Friday Milan Musings, Pressing onto Parma

By: Gianfranco | February 15th, 2008

A dark cloud has been hanging over the San Siro since the career threatening injury to Ronaldo on Wednesday evening. I have long since grieved, and though I feel terrible and wish R99 the best, I must say that the Rossoneri have to get their acts in gear and continue on in their season. The Milan brass have done their due diligence and offered mountains of support for the fallen Milanista, but for the good of the squad it is important that everyone moves on. ( I have to say I am OK with Milan’s decision to stand behind Ronaldo during a very difficult time, and we all know how much of a family Milan can be, but there has to be a time that the line gets drawn. I am not saying to terminate his contract instantly and leave him for the vultures, but I am a bit concerned that the Milan roster will be home to 4-5 aging Brazilians who are slowly become non-viable to the first team. A team is entitled so many players to the squad including both EU and non-EU and one has to ask the question, “When do we part ways with this Brazilian faction for the good of the squad? I am by no means trying to be harsh or inconsiderate but only raising a point that should be in more heads than just mine.)

Back to business, Saturday, the dreaded game before the Champions League, pits the Rossoneri against relegation potential Parma. It seems like yesterday that Parma were boasting some of the strongest sides in Serie A with the likes of Dino Baggio all the way to Adriano. Lately for some reason, the team has just plain sucked, and it is not for lack of talent. If a team ever needed a coaching change, these are your boys; this team is a sleeping giant with tons of talent. No team has played Inter harder this season than they did, and no team deserved three points against Inter more than they did, and as they toil toward the bottom of the table, it is only a matter of time before they get the ball rolling like they did last year and rattle of a string of wins to assure salvation. My fear is that they kick start this process on Saturday. Milan is coming off a downer on Wednesday and really need to bounce back if they want any hope of momentum and three very key points. As of today they sit one point behind the Viola in fourth place and if the stars align could be sitting in fourth place by the end of the weekend, but when have any stars aligned this season for Milan?

I expect a weakened side to assure good strong team for the Arsenal match, I will have a full preview on Tuesday morning. I expect two strikers, Pippo and Gila maybe, or even Paloschi, I also expect a patch work midfield with the potential for Pirlo rest. Another run for Gourcuff would not trouble me all that much, but his useless factor is rising in my eyes. Defensively the entire lot of fullbacks has been leaky at times, especially with poor clearances. I wish Carletto would choose a few pairings so that there is a chemistry, and also sufficient rest when necessary.

As always use this space to discuss the Parma-Milan fixture, big plans for Maldini Monday this, week and how can we forget ARSENAL!!! This is one of the most packed Milan weeks I have blogged, and I am losing my mind from nervousness, somebody get me a scotch.

Some highlights from last year’s match…

So right about that…I just can’t believe we were given false hope…I also want to know what in freaking hell was going through stupid freaking carlettos head by first playing alla christmas tree and second not putting in paloschi or someone that can score?!?! I’m done…I think I’m going to convert to being a palermo fan..but I think I would become to depressed down there because they rarely win too.

Another 2 points we let go from right under our hands. We are so inconsistent, probably the most inconsistent team in the world. The only good outcome from this game, is that we know Kaka in 110% fit for Arsenal. and i believe Pippo must play as well, after all he is “Pippo CL God”. I dont know what to say, one day its our worst season in 20 years, the next day we win the Champions League, the next we’re even worse than last season, but we win the Club World Cup. There is no rational explanation, we play good against good teams and we struggle against mediocre or bad team. Sadly if management doesnt make some changes, the fans will take it in their own hands and we all know it wont be a good thing.

ARE THEY MOTHER FREAKING SERIOUS?!?!?! WHAT THE HELL MAN!!!! NOOO!!!

    Ron ‘offered contract renewal’

Ronaldo’s agent has thanked Milan for offering a contract renewal days after a career-threatening injury.

Even the surgeons who operated on the snapped tendon in his left knee cannot say if the striker will ever play again, but his representative is hopeful.

“Ronaldo is a warrior who has fought and won so many battles in his lifetime,” said Fabiano Farah.

“He is the type of person who goes all the way in his challenges and I think he is ready for this latest fight.”

There had been talk of Ronnie’s contract before the horrific injury in the 1-1 draw with Livorno on Wednesday.

One would’ve thought the setback – which at the very least will keep the 31-year-old out for nine months – would preclude any paperwork, but the agent revealed that is not the case.

“Every indication suggests the Rossoneri are interested in renewing his contract and Vice-President Adriano Galliani has already expressed this intention.

“Ronaldo wants to get back to playing football, but his primary objective right now is to be healthy and go through a successful rehabilitation process.”

A contract renewal could be an important motivating factor, as even surgeon Eric Rolland warned today that the psychological aspect is crucial in coming back from such a serious injury.Ron ‘offered contract renewal’

Honestly, it all depends on the contract type and clauses attached to it. If he’s gonna be sucking big money from us, then thats another issue, he’s now making $20,700,000 plus endorsements. I think its a class act from Milan.

    BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need to renovate our team. From a retirement home to a…..NOT A RETIREMENT HOME!! if we do sign R99, we better get many other players as well, or the big guys up there will be getting more than just a bullet in the mail.

Dida takes it to a whole new level. Apparently, Dida was stretched out of todays game. wait, he did not play! yes, he didnt play, but this time he was stretched off right from the bench. Talk about crying for attention, whats next!!!

For the last couple of hours i was suppose to be studying for my midterm tomorrow, but im too sick and cant think straight at all. All i did instead of doodling, i just wrote milan related stuff. made every possible formation we have, added new players, took players out etc. and also made many calculation between this milan and last years milan and back 4-5 years. basically its all useless but im just so pissed and cant seem to figure out why the hell are we playing like this. and the only conclusion, and worst possible conclusion, i came up with, is we lack heart. last thing id want to say or even admit and i hope im wrong, is our players arent giving it all they got. but in the CL we play with our heart and soul and look what did we achieve. but in serie a the complete opposite. this could be just the fever talking, but im getting so depressed, not even pissed anymore.

something else i figured out, which broke my heart.

5 Stages of Grief – Scudetto

1- Denial. Inter wont win the scudetto.
2- Anger. Inter dont Fucking deserve it, all the referee’s are Fucking helping them win.
3- Bargaining. Roma will catch up, nothing is impossible.
4- Depression. Fuck it, Life is a bitch.
5- Acceptance. Congrats to Inter on your first deserved Scudetto in 19 years.

    :( :(:(

Didn’t watch live as i was scouting out the Arsenal against Man Utd and watched the catch up on fsc later.

The good news is that Arsenal got smashed 0-4!
Like Carletto, Wenger tried to rest some of the more decisive players but was forced to play them when things were going stale (0-2 at this point) at least when Pirlo came on he made a difference! The same cant be said for Wengers substitutions.

Milan are def gona have their work cut out, Man Utd rampaged by:
    1. Keeping the ball
    2. Not losing possession every 2 mins
    3. By pressing the other side whenever they didnt have the ball.

Not gona go on about our chances against Arsenal as im sure Gianfranco will set up a prematch post but these are things that i feel Milan havent done well in their last couple of matches. Apart from Pirlo, the ball is passed around without any real purpose, Cafu & Emerson are just not cutting it anymore and are REALLY beginning to piss me off.

Tonight was similar to our last match, wereby we couldnt keep the game at a high tempo for both halves. At the moment we seem to coast the first half and try harder the 2nd or the other way round, this is usually peppered with Carlettos sometimes mind boggling substitutions.

Fetyani – your heartache is truly felt man, i know exactly how u feel, (check out my rants after our last match! im still fuming!)

For everytime I’ve heard someone say “Well a wins a win!”
I would like to reply, yes it is……….buuuuut arent we the current European AND World Club champs???
Dont we currently host the UEFA & FIFA World Player of the year?

We shouldnt be dropping these points!

I only know that we are better than this!

Brutal. Once again we look old and slow from front to back with no edge to our attack and with every attack from Parma (like Livorno, Napoli, Atalanta, etc.) leaving you praying for help from above(and Parma complied often with several ill advised shots from long range). The value and class of Pirlo was never more evident than in his absence in the first half of the match. Without Andrea we looked strictly mid-table (or lower considering where Parma reside); but all that being said I can still see us teaching Arsenal something about big-game matches. Nesta will negate Adebayor, Gattuso will grind Fabregas to dust, Pirlo will find holes in the Arsenal back four, Kaka will brush aside Flamini, et al., Seedorf will score an opportunistic goal and Pato will chase down a long ball for a 2-0 scoreline.

“but if we do recover Pato in time then it will have to be at the last minute” Barries head in shame for believing he would be back in time for arsenal…

Fetyani, deserved? No, Inter will not win a deserved medal until Ibra/Vieira are gone, and Juve has had some time to recover. (Take a guess of which team I’m a tifoso?) Fuck Inter.

I totally predicted a drawless game this weekend, and I’m not kidding. Without Ronaldo, Pato, it was bound to be back to the old Milan of this year who couldn’t put it in the net.

You guys really need to buy strikers this summer. Actually defenders too. And midfielders. God your team is old. But really, strikers. Who do you have?
    Ronaldo= done
    Pato= injured
Gilardino= Not good enough for Milan
Inzaghi= Older than Maldini, or at least he looks so on the field
Paloschi- Too young to be heavily relied on.
Not one guy you could confidently put in the Starting XI, except maybe Pato. Look at Juve- Del Piero, Trezeguet, Iaquinta, Palladino. 4 top class. Look at Inter- Crespo, Ibra, Suazo, Cruz. 4 top class. Milan- 1, maybe. Roma? 1, maybe. See why Juve/Inter are overperforming and Roma/Milan are under?
