Red, Black, and Blue…a very abysmal Blue…

By: Gianfranco | June 22nd, 2009

I didn’t even want to acknowledge the current Azzurri setup or their run in the Confederations Cup, frankly I approached these games as a USMNT fan and at this point I am pleasantly surprised. But reading blogs, comments, and articles today has made it impossible to remain silent on the issue.

First and foremost I will say this outright, I don’t like Lippi, I never have and I never will. Juventus fans defend him and that is OK, he is their Cappello and I respect that but as a tactician he has always been a bit behind in my book. He has always had good teams, and in the case of WC 06 he was playing with a passionate team who were very willing to work for him and with him, again not saying he is a bad coach, but he is not a revolutionary tactician, and he was lucky to get what he got out of those boys with many of them being consistently average players before the cup.

Regarding those boys, they were a great team in 2006, World Class in fact, but what happens when a World Class team is still kicking around in 2009? They are three years older, three years slower, and plainly figured out by just about everyone. We all know very well with our beloved Milan that a team that does not adapt and move forward is always stuck standing still, and now Italy is in the same boat. Sure Lippi subs in the occasional GRossi, Pepe, or Montolivo, but these subs are done within the structure of the old guard, that is just plain old. Now remember as a Milan fan I say this with full knowledge that a new Azzurri squad would mean ZERO Milan players. Am I happy about that fact? No not at all, Inter will surely have more, but for the good of the team it is time to be done!

Formation wise, many of you here and across the Offside crucified the Don for his 4-3-3, not a sole has done the same for Lippi, HYPOCRITES. Not to mention no one noticed that he took arguably the same set of players as the Don, save a few here and there, HYPOCRITES. Anyone can see that Italy are loaded with creative around the box type strikers like a GRossi, and midfield hardmen like Palombo, why not employ Spalletti’s 4-2-3-1?? Now if you read this blog you know how hard it is for me to credit those Roma tossers, but again this is for the good of the team and to fit the personnel. We as club fans need cohesion, and frankly, a new boss. But we all know Lippi won’t use it, it isn’t his formation, he won’t employ anything that is prevalent in Serie A, because he is stubborn, sure a World Champ, but a stubborn bastard to boot.

Finally I am going to end with a lambasting of players that may cause my lambasting in return, but the following players were awful in this tournament: DDR, Toni, Camo, Dossena, Captain Canna, Montolivo, Pepe, and FabQuags…Rino was recovering and Pirlo was inconsistent, his best game against a ten men USA, but they too are not far from this shit list. Now Roma fans will cry, and some Fiorentina fans who still love Luca and think Montolivo is producing will bitch as well, but go back and look at those games and then we can discuss. DDR was horrific in all three games, his goal was pure luck, and his play was phantasmal. Montolivo was much the same, but for me Toni takes the cakes as the World’s worse fall from grace, save Ronaldinho. He is finished!! If he is going to play in WC10 so are the Azzurri…

Myu – seemingly ditching Kaka has made EVERYONE want to come to Milan! Go figure.

Half of Brazil, Ade, Cesc, who else?

Everyone is suddenly dreaming of playing for Milan. Fabregas would have been a perfect guy to replace I-am-an-Inter-spy Dorf,in Carlo’s formation behind Kaka. He still can play in our 3 man midfield, and is a a really good player, but Milan cant spend so much on him.
Dzeko wants to be in Milan for preseason training. A striker and a CB are top priority, then if we have money(we wont)we can look at other players.

Because no one else will take him. On the other side of town, we are having much the same problem with Vieira.

Ro – completely with u on aquafresca – even on the goal that he scored, i had my fingers crossed and was willing the ball to go in – he looked like he would screw that one up as well – really does remind me of toni

Good read. Serie A used to sell its tv rights individually for a combined fee of 800m pounds a year. From 2010 onwards it will sell the tv rights collectively for a fee of 1000m pounds a year. Even though teams like Milan,Inter or Juve will earn less this way,the rest of the league will benefit a lot this way. And bigger teams will be forced to improve revenue, and will look to build new stadiums for extra revenue. Good news. Serie A is on the rise again. We might have to lose a few top players now,but when some of these EPL clubs go bankrupt and lose their shine,we will benefit.

a couple of observations on today’s debacle. spain kicked ass except for finishing. ramos and torres were surprisingly bad. usa certainly has used up its luck in this tournament. now i can only hope that brazil gets through and does what it should do in the final.

oh, and by the way, donovan is a bitch…

    2. buy dzeko
    3. sell ronaldinho, buy g. rossi
    4. play good football for a change
    5. ???
    6. profit!

fester and silvio are ridiculous. the club has 80 million from selling kaka and gourcuff. if they buy dzeko (or adebayor, whatever) that leaves us with about 50 million.

on the other side, players like rossi, fabregas and nilmar are saying they’d be interested in playing for milan. am I the only one who thinks not buying at least one of them is borderline retarded? and if we sell pirlo but not buy fabregas you can scratch the word borderline from the last sentence:/

If Italy had played the way the USA did, they would have been lambasted from every corner of the globe. The USA scored sucker-punch goals and made the most of few chances. Players like Donovan and Dempsey embellished and flopped around. The US played defensive football, parking the bus in front of goal. And yet, everyone is going crazy saying they played great.

Maybe now, the American/English pundits will see the value in playing a compact game and fighting for a result. And when Italy does so in the future, they will keep their insults to a minimum.

Jovan, what about fabiano. I hope your not indicating that we should sign him, coz the guy is nearly 29 and milan are trying to get younger, not the best of signings. Dont get me wrong i know the guy is explosive at times, but being 29 and playing for milan wont the team.

milan 4 life, I referred to fabiano as my 4th option should we fail to sign dzeko, adebayor or nilmar. you are completely right though, I have to admit I thought he was 27 at most.
