Milan fell to a last minute goal against Fiorentina and despite taking the lead, the match ends 2-1 at the San Siro in Milan. Allegri: "We have to react with personlaity because nothing is lost".
MILAN - Here's what players and staff had to say after Milan-Fiorentina this afternoon at the San Siro stadium:
MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI
"We’ll have to react with the personality of a great team because nothing is lost. If Juventus still had the chance to win the league when they were 2 points off the top, then we’ll still have the chance to win if they go a point clear by winning against Palermo. It was a difficult game because of fatigue, the state of the pitch and because Fiorentina did well. It’s the first time we’ve played in the afternoon for a long time, it was quite hot today as well and the ball on the pitch was like a boulder and we should have been more awake for the second goal. We might have some players back against Chievo. We’re capable of getting the win there and we can play for the title right until the end. It was a strange game with dangers around every corner. Maxi Lopez did well, I think it was a good experiment, but it’s a shame about the result.”
IGNAZIO ABATE
"It was an unexpected defeat. We have to try and not make any mistakes in these last games. It’s a stop that we hope will happen to Juventus as well, but it shouldn’t have happened with us. It was a strange game and it wasn’t the usual Milan. It’s been a month that we’ve been playing every three days and I don’t want to make excuses but physically we’re not in great shape. We’ll have to grit out teeth now and push on. The suspensions and injuries take their toll and there won’t be very many available for selection against Chievo but we’ll have to fight all the same. It’s a delicate moment physically as we’re not ourselves. The team didn’t manage to press forward and we’re not playing as well as we can. But we’re not going to cry about it. There are a lot of games left and things will turn our way again."
DANIELE BONERA
"We expected a different result and all in all things looked to be going well. We had everything we needed to make the game end very differently. But good for them that they kept on running for the whole game, we should have closed things off earlier. I don’t know if it’s fatigue, they are in good shape. Now we’ll look forward as we don’t even have the time to think about what was. Having games so close to each other hasn’t helped. Now we have to get back some energy, we have a few players suspended against Chievo, including myself. Nothing is lost and we can’t afford to look back. It’s better to be on top of the battle, but it is what it is. They could easily have a bad day as well.”
MAXI LOPEZ
"The next game is in 72 hours and we have to be ready for that match in Verona. We can’t even give an inch otherwise things will get really difficult. We can turn this result around in the next game. We just need to focus on Chievo and correct the errors that happened here to day. It’s a difficult moment, but we’ll get out of it. When I hit the post a goal then could have changed the game but I was unlucky. I’ll just keep on trying to make the most of the chances that I get and try to help the rest of my team mates like Ibra and Nocerino. The penalty? Nastasic grabbed my shirt and I lost my balance, end of story. It’s never easy to play every three days but we played most of the football and they made the most of the only chances that they had. It happens sometimes and we have to shake it off quick. The group is strong and we have a lot of players who can show what they’re worth Chievo in Verona."
MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI (Press Conference)
"We came out in the second half and we conceded a goal after a minute. No on was expecting that. We were a little bit naïve even for the second goal which came from a kick out from the keeper. Van Bommel is getting better and we hope to have Boateng back available as we have three suspensions. We hope to get as many players back as possible, we’ll see between tomorrow and Monday. A draw would have given us an extra point but seeing as the head to heads are in their favor. We’ve spoken too much about the calendar; we need to play match by match. We’ll see in mid May who’s ahead and who deserves to win. A lot of people wanted us to lose today and we did but now we have to think about Tuesday with the knowledge that nothing has been lost. It’s all up for grabs with seven games left. The defeat was unexpected but the team did what they could even though they didn’t play that well. We pinned them back in their area and today we couldn’t do any more than that. Now we need to have the personality to come back from this loss. We went down against a good Fiorentina side and so we’ll look to Tuesday knowing that nothing is lost. The pitch was really bad and the ball was bouncing everywhere. Cassano did good things, the changes were the only ones I could make. No regrets. I never underestimated Fiorentina, they have technically good players. We did what we could but the pitch made things very difficult. Sometimes you have to win games playing badly and today could be one of those games. The fans are always behind us, unfortunately, just like last year, after the Champions League elimination, we got off on the wrong foot in the league. I don’t feel that my job is at risk. The club will make their evaluations at the end of the season. Seedorf and Antonini should be available for Tuesday.”
