaka and how?

I can’t see how you can be angry at having such an amazing prospect on your team as Pato, being a Roma fan i would take him with open arms and play him the first minute he could set foot on a pitch! I am sure he is going to be amazing, maybe not at first because of all the preassure and hype but he will turn out to be amazing, that kid has mad skills!
