Thursday Milan Musings

By: Gianfranco | August 22nd, 2007

-The Azzuri were handed their rears in a friendly against Hungary. I know it was just a friendly, I know the lineup was not all that strong, but like Gigi Buffon said, these games are important and the team has to but some heart into it. I was only able to watch the first half, and it was not all that bad, but apparently the second half is where everything unraveled. I have heard that Ambrosini was not so good, but Oddo was OK, at least one Massimo came to play. I will give a more detailed overview when I watch, but if this keeps up The Don will be out and France will smoke the remains.

-Hats off to Brocchi for saying why not me to the Rossoneri brass. Brocchi intends to wholeheartedly challenge Emerson for playing time. This is great, I am not a huge Brocchi fan, and I will never forget his mistake against Man U in the Champions League semi’s but I like player with hunger and intensity and if Emerson makes him have it than that’s great. On a side note, Emerson who has played for Juve and was courted by Inter has pledged all his love and affection to AC Milan. I wonder if he went to Inter, if he would have pledged his love to them as well.

-Ronaldo will be out of action for the first few weeks of the season due to a knee injury. That means that the two striker system will probably be out in favor of the x-mas tree. I personally prefer the 4-3-2-1 formation, and I am curious to see how Gila works out up there with Pippo waiting in the wings. Hope Ronaldo comes back strong and healthy though because we may very well need him with the lack of striker depth.

-Milan fans have been banned from Genoa during the season opener, and I hope it teaches everyone a lesson about hooliganism. Thanks to Martha for the quality coverage.

Dude, enjoy the first time Emerson decides he’s not so happy anymore, wants to move to Inter and mails in a sicknote to practice because he’s “depressed.”

    Fuckin scumbag.

Hey man, did you follow up on Coco? Check out my newest entry, looks like RBNY canned that idea 4 weeks ago.

I have to admit that since the Emerson deal I have had my head in the sand and have been boycotting everything Milan. This is the first I have heard of this and find it a bit dispicable, I mean Billy JUST retired. I have also heard some rumblings that it is the goal of the Milan Brass to field a Brazilian eleven at some point in the near future…

well, don’t know why that should ever be the goal, but considering we will try our darndest to get ronaldinho next year, and alex at the back, it might not be a brazilian 11, but pretty darn close. oh well, as long as it’s for the good of the team, i guess.

well personally i dont think it would be for the best of the team and to only have brazilians.. a lot in specific positions are obviously useful.. i mean i hate to generalize but brazilians wing-backs are usually really good and italy’s best wing backs are zambrotta and oddo imo, and we have one of them and tried to get the other and failed.. but like i said for some positions it makes sense, but its like they pretend that there are no talented players from other countries… i mean i would not say no to dinho, but because he is dinho not because he is brazilian…

anyway many of our brazilian players will end up retiring in the next year or so.. im really not that worried about it… but giving him no. 5 really pisses me of.. we should have retired that jersey for costacurta… sometimes i feel milan didnt give him the kind of respect maldini..

nah, i didn’t mean the whole 11, that comment was more for if they got alex and dinho. it is just something that as a milan fan you got to accept. usually they get the best available, but sometimes, every now and then, the brazilian love gets out of control and we pull an oliveira. got to take the good with the bad I guess.

i don’t agree that billy’s shirt should be retired. he was definitely loyal to the rossoneri shirt but by no means was he on the maldini-baresi level. it still looks pretty harsh if they give his number away already…

Billy was a great player who gave his all for Milan, retiring a number at San Si rois truly an honor that has at this time only been bestowed to Franco Baresi, and subsequently to Maldini. The only other player who may even have a chance is Gattuso, but I would personally say no becuase he was not raised in the Milan organization. The way things are going they will retire Kaka’s number before he retires…giving the five to Emerson is just plain disrepectful. Sometimes I just do not know what the team is thinking.
